Mrs. Thelma O. Linton
Mrs. Thelma O. Linton, 81, of Van Buren died Saturday, Aug. 7, 1999, at Crawford County Hospital.
She was a daughter of the late Jess David and Sadie Swafford, widow of Rev. Elmer E. Linton, former resident of Clarksville, retired nurse and Cass Job Corps employee, and a member of First Baptist Church of Fort Smith.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Floyd Watson of Fort Smith and Ruth and Louis Fowler of Van Buren; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Patia Linton of Van Buren and Steve and Dorothy Linton of Mountainburg; two sisters, Lorene Gordon and Pat Gable, both of California; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial was in Coal Hill cemetery.
Pallbearers were David Fowler, James Linton, Paul Linton, Rusty Masterson, Daniel Linton, Duell Evans, and Floyd Hern.
Arnold Moore
Arnold (A. P.) Moore, 70, of Coal Hill died Saturday, Aug. 14, 1999, at his home.
He was a native of Drew, Miss., son of the late Earl William and Estelle Cagle Moore, retired electrician from International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, member of Woodlawn Free Will Baptist Church at Russellville, Coal Hill Masonic Lodge No. 383, Coal Hill VFW Post No. 8532, and Electrician Local Union No. 700, Navy veteran of World War II, and a 32nd degree Mason.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Lyla Roberts Moore; three daughters, Trina Slade of Fort Smith, Keela Moore of Clarksville, and Revelta Moore of Hunt; two sons, David Moore of Fort Smith and James Moore of O'Fallon, Ill.; two sisters, Vera Lois Clopton of Waldron and Lavelle Moore; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, at the Coal Hill cemetery with Rev. Truman Pixley officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home. Masonic graveside services were conducted by Coal Hill Masonic Lodge No. 383.
Father Damian Wewers
Father Damian Wewers, 86, of Subicao died Monday, Aug. 16, 1999.
A native of Morrison Bluff, he was a son of the late John and Theresa Wewers, a 1930 graduate of Subiaco Academy, received a bachelor of arts degree from Subiaco College in 1934, made his profession of monastic vows on Sept. 15, 1931, and was ordained to the priesthood on May 22, 1937.
The schools at which Father Damian taught were all under the care of the Abbey at that time and they include Subiaco Academy, Laneri High School in Fort Worth, Texas, and Corpus Christi Academy in Corpus Christi, Texas. Parishes in which he ministered were Saint Edward in Little Rock, Saint Mary in Fort Worth, Texas, Saint Peter in Lindsay, Texas, and Holy Redeemer in Clarksville. He was preceded in death by an older brother, Father Raymond Wewers.
Survivors include one brother, Lawrence Wewers of Fort Smith; and one sister, Sister Benita Wewers of Fort Smith.
A Christian Wake service will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 18, and the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 19, in Saint Benedict Church at Subiaco. Internment will be in the abbey cemetery.
Mrs. Effie Castleberry
Mrs. Effie Castleberry, 94, of Hunt died Friday, Aug. 13, 1999, in Ozark.
She was a member of the Centerpoint Missionary Baptist Church and was preceded in death by one daughter, Argie Castleberry.
Survivors include one daughter, Glenda Jones of Hunt; and two sons, Donald Castleberry and Argus Castleberry, both of Ozark; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 16, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with burial in Liberty Hill cemetery.
Dr. Guy Shrigley
Dr. Guy P. Shrigley, 84, of Clarksville died Saturday, Aug. 14, 1999, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville.
He was a native of Coal Hill, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Guy P. (Allie Harmon) Shrigley Sr., graduate of Clarksville High School, attended the University of the Ozarks, received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Arkansas, graduated from Arkansas School of Medicine in Fayetteville in 1939, did his internship at Hillcrest Hospital in Tulsa, Okla., and practiced medicine in Clarksville 42 years prior to retiring in 1982.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, American Medical Association, Arkansas Medical Society, Franklin Masonic Lodge No. 9, Scimator Temple at Little Rock, and Sigma Nu in Fayetteville, a 32nd degree Mason, former director of Arkansas State Bank in Clarksville, and served four years in the Army Medical Corps during World War II where he was the recipient of the Bronze Star for service in Europe.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Diva Thompson Shrigley; one son, James Shrigley of Fayetteville; two grandchildren, Taylor Shrigley and Andrew Shrigley, both of Fayetteville; one sister-in-law, Pauline Kraus of Jacksonville, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, at the First Presbyterian Church in Clarksville with Rev. Lance Jones officiating.
Burial was in Oakland cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Terry Carson, George Overbey Jr., Keith Lewis, Jim Dickerson, Pat King, and Wendell Riddell.

Herbert Jones
Herbert Jones, 72, of Alix died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1999, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a son of the late George Whorely and Edith Jones and had been employed in law enforcement and as a truck driver and carpenter.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Darlene Gillock Jones; two sisters, Roberta Taylor and Barbara Taylor, both of Illinois; one brother, Cecil Taylor of Mt. Vernon, Ill.; and one half-brother, Jack Sheperd of Illinois.
A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 16, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Steve Askins officiating. The body was cremated.
Mrs. Jessie M. Taylor
Mrs. Jessie Mitchell Taylor, a former resident of Clarksville, died Sunday, Aug. 15, 1999, at AMI St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville.
She was a native of Wynne, 1937 graduate of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, widow of U. S. Army Lt. Col. Robert M. Taylor (ret.), and was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd Mitchell of Hickory Ridge and Judge Homer Mitchell of Wynne.
She was a retired home economist and educator. Her accomplishments include 18 years with the Arkansas Extension Service of which 13 years were spent in Johnson County, 20 years with the U. S. Agency for International Development as home economics advisor for agricultural ministries, serving major tours of duty in Bangladesh, Nepal, Nigeria and Kenya, co-author of a home economics textbook for use in secondary schools in East Pakistan, and head of the agricultural missions office for overseas ministries for the National Council of Churches, USA.
After retirement from the above organizations, she was employed by the All Africa Conference of Churches as executive secretary for rural development, headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, board member and international chairman of Arkansas Home Economics Association, and member of national and international professional organizations. She was recognized as an Outstanding Alumna by the Home Economics Department of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and a nationally recognized collector of African visual arts and carvings and leaves an extensive collection of African artworks to the University of Arkansas Museum at Fayetteville.
She is survived by nieces and nephews, Janice Mitchell Clark of Clarksville, Betty Clark Cook of Beatrice, Neb., Billy Mitchell of Hickory Ridge, L. W. (Bill) Clark of Little Rock, and the Penningtons of Clarksville.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Coffman Funeral Home of Harrison.
Roy W. Colvett
Roy William Colvett, 77, of Paris died Tuesday, July 27, 1999, in Conway.
A native of Coal Hill, he was a son of the late Richard and Cena Burnett Colvett, a Paris businessman, member of the First Baptist Church of Paris where he was a deacon for 40-plus years, a past member of the Paris School Board and the Kiwanis Club of Paris, and a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Dorothy Peters Colvett; three daughters, Madelon Cheatham of Russellville, Beckie McElhaney of Conway and Toby Thomas of Corpus Christi, Texas; one son, John Colvett of Oregon City, Ore.; one sister, Opal Andrews of Paris; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service was held July 30 at Paris First Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Prock officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris. The body was cremated.
Mrs. Angela W. Daugherty
Mrs. Angela Woodard Daugherty, 37, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999, in Van Buren from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle accident.
A native of Clarksville, she was a graduate of Hartman High School, and an employee of Tyson Foods in Van Buren.
She is survived by one daughter, Tara Daugherty of Van Buren; one son, Ezekiel Woodard of Fort Smith; parents, Charles and Charlos Woodard of Clarksville; and one sister, Tiffany Woodard of Clarksville.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel.
The body was cremated.
