Vera Lou Daniel

Vera Lou Daniel, 80, of Clarksville died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005, at her home.

She was a native of Clarksville, daughter of the late John R. and Maggie Poteet Rhett, widow of Jack M. Daniel, member of the Jamestown Assembly of God Church, and co-owner and bookkeeper at South Park Truck Stop until 1981. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Alma Farris, Alta Ralph, Elva Wise and Ruby Daniel, and three brothers, Sherman Rhett, Jim Rhett, and Burl Rhett.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Larry Crutchfield of Yates Center, Kan.; one son, Jackie Daniel of Clarksville; two sisters, Maggie Bly of Hackett and Eula Bly of Clarksville; grandchildren and spouses, Vance, Kelsey and Karen Crutchfield, Danny Wonser of Burlington, Kan., Sheila and John Payne and John and Brittany Daniel of Clarksville; and great-grandchildren, Eli Daniel Crutchfield, Whitney and Devin Wonser of Burlington, Kan., Maegan and Braden Daniel Payne and Cameron Daniel of Clarksville.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be J. W. Bly, Claude Bly, William Earl Daniel, Noel Daniel, John Payne, and Mitch Crutchfield.

Honorary pallbearers will be Homer Qualls and Sonny Barron.

Memorials may be made to Jamestown Assembly of God Church, 1531 South Rogers, Clarksville, AR 72830.

Julius (Jude) Mays

Julius (Jude) Mays, 70, of Hartman died Friday, Oct. 9, 1998, at his home.

He was a native of Hartman, son of the late Arther and Emma Barber Mays, member of Union Grove Baptist Church, and retired Tyson Foods employee.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Margie Drewry Mays; one daughter, Judy Fowler of Clarksville; one son, Richard Mays of Hartman; one half sister, Cora Frazier of Alma; and five grandchildren, Jeremy Fowler of Russellville, Donna Epperson of Clarksville, and John Mays, Tara Mays, and Nathan Mays, all of Hartman.

Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, at Union Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Burnett King officiating.

Burial was in West Mount Zion cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Truman Houston, Don Houston, Curtis Houston, Perry Houston, Eric Houston, and Lonnie Wilson.

Mrs. Jurene Rickard

Mrs. Jurene Rickard, 95, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998, at Sparks Regional Medical Center.

A native of Coal Hill, she was a daughter of the late John and Lillie Butts Jackson, widow of Truman Rickard, member of Parkhill Church of Christ and American Legion Auxiliary of Post No. 31, and a former saleswoman for Hunts.

She is survived by four grandchildren, Harl Schoeppe, Jon Schoeppe, and Emma Campbell, all of Fort Smith, and Mary Franklin of Coffeyville, Kan.; three great-grandchildren, Casey Schoeppe, Taylor Schoeppe, and Robin Couthren; and two nieces.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Putman Funeral Home in Fort Smith with Rev. Thomas Hogland officiating. Burial was at Oak cemetery in Fort Smith.

Pallbearers were John Schoeppe, Harl Schoeppe, Taylor Schoeppe, John Sweat, Jay Sweat, and Michael Rekemeyer.

Mrs. LaVelta Gabbard

Mrs. LaVelta Gabbard, 69, of Ratcliff, mother of Lonnie Gabbard of Lamar, died Friday, Oct. 2, 1998, in Dardanelle.

She was a native of Franklin County, daughter of the late Fred and Ora Williams Smith, widow of Eugene Gabbard, and attended the Assembly of God Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Glenda Watson of Paris, two other sons, Carroll McNutt of Paris and Roy Gabbard of Booneville; one sister, Eula Huffman of Ratcliff; two brothers, Darrell Smith of Lawton, Okla., and Bill Smith of Ratcliff; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, at Smith Mortuary Chapel in Charleston with Rev. David Wasson officiating. Burial was at cemetery Ridge south of Ozark.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Watson, Aaron Watson, Leroy Swain, Calvin Smith, Gary Langston, and David Shaw.

Mrs. Lois V. Simms

Mrs. Lois V. Simms, 76, of Clarksville died Friday, Oct. 9, 1998, at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith.

A native of Coal Hill and daughter of the late Edward T. and Celia King Vardaman, she was a graduate of Coal Hill High School, and a member of the First Baptist Church and the PEO.

Survivors include her husband, L. J. Simms; two sons, John Simms of North Attleboro, Mass., and Tommy Simms of Fort Smith; one sister, Lucille Martin of Paris; one brother, E. T. Vardaman of Little Rock; and four grandchildren, Grant Simms and Kelsey Simms, both of Fort Smith, and Chris Simms and Kyle Simms, both of Attleboro, Mass.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 12, at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Robert Brown officiating.

Burial was in Oakland cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Paul Bean, Tim Swindle, Pete Mann, Arvid Bean, Carl Fiddle, and John Wells.

Mark Barnett

Mark Barnett, 92, of Clarksville died Sunday, Oct. 11, 1998, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.

He was a member of Clarksville Christian Church, Navy veteran, member and past master of the Masonic Lodge, retired from Lever Brothers Company in Whiting, Ind., son of the late John T. and Florence Saylor Barnett, and was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Luella Virginia Barnett.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Jack D. and Karyle Barnett of Clarksville; one sister-in-law, Doris Lambeth of Sullivan, Ind.; one brother, Roland Barnett of Equality, Ill.; one brother-in-law, Homer McKinley of Merom, Ind.; two grandchildren and spouses, Jacquline and Steve DeYoung of Lamar and Terry and John Schutz of Cedar Lake, Ind.; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Doherty officiating. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joshua DeYoung, John Schutz, Sean Schutz, Jason Higgins, Aaron Mize, and Matthew Wylie.

Marilyn Jolley

Marilyn Jolley, 63, died at her home in Wallace, Idaho.

She was a former resident of Johnson County.

Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Barnhouse of Van Buren; one son, Robert Jolley of Morgantown, N. C.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998, at Wallace Assembly of God Church.

The body was cremated.
