James R. Furr, 51, of Dover, died Saturday Aug. 25, 2001, at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville.
He was born on Jan. 2 1950, at Russellville to Fred Jr. and Verdell A. Stone Furr. He was a member of the Moreland Assembly of God, was a former Moreland Volunteer Firefighter, and worked for numerous years at the Little Rock Air Force Base Commissary.
He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Danny Furr; paternal grandparents, Fred Sr. and Julia Furr, and maternal grandparents, Elmer B. and Ada Henley Stone.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Ann Bates Furr of Dover, a son, Matthew J. Furr of Dover; a stepdaughter, Suzanne Hanson of Spirit Lake, Iowa; his mother, Verdell A. Furr of Dover; two sisters, Lynn Plummer of Dardanelle and Anita Moore of Ozark; a step-grandson, Jerry Moore of Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family received friends Monday, Aug. 27, at Shinn Funeral Service. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service.
Lou Freeman
Lou Freeman, 60, of Dover, died Wednesday, May 17, at Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center.
She was born July 11, 1939, at Mount Judea to Lewis Sexton and Alice Sexton-Douglas and was a business manager for B&M; Inc.
Survivors include her husband, Monroe Freeman; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Rhonda Freeman and Virgil and Lori Freeman of Dover; a daughter, Mary and Kevin Eakin of Dover; her mother, Alice Douglas of Bentonville; three brothers, Dale and Lewis Sexton of Riverside, Calif., and Donald Sexton of Russellville; two sisters, Jimmie Foreman of Lee’s Summit, Mo., and Nickie Rizzi of Riverside, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Matthew Freeman, Amey Reddell, Misty Lee, Kevin Eakin, Justin Nuckols, Jenni Nuckols and Brittany Eakin; and three great-grandchildren, Dannika Reddell, Michael Reddell and Katie Lee.
Funeral was at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Humphrey Chapel by the Rev. Leroy Norton and the Rev. Dick Falbo. Burial was in Phoenix cemetery at Dover by Humphrey Funeral Service.
Active pallbearers include Jack Casey, Dale Freeman, Danny Demoret, Scott Sexton, Billy Stark and Michael Reddell.
Billy Hays
Billy Gene (Bill) Hays, 70, of Little Rock, formerly of Appleton, passed away Sunday, April 15, 2001.
He was retired from Munsey Products, Inc., a member of the Mabelvale Pike Church of Christ and a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. He enjoyed his daily board meetings at the Waffle House. His parents, Virgil and Vera Hays, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mildred Brown Hays; one daughter and son-in-law, Bobbie Jean and Randall Reese of Bryant; one son and future daughter-in-law, Terry Lynn Hays and Leah Dickinson of Benton; and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 18 at the Cedar Creek Church of Christ at Jerusalem. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion cemetery.

John D. Hayes
John D. Hayes, 65, of Pine Bluff died Jan. 5, 2001, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 13, 1935, in the Hardin Community to Edith Taylor Hayes and the late Jim Hayes. He was reared and educated in the Hardin Community where he attended both the Hardin and Dollarway Schools. After he finished school, he went to Kansas City, Mo., where he studied to become an autobody shop technician. He worked in Kansas City, Kan. and went to work for Smart Chevrolet in 1959. He went to work for Central Electric Supply Company in 1966, where he became the vice president before retiring in November, 2000. He enjoyed playing golf, watching sports and especially enjoyed football.
Survivors include his wife who he married
Dec. 21, 1958, in Atkins, Margaret Hayes of the Hardin Community; one daughter, Lisa Merritt; and her husband, Stephen of Sheridan; his mother; a brother, Jimmie C. Hayes of the Hardin Community; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Monday, Jan. 8 at the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son with the Rev. Ricky Andreas officiating. Interment was at Memorial Park cemetery.

Ken Oppel
Ken Oppel, 34, of Russellville, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at Parkview Hospital at Fort Wayne, Ind.
He was born July 11, 1965, at Baldwin Park, Calif., to Ronald and Dee Anna Lee Oppel. He was a foreman with Tele-Tech of Lexington, Ky. He was a 1983 graduate of Ozark High School and a member of Life Center Church.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dick and Virginia Lee; and an uncle, Charles Ray Lee.
Survivors include his mother Dee Anna Giunta of Russellville; father, Bruce H. Giunta of Paragould, Ark.; twin brother, Robert Lee Oppel of Dardanelle and; another brother, Joseph H. Giunta of Sherwood, Ark.; two uncles, Dell and Roger Lee; nephews, Tyler Oppel, Ryan Fak, Eric Fak and Aaron Geary; cousins, David C. Lee, John and Paul Lee, Randee and C.J. Lee and Cheyenne Pippin; two aunts, Becky Pearson and Eunice Shuffield.

H.M. Orsburn
H.M. Orsburn, 73, of Dardanelle died Friday, Aug. 31.
Born Sept. 1, 1927, at Charleston, he was retired president of the Bank of Dardanelle, a businessman and a poultry and cattle farmer. He moved to Dardanelle in 1951, and served on the Board of Stewards for the Dardanelle United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of World War II and a 32nd degree Mason. He served on local and state boards including the Arkansas State Racing Commission, War Memorial Stadium Commission, Dardanelle Hospital Board, Dardanelle Housing Authority, Dardanelle School Board and board director for the Bank of Dardanelle.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, June Jewell Orsburn of Dardanelle; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Bob DeClerk of Little Rock, Dinah and Tom Cox of Dumas and Mary and Steve Scudder of Dallas; two sons and daughters-in-law, Howard and Debbie Orsburn of Dardanelle and Bill and Rhonda Orsburn of Russellville; six grandchildren, Howell Cox, Molly Pilkington, and Katie, Madison, Emily and Ashley Orsburn; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Sunday at Cornwell Chapel in Dardanelle with the Rev. Mark Lashley officiating. Burial was in Brearley cemetery under the direction of Cornwell Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Bob Balloun, Bill Berry, Tom Berryhill, Bob Lyons, Irvin Balloun, Ron Merritt, Ray Rowland and Ron Taylor.

Otto McGuire
Otto McGuire, 85, of Atkins, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001.
He was born May 16, 1915, in Appleton, and was the son of the late John and Biddie McNutt McGuire. He was a Deacon for many years and a member of the St. Joe Free Will Baptist Church, Army Veteran of World War II, DAV, and a member of the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Debbie McVey; a brother, Duel McGuire; and a sister, Katie Malick.
Survivors include his wife of 64 « years, Ollie Johnson McGuire of Atkins; a son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Lorene McGuire of Russellville; a daughter and son-in-law, Lila and Hoyt Johnston of Atkins; a grandson and wife, Greg and Susie McGuire of Russellville; a granddaughter and husband, Zanette and Mikel Standridge of Russellville; six great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jordan, and Hatley McGuire, Ethan, Chelsea, and Zachary Standridge; four brothers, Robert McGuire of Morrilton, John McGuire of Hattieville, James McGuire of Russellville, and Glen McGuire of Tulsa Okla.; one sister, Ruby Reeves of Atkins; and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Duel McGuire of Atlanta, Ga.
Funeral service was Saturday, Jan. 13 at the Lemley Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Fred Goates and the Rev. Bob Alexander officiating. A private burial was at Oakland cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Jerry Virden, Phillip Haney, Mike Evant, William Campbell, Keith Bowden, and Grady Hunnicutt.
Honorary pallbearers were the entire staff of the Atkins Nursing Home, C.B. Haney, Jerry Davis, Danny Duvall, and Dalton Johnson.
