Harry Ray Walters

Harry Ray Walters, 79, of Pearcy died Friday, Oct. 2, 1998.

He was an elder at Lamar Church of Christ, deacon at Hazel Street Church of Christ in Hot Springs, member of Richard Street Church of Christ, native of Alikchi, Okla., son of the late B. F. (Buck) and Amanda Walters, served in the United States Navy, and a retired employee of Arkansas Nuclear One.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Sarah Imojean Walters; one son and daughter-in-law, Harrel and Tammy Walters of London; one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Ron Austin of Pearcy; two sisters, Juanita Phillips of Hot Springs and Virgie Green of Azle, Texas; grandchildren, Jennifer and Jason Williams, Ronda Austin, Scotty Walters and Alicia Walters; and great-granddaughter, Kristen Williams.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at Richard Street Church of Christ with Jack Smith officiating followed by graveside services and burial at 3 p.m. at Point Look Out cemetery at Bluffton. Caruth-Hale Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Active pallbearers were Jason Williams, Scotty Walters, David Mitchell, Mark Mitchell, Jimmy White, and Mark White.

Honorary pallbearers were 4 West Nursing Staff of St. Joseph's Hospital, Arkansas Nuclear One at Unit One Operations and Lake Catherine Steam Plant Operations.

Orville R. Skaggs

Orville R. Skaggs, 88, of West Fork died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville.

He was a former resident of Johnson County, son of the late LaFeyette and Joyce Hammonds Skaggs, preceded in death by his wife, Candy Margaret Skaggs, retired coal miner and wood carver, Baptist, and member of the Teamsters and Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include one daughter, Syble Baker of West Fork; two sons, Orbon (Bill) Skaggs of Beach Park, Ill., and Leslie Skaggs of Combs; one brother, Arlie Skaggs of Rogers; 21 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial was in Oark cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Lt. Col. Ray Baker, Michael Skaggs, William (Butch) Skaggs, Eddie Skaggs, Jeremy Somers, and Tim Alsup.

Honorary pallbearers were Farris Lee (Red) Skaggs, Charlie Reed, Dallas Skaggs, James Upton, Lloyd Skaggs, Henry Knuckles, Melvin Skaggs, and Earl (Tub) Skaggs.

Memorials may be made to the Skaggs Family Scholarship, % Rod White, 21890 War Eagle Blacktop, Springdale, AR 72764.

Mrs. Shirley Spears

Mrs. Shirley Killough McCarley Spears, 49, of Greenbrier died Friday, Sept. 25, 1998, at her home.

She was a native of Johnson County, attended Lamar School, and was preceded in death by her husband, Jim McCarley, and son, Ricky McCarley. She was secretary at Woolly Hollow State Park and a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Eldon Spears; two daughters, Tammy Spears Rowbotham and Melanie Spears Thomas, both of Greenbrier; father, John W. Killough of Mt. Grove, Mo.; mother, Corine Gayle Shaffer of Missouri; four brothers, Jack Killough of Plumerville, Mark Killough of Wichita, Kan., and Randy Shaffer and Darrell Shaffer, both of Missouri; one sister, Joy Killough Cash of Wichita, Kan.; and three grandchildren, Morgan Robertson and Tyler and Tara Thomas.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28, at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home Chapel in Conway with burial in the Republican cemetery at Greenbrier.

Pallbearers were Bobby Hargrove, David Reynolds, Roy McCarley, Tommy McCarley, Harrell Reynolds and Raymond Reynolds.

William Chester Peden

William Chester Peden, 94, of Fort Worth, Texas, died Sept. 9, 1998.

He was a former resident of Johnson County.

Survivors include two sons, Gene Peden of Fort Worth, Texas, and Billy Sam of Chanhassen, Minn.; and one brother, Leon Peden of Clarksville.

Memorial services were held at the Veteran's Affairs Chapter in Dallas, Texas, on Sept. 14.

The body was cremated.

Wayne Waits

Wayne Waits, 64, of Ozark, brother of Bea Nowotny of Knoxville, died Monday, Sept. 28, 1998, at his home.

He was a native of Ozark, son of the late Charlie and Lena Belt Waits, Navy veteran, and a road construction foreman for R & E Construction.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Peggy Collins Waits; three daughters, Guila Vigil, Lisa Pritchard, and Carla Easom, all of Ozark; one stepson, Jackie Dow Patrick of Ozark; five other sisters, Bessie Smith of Odessa, Texas, Wanda Durning, Linda Spencer, and Velma Easom, all of Ozark, and Nina Lee of Paris; four brothers, Charlie Waits of Lennox, Kan., Mottie Waits of Fort Smith, and Billy Waits and Jimmy Waits, both of Ozark; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with Rev. Rick Ketchum officiating. Burial was in Mountain View cemetery near Ozark.

Active pallbearers were Mike Ivy, Jackie Dow Patrick, Chris Patrick, Gary Kirchner, Greg Easom, and Larry McCreary.

Honorary pallbearers were Mark Cloos, Donald McChristian, Monte Canady, Shane Waits, Shawn Cagle, and Joseph Vigil.

Beulah L. Pledger

Beulah Lorene Pledger, 90, of Wagoner, Okla., died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, at Wagoner Care Center.

She was a daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Neta Brown Garrett and of the Assembly of God faith.

She is survived by one daughter, Lori Phelps of Claremore, Okla.; one brother, Amsey Garrett of Clarksville; one grandson, John Phelps of Tulsa, Okla.; two great-grandchildren, Kristin and Kylre Phelps, both of Tulsa, Okla.; and three nieces, Joyce Carson and Sharon Cline, both of Clarksville, and Carolyn Bishop of Altus.

Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial was in Garrett cemetery.

Pallbearers were Lecil Phelps, Ed Carson, Travis Cline, Paul Williams, Curtis Bishop, and Verlon Harris.

Elene Cook Foltz

Funeral service for Elene Cook Foltz, 88, of Clarksville, who died Friday, Dec. 17, 2004, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Melvin Bankhead officiating. Burial will be private.

Memorials may be made to the Johnson County Library, #2 Taylor Circle, Clarksville, AR 72830.

She was a daughter of the late Charles Ira and Ethel Hamilton Cook and widow of James R. Foltz.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Thomas H. Hogan of Clarksville; one son, Charles F. Foltz of Clarksville; two sisters, Isabella Knighton of Louisiana and Lorene Cook of Little Rock; and one brother, Ralph Frederick Cook of Texas.

Florine Hixon

Vetra Florine Hixon, 91, of Ozark died Dec. 28, 2004.

A native of Johnson County, she was a daughter of the late William and Rose Etta Patterson, widow of James Hixon, member of the First Baptist Church of Altus, and was preceded in death by one daughter, JoAnn Fine.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Ralph Franklin of Ozark; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Billy Hixon of Ozark and Dale and Pat Hixon of Marshall, Texas; four grandchildren, Mike Franklin and Debby Proffitt, both of Ozark, Tammie Love of Conway and Regina Stephens of Moline, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 31, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with Rev. Bill Milam officiating. Burial was in Nichols Chapel cemetery.

Pallbearers were Dewayne Freeman, Paul Lee, Robert Hollowell, Aubrey Bowen, Wesley Lee and A. L. Pippin.
