Margaret Ann Turnage Candy
April 26, 1951 - July 31, 2012

Margaret 'Margo' Ann Turnage Candy, 61, of Hot Springs, passed away July 31, 2012 after a long battle with cancer.

She was born in Stillwater, TX, April 26, 1951.

She was married to Bob Candy, August 2, 1992.

They shared a home on Lake Hamilton where the two of them enjoyed watching sunsets from the deck and boat rides with family.

Friends and family were Margaret’s passion.

She enjoyed reading and dancing.

She always looked forward to lunches with the 'lake girls' and all her grandchildren piling up around her to have 'movie marathons.'

She is survived by her husband, four children: Tami Dawn Quilici and husband Ken of Woodland, California, Ginger Cherre’e Ann Roberson and husband Michael of Searcy, Arkansas, Michael David King and wife Amanda of McRae, Arkansas, and Kyle Robert Candy and wife Lindsey of Kansas City, Missouri.

Margaret was the proud Nanny of ten grandchildren: Seth Pinkerton and wife Tiffany, Alexzander Roberson, Hunter Quilici, Hailee Quilici, Doug Griggs, Ian King, Landon King, Jordan King, Emilee Roberson, and Jackson Candy; and one great grandchild: Kash Pinkerton.

She is also survived by her aunts: Mable Grace Ramsey and Ida Margaret Turnage, and her brother: Sam Turnage.

Margaret was preceded by her brother: Bob Turnage and son: Jimmy David King.

There will be a public viewing service Friday, August 3, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home located at 155 Section Line Rd., Hot Springs, AR and the Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 1:00 PM.

Flowers can be sent in her name to Caruth-Hale Funeral Home.

Sarah Mae Harrison
November 9, 1927 - August 1, 2012

Sarah Mae Harrison, 84, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, died Wednesday, August 1, 2012.

She was born November 9, 1927 in Hot Springs, Arkansas to the late Charlie Jackson and Tennie Mae (Collum) Lisenby.

She was a former member of the Extension Homemaker’s Club.

Sarah is preceded in death by her husband, James Andrews; daughter Emma Lois Milholen, grandchild Eston Milholen, Jr., and great-great-grandchild Annabelle Standridge; and sister Martha Standridge.

She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth Standridge of Hot Springs; sisters - Johnnie Peeples of Hot Springs, Charlene Monk of Hot Springs, Betty Middleton of Royal and Lettie Alma Gregory of Hot Springs; grandchildren Julia Rivera, James Standridge, Samuel Standridge, Penni Walker and Sarah Ostrem and twelve great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home.

A Celebration of her Life will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home.

Honorary pallbearers include James Standridge, Samuel Standridge, Louis Rivera, Paul Ostrem, James Ward III, and Joshua Standridge.

Linda Lou McCullar
November 18, 1933 - July 19, 2012

Linda Lou McCullar of Hot Springs Village went home to be with the Lord on July 19, 2012.

She was born November 18, 1933 in Durant, MS, to Foster Vernon and Luther Thomas McCullar.

Linda graduated from Durant High School and Millsaps College earning a BA degree in Elementary Education.

She continued her education at Mississippi State University (MSU) earning a Master of Education degree in Early Childhood Education and Ed. Specialist, Early Childhood Education.

Linda taught elementary school in Atlanta, GA, Vernal, UT, Holmes County, MS and Kosciusko, MS.

She had a private kindergarten in Denver, CO.

Continuing Education through MSU, she taught teacher recertification classes at various MSU campuses.

After retiring from teaching, she opened Linda McCullar’s Beautiful Brides Bridal Shop in Kosciusko, MS.

She later closed the Bridal Shop and moved to Hot Springs Village.

Linda was a faithful and active member of Barcelona Road Baptist Church, Arkansa Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, Civil War Roundtable and AAUW.

She is survived by three children and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 25th 6:15 p.m. at Barcelona Road Baptist Church with Rev. Elton Gray and Dr. Bruce Swihart officiating.

Faydra J. Mackey
October 2, 1927 - July 23, 2012

Faydra Mackey, 84, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord Monday, July 23, 2012.

She was born October 2, 1927 in Pike County, Arkansas to the late Leland and Callie A. (Trout) Boyd.

Faydra loved her Lord, was continually reading books about her Savior and was a long time member of Hot Springs Baptist Church.

Her favorite movie was 'Sound of Music' and she might be found at 2:00 or 3:00 a.m. watching it or a tennis tournament on television.

She was a woman of sound and firm decisions with a contagious laugh; she could make a plan and execute it with love and affection.

Faydra is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Charles Mackey.

She is survived by her sons - Danny Mackey (Kathi) and John Mackey both of Hot Springs; grandchildren Jeremy Mackey (Kristal) of Hot Springs, Alyssa Gibson (Codi Hood) of Bismarck, and Jordan Watts of Hot Springs; and great-grandchildren Jacob Houston Mackey, Aiden Lee Gibson and Noah Drake Hood.

Visitation will be from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home.

Service will be at 9:00 a.m. Thursday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Pounders officiating.

Louise Tillery Ward
September 19, 1928 - July 22, 2012

With her family by her side, Louise (Tillery) Ward, 83, of Mt. Pine, went to be with the Lord on July 22, 2012.

She was born September 19, 1928 at Mt. Valley to Raymond and Bertha Tillery.

Louise was a devoted Christian, loving mother to her family and loved by all who knew her.

She will be dearly missed by everyone.

She is predeceased by her parents, husband, Carl Ward, sister, Thelma Tillery, daughter, Sharon Brown and four infant sons.

Survivors include her four daughters and sons-in-law: Wilma and Benny Terry, of Hot Springs; Patsy and James Murders, of Mt. Pine; Phyllis and Ricky LeCompt, of Mt. Pine; Marsha and Jimmy Weldon, of Greenbrier; son-in-law, Lonnie Brown; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren, other family members and a host of friends.

Visitation will be 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday, July 26, 2012 at the funeral home with Brother W.M. Clark officiating.

Burial will follow at Robbins cemetery, Mt. Pine.

Pallbearers are grandsons: Tim Brown, Mike Brown, Chris LeCompt, Cory LeCompt, Larkin Petty and Kyle Petty.

Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Martin Koehn, her wonderful friend, Shirley Miller, Hospice of Central Arkansas and Chaplin Roger Reid.

The family will be at 452 Old Dove Rd., Mt. Pine.

Doris Gibbs Elam
July 29, 1924 - July 31, 2012

Doris 'Perk' Gibbs Elam, 88, of Hot Springs, passed away July 31, 2012 surrounded by her family.

Born July 29, 1924 in Hot Springs, Arkansas, she was the daughter of Clara and Ira R. Gibbs.

An active member of First Presbyterian Church for most of her life, 'Perk' loved her circle, working the Bargain Box, and served as a church deacon.

A charter member of Forum Club, she loved playing bridge, telling and hearing funny jokes.

She retired from Worthen Bank where she worked in the installment loan department and was a branch assistant manager.

She loved her family and possessed a wonderful sense of humor.

Doris was preceded in death by the love of her life, husband Martin H. Elam, her parents, Clara and Ira Gibbs, brothers, John Gibbs, Jimmy Gibbs, Fred Gibbs, Bill Gibbs and sisters, Sally Ramoly, Idell Brooks and Janece Watts.

She is survived by two daughters, Marty Elam Walker, of Hot Springs and Janis Elam Dixon, of Benton; one sister, Nadine Lotz, of Hot Springs; seven married grandchildren, Traci (Michael) Hogue, of Little Rock; Chris (Laura) Walker, of Bryant; Jayme (Jennifer) Dixon, Danny (Mia) Dixon, Aaron(Kelly) Dixon, Dr. Jared (Emberlee) Dixon and Joseph (Melanie) Dixon, all of Benton; and 22 great-grandchildren as well as dozens of nieces and nephews who called her 'Aunt Perkie'.

The family expresses its deepest gratitude to Lakewood Nursing Home, where she resided for the last 15 years of her life, and its outstanding staff, as well as to Arkansas Hospice for their sensitive and caring efforts on Doris' behalf.

Pallbearers will be her six grandsons, Jayme, Danny, Aaron, Jared and Joseph Dixon and Chris Walker.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to First Presbyterian Church, 213 Whittington Avenue, Hot Springs, Arkansas, 71901 or to Arkansas Hospice, 628 Malvern Avenue, Hot Springs, Arkansas, 71901.

Visitation will be 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday, August 3, 2012 at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 4, 2012 at the funeral home with Rev. Lacy Sellers officiating.

Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens cemetery, Hot Springs.

JANICE ESTELLE VANARSDALL
April 15, 1947 - August 17, 2012

Janice Estelle Hartin VanArsdall, resident of Hot Springs Village, died August 17, 2012.

She was born April 15, 1947 in Battle Creek, Michigan to the late M/Sgt. William R. Hartin and late Velma Jac Reed Hartin.

She lived on various Army bases in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, but considered the western suburbs of Westmont and Downers Grove, Illinois her hometowns.

She married Jack D. VanArsdall on August 31, 1968 in Westmont, Illinois.

They lived all over the U.S. until retiring to Hot Springs Village in October of 2001.

Janice was a retired dental nurse, having worked in that field more than 36 years.

She had an optimistic get it done attitude.

Her passion was to live life to the fullest and share her love with family and friends.

An avid reader, Janice also enjoyed bowling; but devoted most of her leisure time to Community Theater.

She has appeared in numerous productions in Indiana, Texas and as a Village Player.

Accomplished in most areas of theater she was a director, stage manager, worked props, make-up, developed art work, designed and decorated sets, designed and ran lights and sound and was a playwright, as well.

A past Vice President of the Hot Springs Village Players and had served that organization as Newsletter Editor, Play Reading Committee Chair, Traveling Tech and Librarian.

She developed the beloved Woodie Award - a tongue-in-cheek award given to Players members for achievement in various areas of production.

It is named for the Woodlands Auditorium where most of the Players productions are held.

Janice is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Jack D. VanArsdall; daughter Kendra VanArsdall Jackson (Donald) of Colorado; son Kyle VanArsdall (Crystal) of Florida and three grandchildren: Natalie and Jarren of Colorado and Owen of Florida.

Other survivors are sisters Judy Muzzey of Missouri and Joanne Douglas of Texas and two brothers, William R. Hartin of Pennslvania and Robert F. Hartin, of Wisconsin.

A memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Caruth Village Funeral Home.
