Una "Lee" Shelton
July 10, 1928 - December 27, 2014
Rogers, Arkansas
Una Lee Shelton, 86, of Rogers, Arkansas passed away Saturday,
December 27, 2014 at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale, Arkansas.

Lee was born July 10, 1928 to Docia Isabelle and Joseph Franklin
Colson, the youngest of twelve children. She grew up in Northeast
Louisiana, near the town of Oak Ridge. The family home was known as
'Trail’s End' as the road ended right at the edge of the Boeuf River, and
Lee fondly recalled playing there with her cousins and friends. She
finished high school at the age of sixteen and then started college at
Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana. Lee graduated in three
years and took a job teaching in Mer Rouge, Louisiana. While there, she
helped out as the girls’ assistant basketball coach, and in so doing she met
her future husband, Charles Shelton, who was the older brother of one of
the players.

Lee and Charles were married in 1949 and had a daughter, Margaret.
Soon after, they moved to Pine Bluff, Arkansas where Charles worked for
the Missouri Pacific Railroad and Lee taught 6th grade in the Pine Bluff
Public School District. Their second child, John, was born in Pine Bluff.
In 1972, Charles passed away after battling cancer, and Lee eventually
moved to Rogers, Arkansas in 1987 to be closer to her grandchildren. In
Rogers, she taught 4th grade at Northside Elementary and Reagan
Elementary until her retirement in 1995.

Throughout her teaching career, she was active in the Delta Kappa
Gamma International Society and was a 50-year member. She served as
the President, Vice President, and Treasurer for the Rogers chapter, and
then as the President of the state chapter for Arkansas. In 2002, she
received the Kappa State Achievement Award. Lee enjoyed needlepoint,
gardening, traveling, and reading. One of her greatest joys was attending
her granddaughter’s dance recitals, cross country and track meets, and
listening to her grandson play the piano and trombone. She also loved
spending time with her grandpuppy, Lil’ Buddy. She was active in her
church for as many years as she was able.

Una is survived by one son, John Shelton of Sherwood, Ark; one daughter,
Margaret Kelly and husband, Bob of Rogers, Ark and two grandchildren,
Caitlin Kelly of Atlanta, GA and James C. Kelly of Champaign, IL.
