Mrs. Mary Brown Stephens, 76, of Fort Smith died Sunday, July 4, 1999, at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith.
She was a native of Clarksville, graduate of Clarksville High School, and daughter of the late Arthur J. and Jewell Arnold Brown.
She is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Horace Rand of Alexandria, La.; and several cousins.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 6, at Oakland cemetery in Clarksville with Rev. E. Frank Brown officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Price Oliphant
Price Oliphant, 75, of Little Rock, formerly of Hartman, died Sunday, July 4, 1999, at St. Vincent Hospital in Little Rock.
He was a native of Johnson County, son of the late Francis Lloyd and Bonnie Ester Price Oliphant, member of Geyer Springs United Methodist Church in Little Rock, a service station attendant, and was preceded in death by two brothers, Namon and Fred Oliphant.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Jean Dickerson Oliphant; one sister, Betty Rust of Leawood, Kan.; and two brothers, Dean Oliphant of Hollister, Mo., and Tommy Oliphant of Kansas City, Kan.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 7, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. Sara Bainbridge officiating. Burial will be in Coal Hill cemetery.
Pallbearers will be John Burke, Duane Steele, Virgil Luebke, Bentley Yates, Darrell Weathers, and Steve Weathers.
Mrs. Shirley Ashley
Mrs. Shirley Ashley, 64, of Coal Hill died Thursday, June 24, 1999, at her home.
A native of Los Angeles, Calif., she was a daughter of the late Harry and Eliza Packer Rudd, widow of Orville Ashley, and a retired nursing home housekeeper.
Survivors include one daughter, Cindy Hutchins of South Carolina; two sons, Robert Price of Las Vegas, Nev., and James Price of El Monte, Calif.; one sister, Dorothy Rockwell of Oregon; one brother, Victor Reed of Oregon; nine grandchildren, including Eric Villalba of Coal Hill; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, June 28, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with Rev. Mark Thornbrugh officiating. Burial was at Highland cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tommy Hutchins, Leo Hutchins, Melinda Hutchins, Michael Villalba, Gabriel Villalba and James Linton.
Terry Eugene Dobyns
Terry Eugene Dobyns, 58, of Hartman died Wednesday, June 30, 1999, at his home.
He was a native of Enid, Okla., and a retired highway construction employee.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Patricia Dobyns; three daughters, Terrilyn Dobyns of Russellville, Tracie Clark of Vine Grove, Ky., and Deana Rodriquez of Houston, Texas; mother, Edna Bloomquist of Peoples Valley, Ariz.; two sisters, Cheryl Brown of Riverside, Calif., and Jolene Shahan of Peoples Valley, Ariz.; one brother, Clay Dobyns of Lacerene Valley, Calif.; five grandchildren; one stepdaughter, Deborah Baskins of Russellville; and one stepson, Thomas Chance Baskins of Conway.
The body was cremated.
Local arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Mrs. Doris Grant
Mrs. Doris Grant, 86, of Little Rock died Saturday, July 3, 1999.
She was a native of Clarksville, graduate of the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, daughter of the late Robert Lee and Ethel Atkins Farmer, widow of Horace Grant, a Methodist, former teacher at Ward Schools and a retired teacher and librarian at Cabot Schools.
She is survived by one brother, James C. Farmer of Conway; one sister, Gladys Ruth Farmer of Little Rock; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, at Old Austin Methodist Church with burial in Monk cemetery under the direction of Westbrook Funeral Home of Beebe.
Mrs. Annie Bowen
Mrs. Annie Dee Bowen, 93, of Paris died Friday, July 9, 1999, in Carlsbad, N. M.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Paris, widow of Elmer Bowen, and was preceded in death by one son, James Richard Bowen.
Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Kenneth Bowen and Wallace and Catherine Bowen, all of Carlsbad, N. M.; one sister, Fannie Schwartz of Paris; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, at Roller Chapel in Paris. Burial will be in Baxley cemetery at Paris.
Jack Howard
Jack Howard, 66, of Russellville died Friday, July 9, 1999, at University of Tennesse Bowld Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
He was born at Dover to B. C. and Sally Howard, a retired Arkansas State Police employee, charter member of the Crow Mountain Baptist Church where he was Sunday school director, and a former member of the Pope County Ambulance Board.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Ruby Howard; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Tim Hill of Russellville and Susan and Mike Lee of Arlington, Texas; one son and daughter-in-law, Tracy and Rita Price of Lamar; one sister, Shirley Watson of Little Rock; and five grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, July 12, at Crow Mountain Baptist Church with Rev. Don Rose, Rev. Al Sparkman, and Rev. George Domerese officiating.
Burial was in Owens cemetery at Dover under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service of Russellville.
Larry R. Bates
Larry Randall Bates, 60, of Clarksville died Thursday, July 8, 1999, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a 31-year retired U. S. Postal Service employee, member of Landmark Baptist Church, U. S. Army veteran, and son of the late Ellis J. Bates.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Carolyn Morgan Bates; two daughters, Melinda Middleton and Kelly Bates, both of Clarksville; three sons, Jeff Bates and Mike Morgan, both of Clarksville, and Scott Sosebee of Fort Smith; mother, Addie Bates Bilderback of Clarksville; one brother, Leon Bates of Clarksville; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral was at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 10, at Landmark Baptist Church with Rev. Vernon Bass officiating.
Burial was in Stillwell cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Honorary pallbearers were U. S. Postal Service employees.
Mrs. Wendy L. Askins
Mrs. Wendy Louise Askins, 43, of Clarksville died Wednesday, July 17, 1999, at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith.
She was a native of St. Croix Falls, Wis., daughter of the late Wendell Cook Sr., member of Union Grove Baptist Church, graduate of the University of the Ozarks, and a school teacher.
Survivors include her husband, Glen D. Askins; two daughters, Elizabeth Askins and Rebecca Askins, both of the home; two sons, Jason Askins and Corey Askins, both of the home; mother, Beverly Cook of Hartman; four sisters, Colleen Kasper, Debra Kasper, Barbara VanScoy, and Virginia Kasper, all of Hartman; and one brother, Wendell Cook Jr. of Siloam Springs.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 10, at Union Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Burnett King officiating.
Burial was in Union Grove cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
