Mrs. Amy P. Hearne
Mrs. Amy Phillips Hearne, 87, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, in Springfield, Mo.
She was a native of Hartman and widow of J. W. Hearne.
She is survived by one daughter, Julaine Davis of Springfield, Mo.; one son, Robert Hearne of Springfield, Mo.; one brother, Robert L. Phillips of Clarksville; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, in Springfield, Mo.
Blake Loring Dever
Blake Loring Dever, 23, died Jan. 26, 2000.
He, a seaman first class from 1994-98, was a cryptologist and was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Devern Dever and William M. Scott Sr.; and step-grandfather, Burley D. Harlan.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Carol A. and Jim Phillips of Hartman; father, Tom Dever of Corpus Christi, Texas; two sisters, Casie Mallette of Mississippi and Courtney Dever of San Antonio, Texas; aunt and uncle, Martha and Kenneth Argo of Lamar; uncles, William M. Scott Jr. of Hawaii, Howard D. Scott of California, Patrick J. Scott of Oklahoma, and George M. Scott of Minnesota; and numerous cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Carol and Jim Phillips' home on County Road 9 at Hartman.
Billy Dean Daniel
Billy Dean Daniel, 74, of Clarksville died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
A native of Lamar, he was a son of the late Earl and Ethel White Daniel, World War II Navy veteran, member of the Coal Hill VFW 8532, and was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Irene Wise Daniel.
He is survived by two daughters, Ella Mae Craig of Van Buren and Billie Sue James of Hagarville; two sons, William Daniel and Ray Dean Daniel, both of Barling; one brother, Jack Daniel of Clarksville; 16 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. Randy Craig officiating. Burial was in Oakland cemetery.
Pallbearers were Karl Dean Daniel, Mark Craig, Kenny Richards, Kent Daniel, Jackie R. Daniel, and Jason James.
Brooklyn Sherrell
Brooklyn Sherrell, 66, died Feb. 17, 2000, in Tulsa, Okla.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ruth Sherrell; two sons, Jerry of Sapulpa, Okla., and Jody of Tulsa, Okla.; three daughters, Marjorie Satterfield of Muskogee, Okla., Brooksyne Weber of Boston, Mass., and Elaine Morgan of New Brunfels, Texas; four sisters, Violet Willis and Elberta Freeman, both of Batson, Ramona Bailey of Tulsa, Okla., and Bonnie Blevins of Broken Arrow, Okla.; and one brother, Carroll Sherrell of Batson.
Burial was Saturday, Feb. 19, in Sherrellville cemetery at Batson.
Charles H. Chavers
Charles H. Chavers, 74, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at a Fort Smith hospital.
He was a Baptist, son of the late Marion C. and Nora Jane Freeman Chavers, and a retired labor employee.
He is survived by two daughters, Doris Cable of Texas, and Carolyn Woodward of Dayton, Ohio; two sons and daughters-in-law, Darrell and Glenda Chavers of Lamar and Charles J. and Ramana Chavers of Mangum, Okla.; one sister, Emogene Hunt of Clarksville; one brother, Glen Chavers of Knoxville; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, at the Knoxville cemetery with Rev. Ira Taylor officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Mrs. Ethel Oberste
Mrs. Ethel Oberste, 78, of Clarksville died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center in Fort Smith.
A native of Schaghticoke, N. Y., she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Fannie Lee Smith, widow of Raymond H. Oberste, member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and Mothers Society, longtime resident of Hartman, former employee of Fairway Market and OK Food Market, seamstress, and courier for Sahene Motors.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Hilton of Clarksville and Anita Tighe of Woburn, Mass.; one sister, Geraldine Blackler of Peterborough, N. H.; three brothers, Francis Smith of Florida, Eugene Smith of Center Ossipee, N. H., and Charles Smith of Clarksville; six grandchildren, Gina Taverner of Clarksville, Frankie Hilton of Conway, Michael Hilton of Van Buren, and Jennifer Tighe, Valerie Tighe, and Sara Tighe, all of Woburn, Mass.; and four great-grandchildren.
Rosary service was at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21, at Hardwicke Funeral Home. Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Rev. William Wewers, OSB, officiating. Burial was in Sacred Heart Catholic cemetery at Hartman.
Pallbearers were Frank Hilton, Gene Raible, Ted Laneer, Curtis Umholtz, Keaton Hamilton, and Jerry Ratliff.
Jack Leavell
Jack Leavell, 91, of Dover died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at AMI St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville.
A native of Lamar, he was a son of the late William and Lavonia Viola Harris Leavell, member of the Dover Church of Christ, a sawmill owner and had worked in all areas of timber business, and was preceded in death by one grandson, Richard Grant.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Sybil Boley Leavell; two daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Marion Helton of Dover and Etta and John Grant of Alma; seven grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was Wednesday, Feb. 16, at Humphrey Funeral Service Chapel with Harold Turner and Travis Miller officiating. Burial was in McFadden cemetery at Dover.
Active pallbearers were Lance Gordon, Gregg Grant, Paul Helton, Steve Bates, Ken Hull, Paul Williams, Lance Barton, and Shawn Bates.
Honorary pallbearers were Leonard Elliott, Larry English, Doyle McCain, Paul Johnson, Jerry Johnson and nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Mary V. Stock
Mrs. Mary V. Stock, 70, of Modesto, Calif., died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, in Modesto, Calif.
She was a former resident of Clarksville, daughter of the late Marvin and Della Wise Gilbert, and widow of Richard Stock.
She is survived by one daughter, Patricia Raybourn of Modesto, Calif.; three sons, Kenneth Daniel of Reno, Nev., Bob Daniel of Sacramento, Calif., and Mike Martin of Clarksville; three sisters, Pearl Norman of Huntsville, Ala., Ruth Ethedrige of Jacksonville, Texas, and Florence Boggs of Clarksville; one brother, Homer (Blackie) Gilbert of Clarksville; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral was at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial was in Oakland cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Larry Gilbert, Jack Gilbert, Mike Patterson, Robert Patterson, Wayne Gilbert, and Gerald Gilbert.
