Oren David (Gig) Allen
Oren David (Gig) Allen, 89, of Coal Hill died Wednesday, July 2, 1997, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a Baptist, retired coal miner, and son of the late Dan and Mary Christina Phillips Allen.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Violet Wood Allen; three daughters, Doris Kelly, Sue Gross Kopf and Margaret Singletary, all of Poteau, Okla.; six sons, Robert Allen of Poteau, Okla., Oren D. Allen Jr. and Jerry Fultz, both of Coal Hill, David Fultz of Prairie View, Larry Fultz of Pine Bluff, and Jesse Fultz of Ozark; one sister, Marie Nichols of Lawndale, Calif.; 30 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 5, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gerald Morris officiating. Burial was in Coal Hill cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Oren D. Allen Jr., David Fultz, Larry Fultz, Jerry Fultz, Jesse Fultz, and Robert Allen.
Honorary pallbearers were grandsons.
John P. Baskin Jr
John Pierce Baskin Jr., 50, of Clarksville died Monday, July 7, 1997, at the Veterans Hospital in Little Rock.
He was a son of the late John Pierce Baskin Sr., Veterans Service officer, Air Force veteran, attended the Clarksville Church of Christ and the Harmony Presbyterian Church, a Mason, and member of the DAV Chapter No. 62, VFW, and American Legion.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Tressa Ann Willis Baskin; two daughters, Jennifer Lynn Collier of Anchorage, Alaska, and Sherry Ann Baskin of Boonville, Mo.; one son, Billy John Baskin of San Antonio, Texas; mother, Mrs. Mattie Baskin of Clarksville; two sisters, Bette Ann Moyer of Lamar and Alice May Murphy of Springdale; one brother, Randy Lee Baskin of Clarksville; and two grandchildren, Dylan Renee Collier and Kaitlyn Elizabeth Collier.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 11, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial will be in Harmony cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Armil Curran, Mike Nunez, Mike Jacobs, Jim Lane, Steve Payne, and Ed Ramsey.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of DAV Chapter No. 62.
Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. Thursday, July 10, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Mrs. Bonnie W. King
Mrs. Bonnie Wilson King, 90, of Clarksville died Wednesday, July 23, 1997, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
She was a native of Hartman, daughter of the late Harlow and Etta Phillips Wilson, lifelong resident of Johnson County, graduate of Hartman High School and The College of the Ozarks, member of the Harmony Presbyterian Church, and was employed as a county supervisor for ARVAC for many years.
Survivors include her husband, Ferrell King; one son, Keith King of Phoenix, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Terry Don King of Fort Smith and Stephanie King of Marble Falls, Texas; two great-grandchildren, London King of Altus and Austin Cole King of Fort Smith; one niece, Ann Wells of Orange, Calif.; and one nephew, Arch Wilson Conway of Cota de Caza, Calif.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 26, at the Harmony cemetery with Burley King officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Mrs. Billie Jean Martin
Mrs. Billie Jean Martin, 57, of Knoxville died Sunday, July 27, 1997, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a daughter of the late James Author and Nora Mae Crotts Callahan.
Survivors include her husband, Willard Martin; one daughter, Karen Marvel of Lamar; one son, Michael Berg of Lamar; three sisters, Betty Petersen of Oark and Viola Zahn and Izola Drittler, both of Lamar; two brothers, Roy Callahan of Lamar and Vincent Callahan of Dewitt; and five grandchildren, Donnie Lin Marvel, Dustin Allen Marvel, Jarrod Berg, Whitney Berg, and Sierra Berg.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 31, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Lamar cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Glen Morgan, Donnie Marvel, Gary Garrison, Glen Garrison, Lee Warren, and Chad Kendall.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Jack Faye Harger
Jack Faye Harger, 71, of Coal Hill died Tuesday, July 29, 1997, at Clarksville Convalescent Home.
He was a native of Denning, son of the late James and Johnnie Dorrough Harger, Protestant, retired truck driver, member of the VWF, served in the U. S. Navy and U. S. Marines, veteran of World War II, and Purple Heart recipient.
He is survived by one sister, Wilma Hecker of Coal Hill; one brother, Shannon Harger of Little Rock; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 31, at Coal Hill cemetery under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
Pallbearers will be Bud Hoing, Robert Wall, Bentley Yates, Gene Harger, Jim Harger, and David Torres.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Shaffer Funeral Home in Ozark.
Mrs. Florence Sund
Mrs. Florence May Iva Sund, 62, of Denver, Colo., daughter of Mrs. Lois Ellen Bratton Parker of London, died Thursday, July 24, 1997, in Denver, Colo.
She was a native of Russellville, daughter of the late Jock Parker, widow of Charles Sund, graduate of Orestimba High School in Newman, Calif., chef, Baptist, and a member of the Pinetree Quilt Guild in Nevada City, Calif.
Herb Parker of London; two sisters, Betty Maddox of Nevada City, Calif., and Jane Wood of Glendale, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Allison Campbell and Ellen Campbell.
Funeral was at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, at Moore Howard Berkeley Park Chapel with burial in Ft. Logan National cemetery in Denver, Colo.
Donovan McGuire
Donovan Lee McGuire, infant son of Rhonda Scott and Donny McGuire, both of Clarksville, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center in Fort Smith.
Other survivors include one brother, Ross Scott of Clarksville; maternal grandparents, Patricia and Ronald Patterson of Clarksville; and paternal grandparents, Darrel McGuire and Debbie Morris, both of Ozark.
Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, at the Jackson cemetery near Ozark. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
David Lee Taylor
David Lee Taylor, 62, of Clarksville died Friday, Jan. 21, 2005, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
A native and lifelong resident of Clarksville, he graduated from Clarksville High School, attended the University of the Ozarks and graduated from Arkansas Tech University with a degree in business administration. As a business developer, he owned and operated the Clarksville Sears Catalong Store, Arkansas Valley Mini Storage, Best Western Motel, and Mazzio's Pizza, along with other businesses. He was currently involved in commercial real estate development. A member of the First Baptist Church, he was also on Regions Bank Board of Directors, a member of the Chamber of Commerce and the Airport Board Commission.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years Carolyn Felkins Taylor; one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Darrell Weathers of Clarksville; two granddaughters, Taylor Weathers and Whitney Weathers of Clarksville; he was loved and raised by mothers, Wanda Miller, Kittie Pitts, and Ruby Shuffield; and brothers and sisters, Larry Taylor, Gloria Jean Shahegh, Bobby Cryns, Jimmy Ray Miller and Jack Branch. He was preceded in death by his father, Gorman Taylor.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Robert Brown and Tim Swindle officiating.
Burial was in Oakland cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Gould, Glenn Hartlein, Roy Johnson, Max Slaughter, Kenney Elkins and Gene Talbert.
