Maurice Carter
Maurice Wayne Carter, 74, of Fort Smith, brother of James Carter of Clarksville, died Monday, June 21, 1999, in Fort Smith.
He was a native of Altus, son of the late Elmer and Archie Garner Carter, father of the late James Allen Carter, a retired electrician for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 700, a member and past president of I.B.E.W. Local 700, an instructor with the Fort Smith Electrical J.A.T.C. for 30-plus years and a member of the Fort Smith Electrical Examining Board.
He wired the first generator at the Ozark dam and supervised the wiring of the SGL Carbon Corporation.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served in Company B 71st Infantry Regiment, 44th Infantry Division. He saw action in northern France, Germany and Austria and was awarded three Battle Stars and the Combat Infantryman's Badge. He was a member of Midland Heights United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Margaret Ann Doss Carter; two sons, Carroll and Burl of Fort Smith; one sister, Joan Shuller of McAlester, Okla.; four other brothers, Donald Carter of Tulsa, Okla., Earl Carter of Sherwood, Claud Carter of Ozark, and Carroll Carter of Fort Smith; and two grandsons, Burl Carter Jr. of Fort Smith and Chris Carter of Fayetteville.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, at Midland Heights United Methodist Church with burial in Roselawn cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Harold Blaylock, Jim Jones, Eddie Williams, Hugh Fite, Pat Muncy, and Bink Shaver.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 700.

Mrs. Nellie Crowden
Mrs. Nellie Crowden, 72, a former resident of Lamar, died Tuesday, June 22, 1999, at her home in La Russell, Mo.
She was a native of Wichita, Kan.
Survivors include her husband, Eugene (Big Boy) Crowden; one son, David McClean of Rose Hill, Kan.; three daughters, Joan Ratcliff and Sandra Artelt, both of Wichita, Kan., and Carla Sue Johnson of Rose Hill, Kan.; five sisters; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was Friday, June 25, at Housh Funeral Home in Sarcoxie, Mo., with burial in Harvey cemetery west of La Russell, Mo.
Mrs. Patricia A. Jones
Mrs. Patricia Ann Jones, 70, of North Little Rock died Friday, June 25, 1999, at her home.
She was a daughter of the late Dr. Jacob O. and Melba French Ware, native of Kings Mountain, N. C., widow of LTC (retired) Walter Carroll Jones Jr., graduate of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, retired social worker having been employed by the state of Arkansas and the state of California, member of the Lamar United Methodist Church, and associate member of the Lakewood United Methodist Church in North Little Rock, where she was also a member of the Builders Sunday School class.
She is survived by four sons, Walter C. Jones III of Fremont, Calif., Ronald D. Jones of Jonesboro, Ga., Michael Melborn Jones of Bryant, and Patrick Wilson Jones of North Little Rock; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, at the Lamar United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Nease and Dr. Michael M. Jones officiating.
Burial was in Lamar cemetery under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.
Active pallbearers were Bob Cogburn, Carroll Cogburn, Wayne Jones Jr., David Jones, Jacob Jones, and Ken DelVecchio.

Infant Taylor P. Bean
Taylor Paige Bean, one-month-old daughters of Randall Craig Jones and Rhonda Michelle Bean of Clarksville, died Sunday, June 27, 1999, at her home.
Other survivors include one sister, Jenna Jones of the home; two brothers, Christopher Jones of the home and Joshua Bean of the home; grandparents, Patricia and Gwen Woods, Jim and Freda Bean, and Bud and Peggy Jones, all of Clarkville; great-grandmother, Realon Bean of Clarksville; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Carl Wayne Holland officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Jones, James Hall, Larry Hall, Mike Bean, and Eugene Hill.
Mrs. Betty R. Stephens
Mrs. Betty Ruth Stewart Stephens, 65, of Clarksville died Thursday, July 1, 1999, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a nurse's aide, widow of Wayne Moss Stephens, and daughter of the late Martin R. Stewart.
She is survived by three daughters, Vickie Hall of Altus and Ella Bullock and Martina Brown, both of Clarksville; three sons, Larry W. Baker and James Hirtler, both of Clarksville, and Wayne Stephens Jr. of Hot Springs; mother, Hartrue Ogden Stewart of Clarksville; one brother, Clarence (Bud) Stewart of Van Buren; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, July 5, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial was in Lone Pine cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Kevin Brown, Wayne Stephens Jr., Danny Maes, Andy Pelts, Adam Walter, and Eddie Richards.

Rev. Carmon Austin
Rev. Carmon Austin, 69, of Clarksville died Saturday, July 3, 1999.
A native of Tallulah, La., he was a son of the late Medith and Mary Bray Austin, graduate of Fullerton (California) High School, member and pastor of Hays Chapel Methodist Church for the past 12 years, served in the Korean War with the First Calvary, member of Pittsburg Masonic Lodge No. 362, owner-operator of Carmon's Barber Shop for several years, and was preceded in death by one daughter, Carma Lynn Bratton.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Cynthianna Sparks Austin; one daughter, Cathy Austin of Clarksville; one son and daughter-in-law, Clay and Amanda Austin of Clarksville; one son-in-law, Alan Bratton of Clarksville; and four grandchildren, Erin Ann Bratton, Korrin Austin, Shelbey Austin, and Cheyenne Austin, all of Clarksville.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. Waymon Hollis officiating. Burial was in Oakland cemetery.

Miss Mary F. Sykes
Miss Mary Frances Sykes, 94, of Heavener, Okla., died Friday, July 2, 1999, at Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center in Poteau, Okla.
She was a native of Clarksville, daughter of the late James Oscar and Emily Ann Handley Sykes, retired bookkeeper, and a Methodist.
She is survived by 14 nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Monday, July 5, at Oakland cemetery in Clarksville with Rev. Sam Howell officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
George A. Weisenfels
George Anton Weisenfels, 76, of Morrison Bluff died Sunday, July 4, 1999, in Fort Smith.
He was a retired farmer and member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church at Morrison Bluff.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Marie Weisenfels; two stepdaughters, Debbie Kern of Fort Smith and Sandy Siebenmorgen of Morrison Bluff; one stepson, Steve Spencer of Russellville; three sisters, Ann Seiter of St. Louis, Mo., Margaret Siebenmorgen of Morrison Bluff, and Betty Vorster of Little Rock; one brother, Gilbert Weisenfels of Morrison Bluff; and eight grandchildren.
Rosary was at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 7, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
Burial will be at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic cemetery at Morrison Bluff under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
Pallbearers will be Larry Weisenfels, Louis Weisenfels, Randy Siebenmorgen, Bobby Siebenmorgen, Jeffrey Vorster, and David Seiter.
