Dennis Wayne Huggins
Dennis Wayne Huggins, 50, of Muldrow, Okla. died Monday, September 8, 2003, in the VA Hospital in Fayetteville. He was born June 19, 1053 in Stillwater, Okla. He served in the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army at Fort Bragg, North Carolina and as a Green Beret. He was an active member of the Disabled American Veterans where he served as a Senior Vice-Commander. He was a Mason.
Graveside services were September 12, 2003, at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith, Ark. with full military honors under the direction of Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
Survivors include his daughters, Desiree Huggins and Delana Huggins of Roland, Okla.; one son, David Huggins of Greenwood, Ark.; his mother, Claudine Huggins of Fort Smith, Ark.; three sisters, Angela Davis and Des Moines of Iowa and Cheri Moore of Fort Smith; one brother, Michael Huggins of Fort Smith; one grandchild, Dylan Huggins of Greenwood.

Kyle Evan Smith
Kyle Evan Smith, infant son of Chad and Ginger Smith of Hackett, Ark. was born June 27, 2003, and went to rest with God Thursday, September 11, 2003.
Graveside service were September 15, 2003, at Old Union cemetery in Hackett under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
He is also survived by one brother, Ty Allen Smith of the home; three sisters, Elizabeth Smith, Amanda Davis, and Casandra Davis of the home; grandparents, Charles and Mary Smith of Hackett, Randy and Donna Smith of Cameron, Okla., and Tina Smith of Dibbie, Okla.; great-grandparents, Leta Mae Smith of Hackett, Janet Seamans of Greenwood, and Wilma and George Folsom of Oklahoma City, Okla.; God-grandparents, Roy Joe and Martha Moss of Greenwood; uncles, Brandon Smith, Luke Smith, Kevin Moss and Charles Phillips; aunts, Coralie Smith, Jessica Leonard, Ronda Christenberry and Christie Phillips; cousins, Corie Seabolt and Skyler Seabolt, and many other aunts and uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Ronnie Christenberry of Keota, Okla., and great-grandfathers, James T. Smith of Hackett, and Truman Seamans of Greenwood, and great-grandparents, Lena Faye and Lowell D. Smith.
Don Logan
Don Logan, 76, 0f Mansfield, Ark. died Wednesday, September 13, 2003, in Greenwood, Ark. He was a retired carpenter.
Graveside services were September 13, 2003, at Coop Prairie cemetery in Mansfield, Ark. under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie Logan of the home; three daughters, Connie Brown Vaught of Sugarloaf, Ark., Sissie Payne of Mansfield, Ark., Donna Logan of Abilene, Texas; three sons, Eddie Rupe of Huntington, Ark., Donald Ray Logan, Jr. of Rule, Texas, Dale Logan of Abilene, Texas; two sisters, Jean Davis of Stanford, Texas, Peggy Robinson of Abilene, Texas; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Pauline Bryan
Pauline Bryan, 99, of Greenwood, Ark. died Tuesday, September 9, 2003, in a Fort Smith hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of the Greenwood First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Milo Earl Bryan.
Funeral services were Thursday, September 11, 2003, at Greenwood First Baptist Church in Greenwood, Ark. with burial at Gilliam cemetery in Greenwood, Ark. under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
Survivors include one daughter, Patti Dandurand of Little Rock, Ark.; two sons, Dr. Bill C. Bryan of Atlanta, Georgia and George Bryan of Memphis, Tenn.; nine grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Alice Sweeten
Alice Sweeten, 80, of Fort Smith, Ark. died Wednesday, November 19, 2003, in her home. She was a homemaker and the widow of William Leo Sweeten.
Funeral services were November 21, 2003, at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood, Ark. with burial at Mountain View cemetery in Hackett, Ark. under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
Survivors include six daughters, Georgia Hardman of Greenwood, Ark., Brenda Brantner of Fort Smith, Ark., Delois Herring of Long Beach, Calif., Martha Stone of Gadsden, Ala., Phyllis Norton of Tulsa, Okla. and Linda Phillips of Eufaula, Okla.; two sons, Donald William Sweeten of Carson, Calif. and Michael Raymond Sweeten of Fort Smith, Ark.; one sister, Mary Cochran of Greenwood, Ark.; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Ada C. Talley
Ada C. Talley, 87, of Fort Smith, Ark. died Friday, November 14, 2003, in a Fort Smith hospital. She was a homemaker.
Graveside services were November 20, 2003 at Huntington cemetery under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Mansfield.
Survivors include one daughter, Janet Peters of Clarksville, Ark. and one son, Fred Talley of Little Rock, Ark.
Bobby Leon Gimlin
Bobby Leon Gimlin, 68, of Waldron, Ark. died Friday, November 17, 2003, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was a retired truck driver, a Vietnam Veteran and a Baptist.
Funeral services were Friday, November 21, 2003, at Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Waldron, Ark. with burial at Bush cemetery near Waldron, under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Waldron.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Gimlin of the home; one son, Bobby Joe and wife, Susan Gimlin of Greenwood, Ark.; one step-son, Tim Lovell of Pocola, Okla.; three step-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Tom Taylor, Bill Bates, Walter Buckles, Reyna Gassen, Ron Nelson and Erwin Sims.
Christean Farrar
Christean Farrar, 84, of Hackett, Ark. died Friday, November 21, 2003, in a Fort Smith hospital. She was a homemaker, member of the Hackett First Baptist Church and the widow of Hunter Farrar.
Funeral services were November 24, 2003, at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial at Mountain View cemetery in Hackett.
She is survived by two sons, Jerry and wife, Zelma Farrar of Cedarville and Ralph and wife Sharon Farrar of Greenwood; two sisters, Mildred Gibson of Hackett and Margaret Dyer of Fort Smith; one grandchild and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Lyndell Biazo, Gary Schrum, Benny Clark, Emmitt VanCamp, Bob Dyer and Jack Boone.
Samuel M. Taylor (1913-2003)
Sam Taylor, age 90, of Mansfield, Ark. passed away Nov. 21, 2003, in Frisco, Texas. He was July 22, 1913 in Mansfield, graduated from Mansfield High School in 1931, and went on to earn his Bachelor's and Master's degree from Oklahoma State University and the University of Arkansas. Sam began his 39 year teaching career in agriculture at Carnegie, Okla. and Okolona and Bismarck, Ark. before returning to Mansfield Future Farmers of America, his students won many district state, and National awards. Sam was a director of the Bank of Mansfield for 50 years. He was a lifelong member and Sunday School teacher as well as elder of the Coop Prairie Church. Sam was proud of the fact that his family helped establish the Mansfield community through receiving a land grant from President James Buchanan in 1858. His family donated land for the Coop Prairie Church and cemetery. He was Mansfield School Board member and president. He and Elmyra were active in the Arkansas Retired Teachers Association and served on many retired teachers' boards. Sam was also a board member of the Western Arkansas Legal Services. He and Elmyra were selected as the Scott County Farm Family of the year in 1985. Sam's life was rewarded with teaching, community service, and church worship in Mansfield, Ark. Sam met and married
Elmyra Barnett, his best fried and the love of his life, in 1936. She preceded him in death in 1989. He is survived by sons Martin Taylor of Nogales, Arizona, and Charles Taylor of Frisco, Texas, as well as granddaughters, Heather Wiest of Glendale, Arizona, and Michelle Maldonado of Rio Rico, Ariz., grandsons, Christopher Taylor and Alex Chiqueete of Nogales, Ariz., Stephen Taylor of Frisco, Texas, Michael Taylor of Prosper, Texas, Craig Chase of Aubrey, Texas, Andy Chase of Fort Worth, Texas, and six great-grandchildren. Sam was loved by family and friends and will be missed by all who knew him.
Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 27 at Martin Funeral Home in Mansfield. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, November 28 at the Coop Prairie Church in Mansfield followed by interment at Coop Prairie cemetery.
Sonnie Edwards
Sonnie C. Edwards, 82, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, in Fort Smith. He was born Oct. 5, 1921, in Greenwood and graduated from Greenwood High School. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Fort Smith and a World War II veteran. He was a veteran of Italy with four battle stars, Northern Apcanines, Po Valley, Naples, Foggra, Rome and Arno, was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart for wounds received March 19, 1944, the American Defense Service Ribbon, European Theater Campaign Ribbons and was a retired truck driver for Ayers Furniture Co. He was the widower of Jeanne Edwards.
Funeral services were January 2, 2004 at Eastside Baptist Church in Fort Smith with burial at Garden of Memories cemetery in Charleston under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey; a daughter, Marti Kaufman of Fayetteville; a son, Mike Edwards of Sacramento, Calif.; a step-daughter, Cindy Sugg of Fort Smith; two step-sons, Fred Gushing of Barling and Danny Gushing of Fort Smith; a sister, Gene Courington of Greenwood; three grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, one great-grandchild and six step-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jimmie, Donnie and Randy Ford, Rick and Tim Rainwater and Josh Vest.
Peggy Ashburn
Peggy Ashburn, 85, of Hartford, Ark. died Tuesday, December 30, 2003, in her home. She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her husband, Barney Ashburn.
Funeral services were January 3, 2004, at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Hartford, Ark. with burial at Hartford Memorial Park in Hartford under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home.
Survivors include one daughter, Betty Benge of Alma, Ark.; one niece and three nephews; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Hugh Franklin "Hoot" Strozier
Hugh Franklin "Hoot" Strozier, 80, of Greenwood, Ark. died Wednesday, December 31, 2003, in his home. He was self employed.
Graveside service were January 3, 2004, at Ramsey cemetery in Hackett, Ark. under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
Survivors include one daughter, Susie Manes of Greenwood, Ark.; seven sons, Bill Strozier, Jimmy Strozier Peewee Strozier, Terry Strozier all of Greenwood, Ark.; Pete Strozier of Charleston, ark., Charlie Stozier of Mansfield, ark. and Otis Strozier of Hackett, Ark.; one sister, Helen Comer of Greenwood, Ark.; two brothers, Buddy Strozier and Reuben Strozier both of Greenwood, Ark.; 21 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Marie Stroud
Marie Stroud, 67 of Greenwood, Ark. died Saturday, January 3, 2004, in a Fort Smith hospital. She was a retired nurse at Sparks Regional Medical Center, and a member of Christ the King Catholic Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister and past president of the Presentation Circle. She was preceded in death by her mother, Marie Coleman; her father, James Coleman, her sister, Carolyn Presson, and a grandchild, Justin Griffith.
Funeral services were January 6, 2004, at Christ the King Catholic Church with burial at Liberty cemetery in Greenwood under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood. Rosary services were January 5 at McConnell Funeral Home in Greenwood.
She is survived by her husband, William W. Stroud of the home; one son, Michael Gilham of Greenwood; two daughter, Tenna Gosack of Greenwood, and Nancy Hentges of Tulsa; two step-daughters, Sally Nunley of Fort Smith, and Fran Hall of Fort Smith; three brothers, James Coleman, Jr. of Fort Smith, Roy Coleman of Fort Smith and John Coleman of Greenwood; three sisters, Mary Seaman of Greenwood, Patricia Brodie of Van Buren, and Shirley Coleman of Van Buren; 12 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Brian Harbour, Jim Bynum, Vernon Kennedy, Joe Brodie, Rex Driscoll, and Charles Glover.

Patty Jo Butcher, 48, of Fort Smith, Ark. died Friday, January 2, 2004, in her home. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Bluff Avenue Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Patricia and Foster McNabb, one brother, Foster Steven McNabb.
Graveside services were January 6, 2004, at Evans cemetery in Excelsior, Ark. under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
Survivors include one daughter, Laura Dacus of Fayetteville, Ark. and her husband, Dustin; one sister, Alice Bennett of Greenwood, Ark. and her husband, Philip; one brother, James McNabb of Greenwood, Ark. and his wife, Tina. two nieces and two nephews.
