Eddie VanScoy

Eddie VanScoy, 49, of Hartman died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998, at his home.

He was born in Camden and a son of the late Charles Edward VanScoy.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Barbara VanScoy; mother, Gertie VanScoy of Enid, Okla.; one sister, Theresa Rieger of Enid, Okla.; and two brothers, George VanScoy of Tucson, Ariz., and Roger VanScoy of Enid, Okla.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Union Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Vernon Long officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

The body was cremated.

Mrs. Gertrude Kreipke

Mrs. Gertrude S. Kreipke, 92, of Lamar died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.

A native of Lutherville, she was a daughter of the late Emil and Emma Moser Senger, widow of Adolph Kreipke, member of the Grace Lutheran Church and Lutheran Women's Missioary League and a church organist for several years.

She is survived by two nephews, Marvin Cook of Ellisville, Mo., and Robert Cook of Elgin, Ill.; and two nieces, Jeanette Baker of Florissant, Mo., and Lucille Hedge of Madison Heights, Mich.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. Loren Famuliner officiating. Burial will be in the Lutheran cemetery at Lutherville.

Pallbearers will be Arnold Ahrens, Gerald Van Landingham, Leo Knoernschild, Edmund Drittler, Jimmy Goodin, and Lloyd Reynolds.

Greer V. Lingle

Greer V. Lingle, 80, of Rogers died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, at St. Mary's Rogers Memorials Hospital.

He was a native of Coal Hill, son of the late Virgil and Clyde Hill Lingle, preceded in death by a brother, Hill Lingle of Coal Hill, former resident of Ozark, retired educator, former Rogers School superintendent, and played an instrumental role in founding the Northwest Arkansas Community College.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Rogers, Lions Club, United Auto Workers Union, Chamber of Commerce, and American Legion and served on the Rogers Museum Board and as a sergeant in the Army Air Corps.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Claudia Prim Lingle; one son, Jim Lingle of Rogers; one daughter, Myra Earls of Glendale, Calif.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral was at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at First Presbyterian Church of Rogers with Rev. Dr. Jimmy Hopper and Rev. Dr. Katie Kelly Hopper officiating.

Burial was at Benton County Memorial Park under the direction of Callison-Lough Funeral Home of Rogers.

Mrs. Janet B. Curb

Mrs. Janet B. Curb, 55, of Clarksville died Sept. 16, 1998, at her home.

She was a native of Iowa, member of the Lutheran Church, 1960 high school graduate, received an associate of arts degree from St. John's College in 1962, a bachelor of arts degree from Wayne State College in 1967, and a master of arts degree in English from the University of Arkansas in 1972. She was a former employee of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Fremont Guide and Tribune, and the Production Credit Association, all of Fremont, Neb., former assistant to the dean of students at the University of Arkansas, and former head of the federally-funded student services program at the University of the Ozarks, where she later became the director of student services. In the 1970s she traveled as an educational consultant in the United States and Canada, where she was awarded an honorary degree by St. Claire College in Windsor, Ontario, and later traveled as an antique dealer from 1981-90.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Spencer Curb; parents, Lawrence and Marie Bettin of Lake View, Iowa; one stepdaughter, Elisabeth Curb DeVore of Orlando, Fla.; one brother, Charles Bettin; one granddaughter, Cheyenne DeVore; two nephews, Dr. Todd Bettin of Lake View, Iowa, and Christopher Bettin of Dallas, Texas; one niece, Lorri Bettin of Swea City, Iowa; and two great-nieces.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at Raymond Munger Memorial Chapel on the campus of the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville. Local arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the library at the University of the Ozarks or the Johnson County Humane Society.

James R. Head

James R. Head, 81, of Russellville died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, at Arkansas Heart Hospital at Little Rock.

A native of Lamar, he was a son of the late Robert Bedford and Lillie Hackett Head, graduate of the University of the Ozarks and U. S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a retired claims supervisor with the Employment Security Division in Russellville where he was employed for 35 years, volunteer math tutor at Center Valley Elementary School for the past seven years, and a member of the Second Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for the past 40 years and was a Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Juanita Wright Head; one daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Rick Eidson of Russellville; one grandson, Eric James Clay Eidson of Russellville; two sisters, Hilda Russell of North Little Rock and Lilly Jean Heller of Germantown, Tenn.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, at the Second Baptist Church with Rev. David McLemore officiating.

Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park at Russellville under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service.

Memorials may be made to Center Valley Elementary School, 5401 SR 124, Russellville, AR 72802.

Mrs. Maggie Kueffner

Mrs. Maggie Beth Kueffner, 41, of Route 2, Ozark died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998, at Mercy Hospital/Turner Memorial in Ozark.

She was a registered nurse with Johnson Regional Medical Center and Mercy Hospital/Turner Memorial, a native of Wadsworth, Ohio, and daughter of Jack and Mollie Miller Dean.

Among the survivors are her husband, Michael Kueffner; four sons, Shawn Michael Boesiger, Christopher Floyd Kerr, Andrew Robert Kerr and Steven Kyle Kerr, all of Ozark; two daughters, Kelly and Julie Kueffner, both of Russellville; mother, Mollie Davis of Barberton, Ohio; three sisters, Pamela Langley of Ozark, DeeDee Helko of Cleveland, Ohio, and Debbie Toth of Charlotte, N. C.; and three brothers, Chris and Chuckie Dean and Chuck Easterling, all of Ohio.

Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at Rankin cemetery in Ozark with Sister Frances Baker officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Mercy Hospital/Turner Memorial, 801 W. River, Ozark, AR 72949.

Michael Allen Pruitt

Michael Allen Pruitt, infant son of Kyle and Melissa Pruitt of Clarksville, died Friday, Sept. 18, 1998, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.

Other survivors include one sister, Kayla Lynn Pruitt of Clarksville; grandparents, Brenda Walters of Clarksville, Phillip Tate of Pine Bluff, and Charles and Wilma Pruitt of Clarksville; great-grandparents, Floy Massey, Issac Tate, and Faye and Darrell Beavers, all of Clarksville, and Fred and Ruth Pruitt of Bradford; great-great-grandmother, Beulah Patton of Clarksville; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Graveside services and burial were at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Lone Pine cemetery with Rev. Leo Villines officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Mrs. Velma I. Jordan

Mrs. Velma Irene Jordan, 70, of Lamar died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.

She was a native of Alma, daughter of the late Henry and Georgia Gregory Bennett, and member of Branch Freewill Baptist Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Bennie Ross of Knoxville; one son, James Danny Walker of Stilwell, Okla.; five sisters, Carnet Christian of Fort Smith, Constance Moore of Van Buren, Ruth Smith of Greenwood, Louise Brown of Joplin, Mo., and Donna Stabb of Alma; and three grandchildren, Jenniefer Jordan and Dustin Campbell, both of Knoxville, and Justin Walker of Stillwater, Okla.

Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at Rankin cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Pigg officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
