Maxine Tucker
Maxine Tucker, 63, of Mansfield, Ark, died Friday, March 28, 2003, in a Fort Smith hospital. She was a homemaker, attended God's Hope Christian Church in Mansfield, and was a follower of Jesus Christ.
She is survived by her husband, David Tucker of the home; one daughter, Susan Kelley and husband Skip of Greenwood; lifelong friends; Namon and Mary Nelson of Barber, Ark. and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were March 31, 2003 at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial at Hartford Memorial Park under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
Morita Anne Hunter
Morita Anne Hunter, 77, of Hartford, Ark., died Sunday, May 18, 2003 at Keota, Oklahoma. She was a retired bookeeper and homemaker, and was a member of the Hartford First Baptist Church and the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 292 in Hartford.
Funeral was held Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at the Hartford First Baptist Church with burial at Hartford Memorial Park under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Hartford.
Survivors include her husband, David Hunter, Sr. f the home; two sons, David Hunter, Jr. and wife Deveda of Somerville, Alabama, and Michael Hunter, Sr. and wife Annette of Hot Springs, Ark; one daughter, Darlene Nall and husband Jack of Tulsa, Okla; one sister, Lolita Homey of Hawaii; five grandchildren, Michael Hunter II, Christina Dunn both of Hartford, Jason Nall of San Diego, Calif., Danielle Hunter and Brionna Hunter both of Somerville, Ala.; one great granddaughter, Victoria Hunter of Hartford, Ark.
F. Jane Jones
F. Jane Jones, 62, of Fort Smith, Ark., died May 19, 2003 in Fort Smith, after a long fight with cancer. She was born July 15, 1940 at Spiro, Okla. to Bill and Della (Napier) Carnell. She was retired from Whirlpool of almost 20 years and of the Freewill Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and Henry Cornall.
She is survived by one daughter, Deborah Housewirth and husband Scott of Memphis, Tenn.; one son Jimmy Jones and wife Melissa of Greenwood, Ark.; four sisters Bernice Cornell and Betty Sapp of Fort Smith, Ark., Lillian Reed of Glendale, Ariz., and Rosemary Blaylock of Spiro, Okla.; four brothers James Cornell of Mo., Johnny and Donnie Joe Cornell of Spiro, Okla. and Dale Cornell of Quinton, Okla.; six grandchildren Landon Jones, Brandon Jones, Kayleigh Evans, Kennan C. Hall, Jade Housewirth and Kuper Jones.
Funeral services were held Thursday, May 22, 2003 at the Mallory Chapel with Rev. Herbert Rogers officiating. Burial followed in Spiro City cemetery under the direction of the Mallory Funeral Home of Spiro.
LaVerda Reeves
LaVerda Reeves, 77, of Greenwood, Ark., died Wednesday, May 21, 2003 in her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Nelson Reeves. She and her husband Glenn were appointed as missionaries in 1957 serving in Nigeria, West Africa, for fifteen years. Following that they accepted a pastorate in Enid, Okla., serving at Central Assembly of God Church for seventeen years. Shortly after her husband's death she relocated to Greenwood, Ark. where se was a member of the First Assembly of God Church.
She is survived by one son, Timothy Reeves of Port Isabel, Texas; two daughters Verletta Russell of Sapulpa, Okla., and Verona Drenckpohl of Greenwood, Ark.; one brother, Wilbur Schneider of Corbett Creek, Oregon; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 23, 2003 at the First Assembly of God Church in Greenwood with interment service and burial Saturday, May 24, 2003 at Memorial Park cemetery in Enid, Okla. under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home.

Koleen Kate-Lynn Riley
Koleen Kate-Lynn Riley, four months old, of Bonanza, Ark., died Saturday, May 17, 2003 in a Fort Smith Hospital.
She is survived by her mother Kelly Riley of Bonanza, Ark. and step-father Charles Thompson of Greenwood; maternal grandparents Brenda and Chuck Clark of Bonanza, Ark.; maternal great grandparents Reva and Ralph Gage of El Dorado, Ark.; Paternal step-great grandparents Patsy and Roy Thompson of Greenwood, Ark.; two sisters, Marie Riley and Haley James, both of Bonanza, Ark.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 23, 2003 at Jenny Lind First Baptist Church, Jenny Lind, Ark., with burial at Douglass cemetery in Jenny Lind, Ark. under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
Pallbearers were James Harding, Don Melby, Dale Barr and Robert Thompson.
Paul George Beshears
Paul George Beshears, 92, of Mansfield, Ark. died July 23, 2003 in a Fort Smith hospital. He was a retired welder, having worked in a California shipyard. He also served in World War II. He was a member of the California Longshoreman's Union and a member of the Mansfield Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Edwards Beshears; two sisters, Bernice Beshears and Eva Ballard; two brothers, Bruce and Gilbert Beshears; and his parents, George and Fannie Beshears. Survivors include one sister, Beatrice Canady of Fort Smith and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service were July 26, 2003, at the Mansfield Church of Christ with burial at Bloodsworth cemetery near Elm Park, under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Mansfield.
Pallbearers include Jack Parish, Howard Brownfield, Bob Armistead, Dennis Brownfield and Tim Spain.
Mrs. Mildred Marie (Starr) Pinkerton
Mrs. Mildred Marie (Starr) Pinkerton, 86, widow of the late Sam Pinkerton, died at 6:05 a.m. on Friday, July 25, 2003, at the Jane Phillips Memorial Medical Center in Bartlesville, Okla.
Funeral services for Mrs. Pinkerton were held July 29, 2003, at the graveside, Steep Hill cemetery in Wardrop, Ark. near Fort Smith, Ark. Rev. Kenton White will be the officiate. Graveside committal prayers and interment will be directed in the Steep Hill cemetery, Fort Smith, Ark. by The Arnold Moore Funeral Service.

A native of Oklahoma, Mildred Marie Starr was born at Pocola. She was reared and received her education in the White Bluff Schools, between Bonanza and Fort Smith, Ark. She and Sam Pinkerton were married
on May 19, 1934 in Fort Smith, Ark. and they made their first home in Fort Smith. They moved to Bartlesville in 1948 when he was employed by National Zinc in February of 1948. Mrs. Pinkerton was employed for a short while by the Washington County Memorial Hospital. Mr. Pinkerton was retired in 1974 and in 1975, Mr. and Mrs. Pinkerton moved to Pocola, Okla. where they owned and operated an antique shop. They moved to Ochelata, Okla. in 1980 to live in retirement. Mrs. Pinkerton preceded her in death on February 5, 1995 and since that time, Mrs. Pinkerton has remained here living in retirement.
Mrs. Pinkerton was a member of the Ochelata, First Baptist Church.
Surviving are one son, Jerry Donald Pinkerton and his wife Jennie, of rural Ochelata, Okla.; three daughters, Mrs. Lois June Padgett of Sedan, Kans., Mrs. Doris J. Young McCormick and her husband, Frank of Ochelata, Okla., and Mrs. Sharon M. Coffman and her husband, Edward "Ed" of Sallisaw, Okla.; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Richard Starr and wife Ayako Su of Navarrel, Fla. and Jerold Starr and his wife, Wanda of Symara Beach, Fla. and two sisters, Mrs. Alice Jean May of Lexington, N.C. and Jessie Mae Ross of Irving, Texas. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, husband and two sisters, Lillian Whitson and Rose Ann Starr.
Catherine Lee Plunkett
Catherine Lee Plunkett, 78, of Greenwood, Ark. died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, in her home. She was a nurse for Dr. Charles Bailey for many years, a member of the Greenwood First Baptist Church, and a founding member of the Harris-Hannah V.F.W. Post #6527 Ladies Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband Duane Plunkett, parents, Myrl and Ethel Johnson, and a sister, Norma Gallander.
Funeral services were July 25, 2003 at the Greenwood First Baptist Church with burial at Liberty cemetery under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Jones and husband Phil of Greenwood and Judy Carolan and husband, Bob of Booneville; two sons, Tommy "Pete" Plunkett and wife Gina of Greenwood and Steve Plunkett of Fort Smith; one brother, H.L. "Bud" Johnson of Fort Smith; one sister, Delois "Bo" Stallings of Greenwood; eight grandchildren, Kevin and Angie Jones, Brad and Tamera Jones, Mike Morelock, Laura and David Bullington, Jennifer and Greg Weiser, Chris and Cary Plunkett, Jessica Plunkett and Chase Carolan; six great-grandchildren, Taylor Jones, Garrett Weiser, Grant Weiser, Gentry Jones, Raven Jones and Skyler Bullington and care givers, Emma Smith, Sylvia Risley and Hilda Rich.
Pallbearers will be Brad Jones, Kevin Jones, Chris Plunkett, Bill Plunkett, Ronnie Plunkett, Johnny Plunkett, Mark Stallings, Wayne Stallings, Mike Johnson and Bill Anderson. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Harris-Hannah V.F.W. Post #6527 Ladies Auxiliary and the Pat James Sunday School Class.

Billy Gene Cruse
Billy Gene Cruse, 75, of Greenwood, Ark. died Saturday, July 19, 2003, in his home. He was a retired building inspector for the city of Lomoc, Calif., a Veteran of the U.S. Army and the Korean War.
Survivors include one daughter, Karen Cruse of East Ellsworth, Wis.; three sons, Dale Cruse of San Diego, Calif., David Cruse of Ratcliff, Ark., and Daryl Cruse of Paris, Ark.; six grandchildren. Also survived by many friends at Peachtree Lane in Greenwood.
Memorial services were July 24, 2003, at the U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith, Ark. under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
William "Bill" Farr
William "Bill" Farr, 80, of Greenwood, Ark. died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was a self-employed mechanic, an Army veteran of World War II, a member of the Harris-Hannah V.F.W. Post #6527 and member of the Washburn United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ellen Farr of the home; one sister, Hazel Norried King of Greenwood, Ark.; one brother, John Farr, Jr. of Jackson, Miss. and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were July 26, 2003, at Dawson cemetery in Milltown, Ark. under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
Pallbearers were George Bell, Winston Nichols, Carroll Turner, Ronnie Seiter, Bill Barnes, Rob Eden, Dale Cochran and Ron Baker.
Arlie Lynn Reeves
Arlie Lynn Reeves, 49, of Hackett, Ark. died Friday, July 25, 2003, in a Tulsa, Okla. hospital. He was a self employed mechanic and a member of the Jenny Lind First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy of the home; two daughters, Lori Greer of Lavaca, Ark., Kelly Dawn Reeves of Lowell, Ark.; his mother, Irene LeRoy of Jenny Lind, Ark.; one brother, Kenneth Ray Reeves of Roland, Okla.

Eddie Best, 53, of Hackett, Ark. died Monday, July 21, 2003, in his home. He was a retired sheet metal worker.
Survivors include his mother and step-father, Reba and Olin Loux of Hackett, Ark.; one sister, Linda Ruth of VanWesterhuyzen of Calif.; four step-sisters, Betty Jane Crawford of Tulsa, Okla., Stacey Kaufman of Hackett, Ark., Sandra Crow and Debbie Madison of Fort Smith, Ark.; one brother, Rickey Best of Montgomery, Ala.

Josephine Newquest, 66, of Pocola, Okla. died Monday, July 28, 2003, in her home. She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Newquest, Sr.
Survivors include two sons, Jack Newquest, Jr. of Poteau, Okla., Ray Newquest of Pocola, Okla.; one sister, Dorothy Bryan of Arkoma, Okla.; two brothers, Harold Holt of Fresno, Calif., Clarence Holt of Midland, Ark.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at Mount Olive cemetery in Midland, Ark. under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.

Alberta Ubl, 79, of Greenwood, Ark. died Monday, July 28, 2003, in Fort Smith, Ark. She was a retired cosmetologist and a member of The Harris-Hannah VFW Post #6527 Ladies Auxiliary in Greenwood.
Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Hagans of Lumberton, N.C.; one son, Tommy Dorsey of Fort Smith, Ark.; four sisters, Helen Cates, Billie Cates, Earlene Gentile, and Pearl Gartrell all of Greenwood, Ark.; 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

C.H. "Cub" Gordon
C.H. "Cub" Gordon, 87, of Greenwood, Ark. died Tuesday, September 9, 2003, in Greenwood, Ark. He was a retired coal miner and Foreman for the Sebastian County Road Department, a member of Deacon of the Mount Zion Baptist Church. preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Gordon.
Funeral services were Friday, September 12, 2003, at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Greenwood, Ark. with burial at Dawson cemetery in Milltown, Ark. under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
Survivors include one daughter, JoAnn Bryan of Greenwood, Ark.; one son, Richard Gordon of Greenwood; two sisters, Virgie Sparks of Fort Smith, Ark., Sue Shockley of St. Louis, Mo.; one brother, Rev. Terrel Gordon of Farmington, Ark.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
