Linda Shumate
Linda Jean Shumate, 62, of Fort Smith, died January 23, 2005 in Fort Smith. She was a retired Bookkeeper for the Trucking Industry, a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church and the Christian Women's Job Corps.
She is survived by three daughters, Selina Klinghamer of Tulsa, OK; Cindy Shumate of Ozark, AR; and Dixie Shumate of Dora, OK; one son Roger Shumate of Fort Smith; her mother Eulene Wilson of Fort Smith; one sister Mary Raney of Brookings, S.D. and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard E. "Dick" Shumate.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, January 26th, 2005 at 10:00 am in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Parks cemetery in Charleston, AR all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Roger, Joshua, Cody, and Zachary Shumate, Mark and Matthew Klinghamer. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Christian Women's Job Corps Children.
The family will greet friends at Edwards Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 6-8 PM.
Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Baptist Church 2201 South Dallas Fort Smith, AR 72901

Timothy "Red" Lingo
Timothy "Red" Lingo 40, of Van Buren, died Sunday, January 23, 2005 in a local hospital. He was the former owner and operator of Quality Motor Sales in Van Buren and was a member of Van Buren Freewill Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry of the home; one daughter, Crystal Lingo of the home; two sons, Justin Lingo of the home, Timothy Lingo of Van Buren; his parents, Mary and Jim Lingo of Kibler; two sisters, Tammy Burcham of Van Buren, Patricia Wilson of Fort Smith; two brothers, Jim Lingo of Van Buren and Lloyd Lingo of Alma.
Graveside service will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 26, 2005 at Gill cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home in Van Buren.

Nina Ruestow
Nina Ruestow, 81, of Fort Smith, passed away Monday, January 24, 2005 in Fort Smith. She was retired from AOG as a PBX Operator. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 Noon Wednesday in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in Sallisaw City cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
She is survived by her son, John Ruestow of Fort Smith; sisters, Modene Woods of Sallisaw, Herma Tilley of Sallisaw and Emma Lou Tiffany of Norman, OK; two grandchildren and one great grandchild.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Lonnie Hunter
Lonnie Floyd Hunter, 81, of Alma, died Saturday, January 22, 2005 at a local hospital. He was a retired furnace tender for Harding Glass Company in Fort Smith. He attended Full Gospel church in Mulberry, AR and was a member of the Van Buren Masonic Lodge for 50 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Plummer and Bessie Hunter; two brothers, Harvey and Earl Hunter; and a stepson Billy Hunter.
Funeral service will be 2:00 Wednesday, January 26, 2005 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Gracelawn cemetery with Masonic Graveside Rites.
He is survived by his wife, Dewilla of the home; two daughters, Joette Evans of Van Buren, AR and Brenda Crowell of Mountainburg, AR; a son, David Hunter of Alma, AR; one God child, Casey Lynn Pierce of Van Buren, AR; three sisters, Mildred Lampe of Fort Smith, AR, Sue Tuck of Van Buren, AR, and Alivern McDonald of Van Buren, AR; two brothers, Leonard Hunter of Muldrow, OK and Alvin Hunter of Fort Smith, eight grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Freddy, John Cecil and Charles O'Kelley, Lanny, Dennis, and Ricky Hunter.

LeJune Thomas
LeJune Thomas, 81, passed away Friday, January 21, 2005 at Heartland Hospital in St. Joseph, Missouri. She had resided at Vintage Gardens Assisted Living in St. Joseph since August, 2004.
LeJune was born December 6, 1923 in Pottsville, Arkansas to Chalmers and Agnes Whittington Oates. She graduated from Pottsville High School and attended Arkansas Tech University in Russellville.
On December 26, 1946 she married Leroy Thomas of Russellville, Arkansas. He passed away in July of 2000. Her daughter, Debra, also preceded her in death in 2004.
LeJune was a member of the First Christian Church in Fort Smith where she was active in the Church Circle. She had been a member of the DAR, and spent several years researching the family genealogy.
She is survived by sons Michael and wife Suzanne of St. Josephs Missouri; Win and wife Jane of West Lebanon, Indiana; son-in-law Wade Seyfried of Joshua, Texas; grandchildren Michael, Timothy, and Molly Thomas; Clark, and Ashley Thomas; and Jean, Thomas, and Renee Seyfried.
Services will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church in Fort Smith, with Interment at Roselawn cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. There will be a visitation at the funeral home from 6:30-8:00p.m. on Monday. In lieu of Flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Youth Bible Fund through the First Christian Church of Fort Smith.

Dr. T. Wayne Lanier
Dr. Lanier is a native of Sebastian County, Arkansas. He graduated from Mansfield High School and attended Arkansas Tech University before enlisting in the U.S. Navy soon after the outbreak of the Korean War. Following aviation electronics training he was selected as a member of the maintenance crew of the U.S. Navy's Flight Demonstration Team, the Blue Angels, and later made a Far-East deployment to Korea aboard aircraft carrier U.S.S Oriskany, CVA-34.
Following the Korean War Dr. Lanier entered the University of Arkansas where he earned a Bachelors Degree and did graduate work in education followed by a Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree from Washington University in St. Louis. During his senior year he was elected President of Xi Psi Phi Dental Fraternity.
Returning to Sebastian County following his graduation from dental school, Dr. Lanier established a private dental practice in Fort Smith. He is a Past President of the Arkansas Dental Association and was Editor of the Arkansas Dental Journal. During his ten year tenure as editor he was elected President of the American Association of the Dental Editors.
Dr. Lanier served two terms on the Arkansas Public Television Commission, appointed initially by a Democrat and re-appointed by a Republican governor. Before leaving the commission he served two terms as Commission Chairman.
Dr. Lanier is a retired Naval Reserve Captain. During the second Reagan Administration he was selected by the Secretary of the Navy to become the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Reserve Affairs. The unexpected resignation of Navy Secretary James Web prevented Dr. Lanier from serving in that position. The U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee invited Dr. Lanier to contribute their hearings regarding the reorganization of the U.S. Navy's Bureau of Medicine. His report, THE NAVY DENTAL CORPS AND REORGANIZATION, is a part of the Congressional Record of 8 October 1985. Dr. Lanier was appointed to the Commissioning Committee for the guided missile cruiser U.S.S. Arkansas, CGN-41.
While practicing in Fort Smith Dr. Lanier served as President of the Fort Smith Dental Society, Chairman of the Arkansas-Oklahoma State Fair & Rodeo Board of Trustees, President of the Fort Smith Exchange Club, Chairman of the Civic Advisory Committee to the City of Fort Smith, President of the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce, and President of the Greenwood Education Foundation. Other civic activities include serving on the boards of Westark College (now the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith), Fort Smith Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Fort Smith, Fort Smith Public Library, Fort Smith United Fund, Boy Scouts of America, and Bost School for Limited Children. Dr. Lanier was a Republican candidate for Governor of Arkansas in 1986.
Dr. Lanier is married to the Former Helen Barnes of Mansfield, Arkansas. They have two children, a son Lance Lanier and his wife Laura of Van Buren, Arkansas; a daughter: Tara and her husband Jon Allman of San Antonio, Texas; five grandchildren: Benjamin Lanier of Van Buren, Arkansas; Wren Lanier of Van Buren, Arkansas; Kate Lanier of Van Buren, Arkansas; Braden Allman of San Antonio, Texas and Kylie Allman of San Antonio, Texas.
The Laniers are Methodist and Dr. Lanier is a Past Chairman of the Administrative Board of First United Methodist Church in Fort Smith. Dr. Lanier retired from private practice in 1997- to accept a position on the civilian staff of Tripler Army Dental Command, Hawaii. In 1999 Dr. Lanier moved to Landstuhl, Germany where he became the European Director for the Cherokee Nation?s European Dental Contract Project, providing more than 90 American civilian dental professionals to the U.S. Army in 25 Army Dental Clinics in Europe.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 27, 2005 at First United Methodist Church with burial at The U.S. National cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith.
Family will visit with friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel.
Pallbearers will be Jim Burgess, Allen Hales, Jack Alexander, Neal Pendergraft, Paul Walker, Roy Minish, Bill Center, Taylor Prewitt, Larry Clark and Mitch Harper.
Honorary pallbearers will be Fort Smith Dental Society and the Discussion Class Members at First United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church 200 North 15th Street, Fort Smith, Arkansas 72901.

Dr. E.K. Landis
Dr. E.K. Landis, 74, of Fort Smith, died January 25th with his family at his side. He was born June 17th, 1930 in Pulaski, VA.
He graduated from Hampton-Sydney College, Virginia Polytechnic Institute, and earned his PhD degree in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie Tech in Pittsburg, PA.
Dr. Landis was an Emeritus Professor at the University of Alabama where he held teaching, research, and administrative responsibilities during his 35 year tenure there. He worked with the Redstone Arsenal in development of solid rocket fuel used for the Space Program and was a consultant with the U.S. Bureau of Mines in Tuscaloosa, AL for many years before his retirement.
He was a quiet, unassuming man with a quick wit and engaging sense of humor. Devoted to his family, he was a much loved husband, father and grandfather and he will be sorely missed.
He was a member of the Fianna Hills Baptist Church and valued the Christian fellowship there. A member of the noon Exchange Club, he enjoyed meeting with friends each week. Dr. Landis was an organ donor with the ARORA Program.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Dr. B.J. Landis of Fort Smith, 3 sons; Scott Landis and his wife Dana of Houston, TX; Dr. Doug Landis of Baltimore, MD, and Andy Landis of Austin, TX; 2 grandchildren of Houston; 2 sisters: Ruth Rhea Legard of Abingdon, VA and Helen Hutton of Waynesboro, VA.
A Memorial Service Celebrating the life of Dr. Landis will be held at the Fianna Hills Baptist Church on Friday, January 28th at 10:00 AM with the Reverend Ken Stadler officiating under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. Burial will be at the College Hill Presbyterian Church cemetery in Oxford, MS on Saturday, January 29th at Noon under the direction of the Waller Funeral Home of Oxford, MS.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6-8 PM at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel.

Jaunitta Sudderth
E. Jaunitta Sudderth, 86, a resident of Austin, TX. area, died January 23, 2005 at Hospice Austin?s Christopher House. She was born in Happy, Tx. on April 06, 1918 to George and Emma (Pugh)Selvidge. The Selvidge family moved to Mena, AR. in the early 1920?s, where she grew up.
She is preceded in death by husbands William G. Hartman and Lee H. Sudderth. She is also preceded in death by her parents, eight siblings, her daughter, Willetta Allison and her son, David W. Hartman.
She is survived by her daughter, E. Gail Rother and daughter-in-law, Christine Hartman, six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Jaunitta retired in Fort Smith after almost 20years as a cosmetic representative for Elizabeth Arden products at The Boston Store and Dillards.
The funeral will be at Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith with burial at Rose Lawn Park cemetery at 2 PM Wednesday, January 26.

Charlie Mae Deason McWilliams
Charlie Mae Deason McWilliams, 99, of Fort Smith died January 24th, 2005 in Fort Smith. She was the eighth and last surviving child out of twelve born to Robert Monroe Deason and Martha McHenry Deason of El Dorado. She was born August 24th 1905. She was married for sixteen years to Roy Bryan McWilliams who preceded her in death. A dedicated and caring daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, church member, and friend, she formed her life around family and meaningful organizations. She was a life-long Methodist, having belonged to the First United Methodist Church of El Dorado, the Broadmoor United Methodist Church in Shreveport, LA; where she lived for 40 years, and the First United Methodist Church of Fort Smith for 30 years.
She is survived by one daughter Nancy Bryan Zechiedrich and her husband Earl of Van Buren; granddaughter Lynn Zechiedrich of Houston, TX; grandson Leonard and his wife Melody of Rogers, AR; great grandson Bryan Schrock of Houston, TX; a sister in law Georgia Deason of Little Rock, AR; and several dear nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
She enjoyed many kinds of creative work including sewing, quilting, knitting, cooking, porcelain dolls, embroidery, writing, drawing, painting and playing the piano until losing her vision and mobility. She continued to be an inspiration to her family.
Graveside services will be Friday, January 28, 2005 at 3:00 PM in the Woodlawn cemetery in El Dorado, AR under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
The family will greet friends at Edwards Funeral Home on Thursday from 6-8 PM. The family is grateful to Methodist Nursing Home and her special care giving friend, Emerine Velosky.

Vinita Bernice Woodhull
Vinita Bernice Woodhull, 76, Mansfield, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2005 in Fort Smith. She was a retired bookkeeper for Scripps Howard News Tribune in East Los Angels, California.
She was a member of Northside United Penetcostal Church in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her husband John L. Woodhull, Jr.; one daughter: Margaret Pinnick of Whittier, California; one son: John Woodhull, III of Mansfield, Arkansas; two brothers; James Roberts of Benton, Arkansas; Ralph Robertson of Norman, Oklahoma.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 29, 2005 at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial at the U.S. National cemetery 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 31, 2005 under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
She is survived by (1) son: Wayne Woodhull of Mansfield, Arkansas; three sisters: Katie David of Colton, California; Janet Jones of Mansfield, Arkansas and Ruth Dudley of Bryant, Arkansas; three grandchildren: Vinita Meeks of Lakeside, Arizona; John Woodhull, IV of Little Rock, Arkansas; Aimee Woodhull of Paris, Arkansas; one great granddaughter: Maya Gustafson of Mansfield, Arkansas.
Family will visit with friends Friday evening from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at Edwards Funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Glen Jones, Sr., Glen Jones, JR., Luther Jones, Bob Woodhull and Jim Woodhull.
