Mrs. Jean Robertson

Mrs. Jean Robertson, 61, of North Little Rock, daughter of Mrs. Geneva R. Hardgrave of Clarksville, died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999.
She was the widow of Dr. William R. Robertson, a Stephens Minister at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, member of the Marriage Encounter Team and the North Little Rock Jaycettes, and was active in the American Cancer Society.
Other survivors include one son, Wade William Robertson of North Little Rock; one daughter, Emily Robertson of Little Rock; and one sister, Reba Louise Rose of Little Rock.
A vigil service was held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10, at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral mass was at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 11, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Entombment was in Rest Hills Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers were Eddie Rose, Larry Rose, David Rose, Darrin Rose, Dr. Robert D. Keene, and Dennis R. Davenport.
Honorary pallbearers were Howard Hurst, William A. Halter, Jerome Alford and William M. Robertson.
Memorials may be made to the Arkansas Cancer Research Center, 4301 Markham Street, Little Rock, AR 72205 or to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 7000 JFK Blvd., North Little Rock, AR 72116.

Mrs. Lillie L. Sams

Mrs. Lillie L. Sams, 80, of Ozone died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
She was a daughter of the late George Washington and Annie Mae Turner Boling, widow of Clarence Sams, retired plant employee and minister after having pastored churches in Clarksville and Springdale.
She is survived by one sister, Polly Warren of Clarksville; and three brothers, Thomas Boling of Fallsville, Lester Boling of Lowell, and George Boling Jr. of Green River, Wyo.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial will be in Buckhorn cemetery at Fallsville.
Pallbearers will be Ernie Joe Boling, Ronnie Boling, Gerrel Warren, Donnie Warren, Fred Parker, and Dannie Boling.

Mrs. Mary Edna Boggs

Mrs. Mary Edna Boggs of Waller, Texas, sister of Elizabeth B. Howell of Clarksville, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, in a Houston, Texas, hospital.
She was a native of Scotts Bluff, Neb., daughter of the late W. R. and Myrtle Stewart Boggs, former resident of Clarksville, graduate of Clarksville High School, attended the University of the Ozarks, and served as a pharmacistmate in the U. S. Navy during World War II.
She is survived by one son, one daughter, one other sister, one brother, and three grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Sunday, Jan. 10, in Denton, Texas. The body was cremated.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

Michael R. Carter

Michael R. Carter, 47, of Kermit, Texas, died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, at Pyote, Texas.
He was a native of Roswell, N. M., son of the late Riley and Lily Sampley Carter, and employed as a pool well service operator.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Donna Carter; four sons, Billy Carter of Coal Hill, Duke Carter of Hartman, Roger Carter of Kermit, Texas, and Brian Carter of Blossom, Texas; three sisters, Cherise Smoot of Alexander City, Ala., and Amanda Carter and Alice Carter, both of New Braunfels, Texas; one sister, Helen Burch of Clarksville; three brothers, Kenneth Carter of Clarksville and Wayne Carter and Gene Carter, both of Coal Hill; and seven grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, at the Houston cemetery near Altus with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Mrs. Opal Arthur

Mrs. Opal V. Arthur, 84, of West Fork, mother of Olive Cash of Clarksville, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999.
She was a native of St. Joe, daughter of the late Floyd and Ruth Russell Henley, widow of George O. Arthur, and attended Farmington Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son, Walter Arthur of St. Joe; three other daughters, Frances Knapp of St. Joe, Marilynn Ledbetter of West Fork, and Elaine Ross of Gassville; Floyd Henley Jr. and Charles Henley, both of Pawhuska, Okla., Orville Henley of Wynona, Okla., John Henley of St. Joe, Kenneth Henley of Harrison, and Jim Henley of Billings, Mont.; three sisters, Alva Hensley of Marshall, Madge Fowler of St. Joe, and Peggy Swafford of Fayetteville; 17 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, at Moore's Chapel in Fayetteville with Rev. Preston Beeks officiating. Burial was in the National cemetery.

Orville L. McGuire

Orville Leslie McGuire, 90, of Clarksville died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a retired truck driver, member of the Church of Christ, son of the late Samuel Mansfield and Nancy Lee Underwood McGuire, and was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Allene Patten McGuire.
He is survived by two sons, Charles McGuire of El Paso, Texas, and L. Donavon McGuire of Temperance, Mich.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with John Ballard officiating. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bob McGuire, Noel McGuire, Paul Martin, Albert Hendrix, Eugene McGuire, and Mark McGuire.

Mrs. Vala S. Nation

Mrs. Vala S. Nation, 92, of Clarksville died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
She was a daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Hodge Soard, widow of Norman Nation, Methodist and a retired civil service employee.
She is survived by nephews and nieces including Fred and Barbara Soard and Mrs. Junior (Laura) Soard of Clarksville and John and Mary Soard of Palestine, Texas.
Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 11, at the Stillwell cemetery with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Richard Lee Byrd

Richard Lee Byrd, 64, of Hope, formerly of Clarksville, died Monday, Jan. 11, 1999, at his home.
He was a native of Kansas City, Mo., to John and Opal Sherman Byrd, a retired janitor and a Lutheran.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mary Byrd; six daughters, Pamela Byrd and Teresa Pfeiffer, both of Coal Hill, Rochelle Nelson of Springdale, Connie Smith of Wichita, Kan., Suzette McMorris of Hope and Angela Larson of Haysville, Kan.; one son, Richard Byrd of Russellville; two sisters, Mary Lou McLenon and Martha Davis, both of Kansas City, Kan.; and 21 grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, at the Lamar Church of Christ with Miles King officiating.
Burial will be in Liberty Hill cemetery at Hunt under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Randy Pfeiffer, Jimmy Finfera, Brian Harris, Ronnie Nichols, Paul Cantrell, and Gil McMorris.
Visitation will be from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, at Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Mrs. Syble Curtis

Funeral for Mrs. Mary Syble Rowbotham Curtis, 93, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, at Heiligtag Funeral Home in Arnold, Mo. Burial will be in Shepherd Hills cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13.
Memorials may be to the Alzheimer's Association.
She was a native of Johnson County and widow of A. F. Curtis.
She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Thelma and Raymond Davis, Bernice and Boyd Davis, Florine and Richard George, and Lorene and Charles Money; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Sue Curtis and Claude and Jan Curtis; one sister, Ada Morgan of Clarksville; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
