Mrs. Donna D. Gayle

Mrs. Donna D. Gayle, 52, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, in Santa Cruz, Calif.
She was the daughter of Betty Brigham and Chester R. Heitz.
She is survived by her husband, Robert W. Gayle; two sons, Robert C. Gayle and David J. Gayle; brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Aileen Heitz; and aunts, Muriel Millwood and Christine Smith, all of Santa Cruz, Calif.
A celebration of her life was held at the Gayle home at noon on Saturday, Oct. 2. Arrangements were under the direction of Norman's Family Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

George L. Morgan Jr.

George L. Morgan Jr., 75, of Clarksville died Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
A native of Clarksville, he was a son of the late Christina Kauffeld and George L. Morgan Sr., and attended Clarksville High School. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Gideons, American Legion Bunch Walton Post No. 22, Johnson County Quorum Court from 1977-84, Peach Growers Association, Cattle Association, and board of directors of the Johnson County Farm Bureau. He was a director of Johnson County NRCS for 38 years and Johnson County Co-Op for 45 years, lifetime cattleman and peach grower, owner of Peach Pickin' Paradise in Clarksville, recipient of the Farm Family of the Year award in 1967 and Arkansas Cow Calf Producer of the Year in 1998. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in four campaigns in the South Pacific. He was in the First Calvary whose unit was the first occupational forces to enter Tokyo, Japan.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Geraldine King Morgan; two daughters and one son-in-law, Marilyn Bishop of Norman, Okla., and Carolyn and Ronnie Harris of Nashville, Tenn.; one son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Carol Morgan of Clarksville; one sister, Eileen Griffith of Fort Smith; three brothers, Earl Morgan of Punta Gorda, Fla., Carl Morgan of Clarksville, and Harold Morgan of St. Charles, Mo.; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Lowell Eaton officiating.
Burial will be in Mt. Airy cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Gideons, P. O. Box 243, Clarksville, AR 72830.

Hugo August Makus

Hugo August Julius Makus, 91, of Clarksville died Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999, at Clarksville Convalescent Home.
He was a native of Parr, Ind., son of the late Paul and Emma Hass Makus, a Methodist, retired from the U. S. Marines after serving 30 years and during World War II, was in the Nicaraguan earthquake and was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Eva Marie Makus.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel. The body was donated to the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences.

Mrs. Imogene Arbaugh

Mrs. Imogene Arbaugh, 74, of Oark died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a daughter of the late Preston and Grace Thomas Smith and widow of the late Estel Arbaugh.
She is survived by one daughter, Cathie Brown of Oark; one son, Larry Arbaugh of Oark; two sisters, Jackie James of Hartman and Betty Graves of Springfield; two brothers, Dolen Smith of Springfield and Johnny Smith of Centerton; seven grandchildren, Dean Arbaugh, Benjamin Cook, Lisa Vanderford, Cheryl Langdon, Jacinda Champlin, Cammie Brown, and Kelsey Brown; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at the Mossville Church with Rev. David Reddick officiating.
Burial was in Mossville cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Ben Cook, Mark Champlin, Joel James, Terry Stamps, Tim Vanderford, Tom Langdon, and Rickey James.

James Douglas Mabe

James Douglas Mabe, 56, of Williamsburg, Va., brother of Vicky S. Lints of Clarksville, died Thursday, Sept. 29, 1999, at his home.
He was a son of the late James T. and Edythe N. Mabe and was preceded in death by one sister, Linda G. Mabe.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Barbara Mabe; one son, Brian Douglas Mabe of Washington; one other sister, Kyle Ann Swallop of Gaston, S. D.; and four nieces, Jamie A. Weymouth of Clarksville, Linda R. Wood of Fairmont, W. Va., Suzzane Helmick of Kingwood, W. Va., and Donna Scott of Gaston, S. C.
Funeral and burial were Saturday, Oct. 2, in Williamsburg, Va.

Mrs. Verdell Harkreader

Mrs. Verdell Harkreader, 87, of Clarksville died Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999, in Paris Nursing Home.
She was a native of Lamar, daughter of the late William C. and Willie W. Tipton Sparks, widow of M. L. (Junior) Harkreader, member of the First Baptist Church and Clarksville Chapter No. 172 Order of the Eastern Star, retired legal secretary, and formerly employed in the Johnson County Circuit Clerk's office.
She is survived by one daughter, Patsy Coston of Montgomery, Ala.; one son, James Mark Harkreader of Paris; one brother, W. I. Sparks of Dallas, Texas; three grandchildren, Angie Finley of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Laura Sink of Little Rock, and Lisa Walker of Collierville, Tenn.; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Dr. Robert Brown officiating. Burial was in Oakland cemetery.
Pallbearers were Virgil Knight, Sparky Sparks, Ronald Sparks, Steve Sink, Bruce Wilson, and Dr. Bill Galloway.

William M. Faulkner

William M. Faulkner, 79, of London died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999.
He was a son of the late Frank and Agnes Luton Faulkner, former resident of Crows Landing, Calif., a farmer, and was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Marzee Faulkner.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Katheryn and Robert Strickland of Geneva, Ala.; four sisters, Pauline Forrester of London, Lela Parker of Patterson, Calif., Margaret Daniel of Spiro, Okla., and Evelyn Barnard of Escondido, Calif.; four brothers, Clifford Faulkner of London, Carl Faulkner of Dover, Earl Faulkner of Atwater, Calif., and Lawson Faulkner of Riverside, Calif.; two grandchildren, James Taylor and Janice Taylor McKee, both of Alabama; and three great-grandchildren.
Private graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at Oakland cemetery in Clarksville. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Mrs. Avis Johnson Hyden

Mrs. Avis Johnson Hyden, 78, of Clarksville died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
She was a native of Clarksville, daughter of the late Arch and Clara Hinson Pitts, member of Union Grove Baptist Church, retired employee of Hanford and Priebe Processing plants, and was preceded in death by one son, Gerald Johnson.
She is survived by one son and two daughters-in-law, Tommy and Delilah Johnson of Clarksville and Nancy Johnson of Newcastle, Okla.; one stepson, Archie Johnson of Clarksville; one sister, Audrey Carroll of Laverne, Calif.; five grandchildren, Reg Johnson of Clarksville, Scott Johnson, Mark Johnson and Leann Gentry, all of Newcastle, Okla., and Lance Johnson of Odessa, Texas; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11, at East Mount Zion Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Oden and Rev. Vernon Bass officiating.
Burial was in East Mount Zion cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Reg Johnson, Scott Johnson, Mark Johnson, Lance Johnson, Dave Gentry, and John Buffington.

Mrs. Alice Evans Taylor

Mrs. Alice Evans Taylor, 95, of Clarksville died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Heavener, Okla., daughter of the late Robert M. and Valeria Roberson Evans, lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church, and a 50-year member of the Ludwig Extension Homemakers Club.
She is survived by two sons, Troy Taylor and Forrest Taylor, both of Clarksville; two grandchildren, Mike Taylor of Morrilton and Mark Taylor of Clarksville; two great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. Burley King officiating. Burial was in Oakland cemetery.
Pallbearers were Phil Taylor, Aubrey Yount, Ewell Sexton, Norman Sexton, Alva Taylor, and Dan Leeds.
