Clarence Williams Speer, Jr., 71, of Woodland Hills, Calif., passed away July 8, 2000.
He was born Oct. 22, 1928, in Oklahoma City, Okla. to Clarence W. Speer and Opal Stout Speer.
He married
Mary Ann Throgmorton in Texas on Oct. 9, 1948. Together they moved to Los Angeles, Calif. from Oklahoma City in 1957. He retired from The Los Angeles Times as Assistant Director of Circulation on April 1, 1992.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann; and his mother, Opal Speer, 93, of Tyler, Texas.
He was the cherished father of Clarence William III and his wife Susan of Woodland Hills; and Mark Wilson and his wife Sheryl of Agoura, Calif.
Adored grandfather to Shelby Ann, Jennifer Marie, Adam Michael and Amanda Marie. Brother to Sue Osborne and her husband Dewayne of Tyler, Texas.
A memorial was held on Friday, July 14, at the FirstUnited Methodist Church in Canoga Park, Calif.
George W. Curry
George W. Curry, 83, of London, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000 at the University of Arkansas Medical System at Little Rock.
Born March 30, 1917, in Dover, a son of George and Hettie Hickey Curry, he married
Ruby Burris Curry on April 15, 1956 in Los Angeles, Calf. He retired as superintendent of schools from Clever, Mo., working many years in Texas, Arkansas and Missouri. He was an Army Veteran of WWII and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Russellville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Reece Curry and an infant sister.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Burris Curry of London; a son and daughter-in-law, George and Pam Curry of London; a daughter and son-in-law, Rosemary and Joel Starry in Mequon, Wis.; three grandchildren, George Dustin Curry, Brent Dolan Curry, both of London, and Ashley Rose Starry of Mequon Wis.; one brother, Fletcher Curry of Caruthers, Calif.; one sister-in-law, Ruth Burris of Russellville; two brothers-in-law, Roy Burris of Dover and Troy Burris of Russellville; nemerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Saturday, Aug. 5 at the Humphrey Chapel with the Rev. Mackey Yokem officiating. Burial was at the Shiloh cemetery at Atkins under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in Russellville.
Pallbearers were Leonard Elliot, Mike Miller, Erie Crouch, Brent Maples, Charles Little, and Buddy Hayes.
Irene Sturgis
Irene Sturgis, 95, of Russellville died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center.
A daughter of the late John and Molly Hatley Jones, she was born April 6, 1905, at Dover. A long-time resident of Dover, she was the widow of Mack Sturgis and a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Bobbye and Charles McAlister of Russellville; a brother and sister-in-law, I.F. and Lorene Jones of Little Rock; one sister, Bertha Moore of Wichita, Kan.; six grandchildren, Charlene Edgar of Broken Arrow, Okla. Mike McAlister of Russellville, Rene Sturgis of San Antonio, Texas, Jamie Sullivan of Springdale, Jill Bundick of Tyler, Texas and Nisi Sturgis of Conway; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services was Friday at the Dover Church of Christ with Julian Reynolds and Travis Sweet officiating. Burial was at McFadden cemetery at Dover.
Active pallbearers were Mike and Brad McAlister, Steve Edgar, John Ed Moore, Roger Jones and Cecil Loveless.
Honorary pallbearers include her sewing club and staff and residents of Wildflower.

Karen A. O'Neal
Karen A. O'Neal, 37, of Atkins died Friday, Sept. 22, 2000.
Born Sept. 2, 1963, a daughter of Geraldine Hogue Quarrles and the late Jim Quarrles, she was employed at the Sonic Drive-In in Atkins.
Survivors include two sons, Steven Quarrles of Clinton and Michael Barber of Atkins; one daughter, Katrin Barber; mother, Geraldine Quarrles of Clinton; two brothers, Roger and Bobby Quarrles, both of Clinton; three sisters, Donna Brown of North Little Rock, Connie Huyck and Rhonda Quarrles, both of Clinton; and one grandchild, Jeremy Kemp.
Graveside services were Monday, Sept. 25 at the Atkins City cemetery with the Rev. David Bishop officiating.
Pallbearers included Jason Williams, Michael Beachamp, David Ferguson, John Morton, Jacob Ennis, Matt Bench, and J.C. Buchanan.
James Fuller
James Charles Fuller "Papa Jim," 59, of Hattieville, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000.
He was born Jan. 15, 1941, in Hattieville, to Clarence and Edith Coffman Fuller. He worked as a mail carrier in Jerusalem and for Western Union most of his life.
Other than his parents, survivors include one son, Monte Fuller of Solgohachia; one daughter, Sheila Umphres of Solgohachia; three sisters, Doris Wells, and Annette White, both of Hattieville, and Linda Briggler of Conway; five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were last Thursday, at the Bob Neal and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Ivy Davenport officiating. Burial was in the Childers cemetery near Hattieville. Service and arrangements were made by Bob Neal and Sons Funeral Home of Morrilton.
Pallbearers were Ray Briggler, Floyd White, Chris Umphres, Daniel Umphres, Brad Umphres Jr., and Roger Weckworth.
Honorary pallbearers were Charlie, Doug, and Kelly Wells, Jerry White, Greg, and C.V. Briggler, Brad Umphres Sr., and Lonnie Mason.
Ed Daniels
Ed Daniels, 64, of North Little Rock died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000. He was employed by Hall Tank Company for 31 years and was a member of Crescent Lodge No. 403.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Daniels; two sons, Steve Daniels and his wife, Cheryl, of Conway, Mike Daniels and his wife, Charlotte, of North Little Rock; four grandchildren, Kyle and Kayla Daniels, Whitney and Brett Daniels; his mother, Pauline Daniels; and sister, Paula Pack, both of North Little Rock.
Funeral services were last Saturday at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Johnny Taylor officiating. Burial was at Rest Hills Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Conway High School Athletic Department, Burns Park Girls Softball Association, or North Little Rock High School Athletic Department.
Betty Baker
Betty Jane McKinney Baker, 74, of Russellville, the widow of William E. "Bill" Baker, Sr., died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000 at Johnson Regional Medical Center in Clarksville.
A daughter of the late Doyle and Johnnie Mae Parrish McKinney, she was born Sept. 12, 1926, at Atkins. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Russellville.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, William E., Jr., and Janie Lee Baker, and Robert Paul and Debbie Baker, all of Russellville; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy K. and Jerry Robertson of Chicago, Ill.; six grandchildren, Tanya Boyer, Sarah Matchett, Paul, Phillip, Michaelle and Daniel Baker; and three great-grandchildren, Joshua, Jonah and Hanna Boyer.
Graveside service and burial were Friday, Sept. 22 at Oakland cemetery in Russellville with the Rev. David McLemore officiating.
