Bishop "Sarge" Bewley, 45, of Russellville, died Thursday, May 8, 1997, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Little Rock. He was born in Missouri and was a disabled veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife, Chong Bewley, three sons, Tad and Roy L. Bewley, both of the home, and Halcon Bewley of Portland, Ore.; his parents, Roy N. and Juanita E. Bewley of Pottsville; two brothers, Roy Brennan Bewley of Baileyton, Ala. and James Carson Bewley of Pottsville; a half-brother, Laurell Bewley of Virginia Beach, Va. and two sisters, LaVella Dornam of El Dorado, Ar. and Hilda Caudle of Russellville.
The funeral service was held Monday at the Shinn Chapel with Rev. John Sweigart officiating. Burial with military honors was at Shiloh cemetery, north of Atkins, by Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.
Active pallbearers were Howard Caudle, Shannon Briggs, Robert Bewley, Carl Holland, Tommy Langston and R.M. Tucker.
Kathleen Turner Strickland
Kathleen Turner Strickland, 95,widow of W.A. Strickland, Sr., died Thursday, Oct.28, 1999. Mrs. Strickland was born March 14, 1904, in Atkins, a daughter of W.F. and Amanda Thompson Turner. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Lyle and Webster Turner, and sister, Marjarine Turner Leonard.
After graduating from Atkins High School in 1921, she taught third grade during the 1921-1922 school term. It was during the summer of 1922 that she married
her childhood sweetheart Bill Strickland and became a housewife. The Stricklands bought a drug store in 1938 and moved from Atkins to Plainview. Mrs. Strickland worked in the drug store with her husband and became a Licensed Practical Pharmacist on September 1, 1958. Mr. Strickland retired in 1967 and soon the drug store became a part of C&D; Drug Store of Russellville. After his death in 1969, Mrs. Strickland continued to work part-time for C&D; Drug Store. She did not renew her license after 1986.
Mrs. Strickland was a member of the Plainview United Methodist Church serving in many capacities including an active member of the United Methodist Women, Administrative Council, and Choir. She was honored by her church in 1982 for her many years of service. She was also a member of the Gravelly Eastern Star, Danville Music Club, and the Ola Study Club. She and her husband donated land for the Plainview Volunteer Fire Department, and she donated the land in his memory for the Masonic Lodge in Plainview.
Survivors are three children and their families, W.A. Strickland, Jr. and his wife, Wanda, of Overland Park, Kan., and children, W.A. (Dub) Strickland and his wife, Wanda and daughter Rebekah, of Rydal, Ga., and daughter Lea and husband Rick Taylor of Woodstock, Ga., Dr. Robert Strickland and his wife, Ellen, and son, Matthew, of Overland Park, Kan., and David Strickland of St. Louis, Mo.; Kathleen and her husband, William S. (Bill) Bell, Sr., of Russellville and their children, Sharon and her husband, Roger Hamilton, of Atkins, William S. (Bill) Bell, Jr., of Seattle, Wash., and Melissa Duncan and sons, David IV., Daniel, and Drew Duncan of Jackson, Ten.; Kerry Strickland and his wife, Sharon, of Greenbrier, and their children Susan Strickland of Conway; Marna and husband, Rockie Farris, and children, Clint and Kristin, of Conway; K.C. Strickland and wife, Genevie, and children, Maisie, Reece, and Madalyn, of Fort Smith; and Kaye and husband Joe Owens and children, Bryce and Brooke, of Russellville.
A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Atkins City cemetery with a memorial service at the Plainview United Methodist Church at 3 p.m. with Rev. Raymond Hillis and Rev. John Zolk officiating.

Carl Polk
Carl E. Polk, 74, of Atkins, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at his home.
Born in Atkins, a son of the late Eller Elton and Ruby R. Shockley Polk, he was a retired truck driver and a member and deacon of the Kenwood Free Will Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Nellie Mae Willcutt Polk; a brother, Elton Polk; and two sisters, Trilla Dickens and Bermell Hayes.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry Wayne Polk of Senatobia, Miss., and Carl Randal Polk of Dover; two daughters, Carlene McCain of Atkins and Brenda Stone of Dardanelle; a brother, James Polk of Floyd Knob, Ind.; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was Tuesday, Feb. 29, at Kenwood Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Calvin Gipson officiating. Burial was at Bells Chapel cemetery under the direction of Lemley Funeral Service.
Pallbearers were Ronnie, Charlie, Robert A., and Larry Willcutt; Chuck Jones and Kenny Hayes.
Memorials may be made to the Kenwood Free Will Baptist Church building fund.
Gemima “Gerry” Waren
Gemima Elizabeth “Gerry” Waren, 86, of Atkins, died Thursday, April 3, 2002 at the Atkins Nursing Center.
She was born Oct. 1, 1916, in Jerusalem and she was the daughter of the late John and Nora Forrester Warren. She was a homemaker and a member of the Atkins First Baptist Church. She was an avid giver to numerous charities and missions.
Survivors include one brother, Joseph “Andy” Warren of Atkins and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Monday at the Atkins First Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Griffith officiating. Burial was in the Robertsville cemetery by Lemley Funeral Service.
Pallbearers were Carl Moore, Robert May, and Ronnie Fryer.
Lem V. Duvall
Lem V. Duvall, 93, of Russellville, died Feb. 4, 2001.
He was born Jan. 16, 1908, Sunday, in Pine Hill and was the son the of the George W. (Bob) and Dimmie Chronister Duvall. He was a retired farmer, timber worker and member of Happy Valley Assembly of God Church.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard Duvall; a sister, Sarah (Sis) Chronister; and two great-grandchildren, Joshua and Erin Duvall.
Survivors include his wife, Margie Warren Duvall; one son and daughter-in-law, Clifton and Newana Duvall; one grandson and his wife, Paul Wayne and Janis Duvall; one granddaughter and her husband, Jan and Johnny Johnston, all of Russellville; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Feb. 6 at the Happy Valley Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Michael Burden and the Rev. Bob Alexander officiating. Burial was at the Suggs cemetery by Lemley Funeral Service.
Active pallbearers were Dusty, Seth, Zachary and Ethan Duvall, and Brad and Jamie Johnston. Honorary pallbearers were Burl J. (Jack) Duvall, Jim Welch, Quentin Wright, L.B. Duvall, Paul Ray Reed, Warren Cochran, Floyd Byrum, Greg Murphy, Dr. Robert Thurlby, and Joe and Ed Chronister.

Willis Hill
Willis Curtis Hill, 82, of North Little Rock, formerly of Hot Springs, died Saturday, June 2, 2001, at home.
He was a member of the Baptist Church of Hot Springs and a laborer in a workshop at Hot Springs Rehabilitation Center.
Survivors include his sons and daughter-in-law, Wayne Curtis Hill of North Little Rock and Coy Alan and April Christina Hill of Damascus; two grandsons, Alan Curtis and Jesse Alan Hill, both of Damascus; a sister, Reccie Parker of Hot Springs; and a mother-in-law, Marilyn Kay Taylor of Conway.
Graveside service was June 4 at the Shiloh cemetery in Atkins with the Rev. David Downum officiating. Burial was by Lemley Funeral Service of Atkins.
Emma Lee Crowe
Emma Lee Crowe, 89, of Russellville died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000.
Born Sept. 20, 1910 in Newton County, Ark., the daughter of the late Charles and Virginia Hudson Nelson, she was a housewife, a member of the Assemblies of God, the RWBA Bowling League and was an avid quilter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Odes J. Crowe; a son, Odes Ray Crowe; two brothers, Willie and Fred Nelson; and two sisters, Cleora Dotson and Goldie Payne.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Louis and Mary Crowe of Pottsville; a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Sam Jamell of Russellville; one daughter-in-law, Wilma Crowe of Dover; a brother, Oscar Nelson of Dover; a sister, Florence Metz of Little Rock; 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside service and burial was Wednesday, August 9, at North New Hope cemetery in Dover with the Rev. Norman Chenowith officiating. Memorials may be made in care of Donna Blakey, c/o Hospice of the Area Agency on Aging, 103 W. Parkway Dr., Russellville.
