Charles (Pat) Pitts

Charles (Pat) Pitts, 92, of Clarksville died Friday, Sept. 10, 1999, in Clarksville.
He was a member of the Clarksville Country Club, an avid golfer, veteran of the U. S. Army, member of the American Legion, former resident of Fort Smith and a member and deacon of Central Presbyterian Church of Fort Smith.
Survivors include one son, Charles Pitts Jr. of Plano, Texas; one brother, Hill (Horner) Pitts of Raleigh, N. C.; one grandchild, Jill Alexander of Allen, Texas; and one great-grandchild, Danielle Alexander.
Funeral was at 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 13, at Central Presbyterian Church with burial at the U. S. National cemetery in Fort Smith. Arrangements were under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers were Bill Rodgers, Hartsell Hall, Claude Hall, Bill Holder, and John Whitt.
Memorials may be made to Central Presbyterian Church, 2901 Rogers Avenue, Fort Smith, AR 72901.

Clarence R. Pelts

Clarence Richard Pelts, 73, of Lamar died Friday, Sept. 10, 1999, at his home.
He was a Navy veteran, member of the Assembly of God Church, and son of the late Royal and Laura Hyder Pelts.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mary Butler Pelts; two daughters, Shela Cotton of Clarksville and Cheryl Heath of Oklahoma; five sons, John C. Pelts of Subiaco, Rickey Pelts of Clarksville, Mark Pelts and Randy Pelts, both of Knoxville, and Chad Pelts of the home; two sisters, Dovie Tuck of Hunt and Lucy Apodoca of Cheyenne, Wyo.; three brothers, Arlis Pelts and Robert Pelts, both of Hunt, and Melvin Pelts of Colorado; and ten grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Leon Ketcherside officiating. Burial was in Minnow Creek cemetery.
Pallbearers were John Pelts, Rick Pelts, Randy Pelts, Mark Pelts, Chad Pelts, and Vernon Heath.

David W. Hawkins

David W. Hawkins, 92, of Russellville, grandfather of Dr. Blake Hawkins of Clarksville, died Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, at Legacy Lodge Nursing Center in Russellville.
He was a son of the late Arthur William and Josephine Rush Hawkins, former grocer, retired mechanics instructor at Arkansas Tech University and Petit Jean Vo-Tech, former resident of Paris and the Altus-Denning area, 32nd degree Mason, and a member of Western Arkansas Consistory and the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mildred Bryan Hawkins; one son, Tom Hawkins of Russellville; one daughter, Betty Cole of Russellville; four other grandchildren, Bruce Hawkins of Fayetteville, Carol Smith of Little Rock, Marsha Berdan of Fort Worth, Texas, and Sara Hamby of Russellville; and nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Russellville with Masonic graveside rites. Rev. Stephen Davis officiated and arrangements were under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.
Memorials may be made to the Arkansas Children's Hospital.

Dr. Howell Dean Clinton

Dr. Howell Dean Clinton, 74, of Conway died Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, at Conway Regional Medical Center.
He was born at Hunt, son of the late Cecil and Bertha Johnson Clinton, member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Disabled American Veteran and was retired from the Veterans Administration where he served as chief of counseling and rehabilitation.
Dr. Clinton received a bachelor of science degree in 1950 at Arkansas State Teachers College (now the University of Central Arkansas), master of science degree in 1951 from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and doctorate in education degree in 1974 from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Wanda Nunley Clinton; one son, Larry Clinton of Morrison, Colo.; one daughter, Carol Enderlin of Conway; one brother, Charles Clinton of Clarksville; uncle, Howard Clinton of Hunt; great-aunt, Hazel Johnson of Clarksville; and three grandchildren, Emily, Ross and Amy Enderlin.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Sept. 11, in St. Peter's Episcopal Church with Rev. Greg Rickel officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Griffin Leggett-Conway.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

J. B. Sparks

J. B. Sparks, 76, of Clarksville died Monday, Sept. 13, 1999, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
A native of Clarksville, he was a son of the late Delbert and Ercy Smith Sparks, member of the First United Methodist Church, Friendship Sunday School Class, Franklin Masonic Lodge No. 9, and Clarksville Chapter No. 172 Order of the Eastern Star, Army veteran of World War II, recipient of the Purple and Bronze Star, former owner of Clarksville Sheet Metal Shop, and was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Lee Fowler Sparks.
Survivors include one sister-in-law, Mary Ann Sexton of Clarksville; one brother-in-law, Tommy Oliphant of Kansas City, Kan.; one aunt, Murval Hays of Clarksville; six nephews; and six nieces.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 17, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Lowell Eaton officiating.
Burial will be in Union Grove cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, at Hardwicke Funeral Home.

William Wayne Hale

William Wayne Hale, 61, of Clarksville died Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a retired painter and son of the late William H. Hale and Louanna Freeman Hale.
Survivors include three daughters, Connie Porter and Lillian McCarley, both of Clarksville, and Mary Kaylor of Cabot; one son, Jimmy Hale of Clarksville; one sister, Wilma Daniel of McCleary, Wash.; three brothers, Devaughn Hale of Lamar, Leon Hale of Ward, and J. C. Hale of Vista, Calif.; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Terry Schlinker officiating. Burial will be in Annie's Chapel cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Everette McAlister, Johnny Phillips, Archie Pilgram, Gwen Woods, Don Freeman and Leland Freeman.

Delmar Keith

Delmar Keith, 73, of Texarkana, Texas, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, at his home.
He was a native of Hagarville, Army veteran of World War II, and an auto repair employee.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Joanne Keith; two sons, Freddie Keith of Texarkana and Timothy Keith Sr. of Clarksville; two daughters, Tina Lee and Dede Doss, both of Texarkana, Texas; one brother, Alvin Keith of Clarksville; one sister, Lillian Sparks of Clarksville; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at Eylau Christian Church with Carl Teel officiating.
Burial was in East Memorial Gardens under the direction of East Funeral Home of Texarkana, Texas.

George Dewey Bowen

Graveside services and burial for George Dewey Bowen, 80, of Searcy, who died Thursday, Sept. 9, 1999, at Beverly Health Care Center in Searcy, were at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, at Liberty Hill cemetery at Hunt with. Rev. George Willis officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
He was a native of Johnson County and son of the late Myron and Mary Ellen Wilson Bowen.
Survivors include three sisters, Jewell Lacey of Las Vegas, Nev., Rose Thompson of Reedley, Calif., and Odell Lawson of Burns, Ore.; and five brothers, John W. Bowen of Vilonia, Myron Bowen of Klamath Falls, Ore., Jay R. Bowen of Fayetteville, Charles Edwin Bowen of Wichita, Kan., and James Hoyt Bowen of Ozark.

Mrs. Hazel M. Bean

Mrs. Hazel Marie Bean, 72, of Clarksville died Friday, Sept. 17, 1999, at her home.
She was a native of Clarksville, daughter of the late Robert Harley and Bertha Beatrice Self King and a member of the Stillwell Bible Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Quentin Bean; two daughters, Evelyn Marie Andersen of Clarksville and Phyllis Kaye Atkins of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four sisters, Patsy Latson of Little Rock, and Bertha Smith, Virginia Andersen and Mary Wood, all of Clarksville; one brother, Robert Garland King of Clarksville; six grandchildren, Brian Atkins and Joel Atkins, both of Colorado Springs, Colo., Michelle Moore of Seattle, Wash., Melanie Uscocovich of Ecuador, Adam Moore of San Diego, Calif., and Josh Moore of Clarksville; and one great-grandchild, Santiago Uscocovich of Ecuador.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 20, at Stillwell Bible Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Goodman and Rev. Steve Askins officiating.
Burial was in Stillwell cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Adam Moore, Josh Moore, Joel Atkins, Brian Atkins, David Lasater, and Mike Buckner.
