Mrs. Lillian Day Patten
Mrs. Lillian Mary Day Patten, 94, of Clarksville died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, in Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a daughter of the late Samuel T. and Fredonia Jacobs Day, widow of Carl M. Patten, charter member of the Woodland Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, was instrumental in the construction of the Bethlehem Church-Community Building, and was a correspondent for the Johnson County Graphic for 80 years. She was preceded in death by five sisters, Elmer McSwain, Fannie Waller, Dessie Dobbs, Eunice Brashears, and Zenobia Edwards, and four brothers, Luster Day, Virgil Day, Seldon Day, and Erastus Day.
She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Carolyn and Harley Williams of Morrilton, Patsy and Sam Dodson of Tulsa, Okla., and Betty Dennis of Clarksville; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, at the Woodland Baptist Church with Rev. Sam Howell officiating.
Burial will be in the Bethlehem cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Alan Nichols, Jeff Nichols, John Haubert, Tom Owens, Gary Nichols, and Wesley Williams.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Lee Vinson
Lee Vinson, 70, of Bono, father of Sharon Jordan of Clarksville, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at his home.
He was a native of Grubbs, former resident of Egypt and Rockford, an employee of Eclipse for 18 years, and was preceded in death by his wife, Ina Jane Vinson, and three brothers, Ed, Lon and J. D.
He is survived by one son, Charles Vinson of Bono; two other daughters, Mary Montgomery of Jonesboro and Linda Wilson of Memphis, Tenn.; one sister, Edith Gatlin of Pocahontas; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, at Trinity cemetery in Bono with Rev. Jerry Jolly officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home of Jonesboro.
Pallbearers were Sammy Montgomery, Terry Vinson, David Montgomery, Curt Jordan, David Turner, Tony Becker, and Brian Montgomery.
Mrs. Mildred Heft
Mrs. Mildred A. Heft, 92, of Paris, mother of Fred Heft of Clarksville, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, in Paris.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Paris, widow of Julius Heft, and was preceded in death by four sons, Theodore, Roy, Eugene and Ed Heft.
She is survived by two daughters, Catherine Bowen of Carlsbad, N. M., and Kay Johnson of Paris; five other sons, Art Heft of Steger, Ill., Thomas Heft of Crete, Ill., Dick Heft of Subiaco, and Lonnie Heft and Ray Heft, both of Paris; 25 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, at Roller Chapel in Paris with burial to follow in Baxley cemetery at Paris.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, at Roller Funeral Home Chapel in Paris.
Mrs. Mattie Paul
Mrs. Mattie Paul, 87, of Ozark died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, at Ozark Nursing Home.
A native of Clarksville, she was a daughter of the late Garland and Ora Harmon, widow of Jack D. Paul, member of the First United Methodist Church of Ozark, graduate of The College of the Ozarks, and received a master's degree in social work at Tulane University. She was employed as an area supervisor for the welfare department and as the county director of the welfare department from 1934 until retirement.
Survivors include two nieces, Susie Cunningham of Clarksville and Mikie Wiley of Van Buren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, at the First United Methodist Church in Ozark with Rev. Roger Glover officiating.
Burial was in Highland cemetery under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.
Mrs. Nina Arrington
Mrs. Nina Wiley Arrington, 67, of Hope died Dec. 31, 1999, at St. Michaels Hospital in Texarkana.
She was a native of Atkins, daughter of the late J. A. and Cora Wiley, widow of Carl Lee Arrington, member of the First United Methodist Church of Hope, was employed as a secretary to John Robert Graves at Citizens National Bank and the Graves and Graves Law Firm in Hope for 33 years, and was preceded in death by one brother, J. E. Wiley of Atkins.
She is survived by one son, Jim Arrington of Glenwood; two daughters, Malinda Arrington and Donna Rhodes of Tulsa, Okla.; one brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Becky Wiley of Atkins; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Alma Jean and Carl Embry of Atkins and Catherine and Jim Bolton of Dallas, Texas; one brother-in-law, Leonard Arrington of Hope, formerly of Clarksville; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Wiley of Atkins; and four grandchildren, Eric Arrington, Lee-Ann Arrington, Tommy Britt and Ashley Powell.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, at the Hope First United Methodist Church with Davis Thompson and Norris Steele officiating followed by burial at 4 p.m. at Oakland cemetery in Clarksville with Rodney Steele officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Herndon Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Foundation or the Susan B. Coleman Breast Cancer Foundation.
Mrs. Vera Lindsey
Mrs. Vera Lindsey, 93, of Springdale died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at a Springdale hospital.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Ozark.
Survivors include five daughters, Jewell Woolsey of Russellville, Alice Hiner of California, Ruby Wyers of Ohio, Mary Wanda Bohn of Ozark, and Linda Ryan of Mulberry; two sons, Floyd Lindsey and Ray Lindsey, both of Springdale; 26 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, at Shaffer Funeral Chapel with burial in Highland cemetery at Ozark.
Pallbearers were Herbert Dickerson, H. B. Bowman, Artis Wayne Hill, Earl Wyers, Glen Warren, and George Overbey.
Memorials may be made to the Oak Grove cemetery Fund.
Mrs. Adelle S. Bishop
Mrs. Adelle Stegall Bishop, 90, of Clarksville died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000, in Oklahoma City, Okla.
A native of Clarksville, she was a daughter of the late H. H. and Laura Walton Stegall, widow of Dergan Bishop, and member of Spadra Methodist Church and Clarksville Chapter No. 172 Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by one daughter, Nancy Bishop Johnson of New Castle, Okla.; three grandchildren and spouses, Scott and Becky Johnson of Oklahoma City, Okla., LeAnn and Dave Gentry of New Castle, Okla., and Mark Johnson of Norman, Okla.; and two great-grandchildren, Ryan Johnson and Kaitlin Johnson, both of Oklahoma City, Okla.
Graveside services and burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, at Shady Grove cemetery with Rev. Burnett King officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Beaufort M. Riddell
Beaufort Martin Riddell, 74, of Clarksville died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center in Little Rock.
A native of Clarksville, he was a son of the late Martin and Inez Stegall Riddell, 1942 graduate of Clarksville High School, member of the First United Methodist Church, a building contractor and apartments owner, and was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Maxine Watkins Riddell, and one son, Ronald Martin Riddell.
He is survived by one son, W. R. (Randy) Riddell of Little Rock; one sister, Billie Turner of Clarksville; three grandchildren, Christi Riddell of Clarksville, Aimee Riddell of Little Rock, and Robyn Riddell of Maumelle; one nephew, David Turner of Clarksville; and one niece, Kim Woosley of Dallas, Texas.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. Lowell Eaton officiating. Burial was in Shady Grove cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Jack Cecil, Jess Thompson, Mike Jacobs, David Turner, Randy Riddell, and Herb Shockley.
Honorary pallbearers were Wendell Riddell, Bill Dickerson, Bobby Earl Pitts, and Duane Steele.
