William (Bill) Havener
William (Bill) Havener, 68, of Clarksville died Friday, April 7, 2000, in Johnson Regional Medical Center.
A native of Lamar, he was a son of the late Alex and Hollie Pearson Havener and served in the U. S. Air Force from 1950-1970.
He is survived by two sons, Roy Havener of Melbourne, Fla., and Gary Havener of Indialantic, Fla.; one sister, Helen Vires of Portageville, Mo.; one brother, James Havener of Clarksville; and six grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Burley King officiating. Burial with full military honors by the Little Rock Air Force Base Honor Guard was at Holman cemetery.
Mrs. Verna Shrigley
Mrs. Verna Fry Shrigley, 92, of Clarksville died Sunday, April 9, 2000, at Clarksville Convalescent Home.
She was a native of Coal Hill, daughter of the late Ed and Maude Smith Fry, widow of Garland Shrigley, lifetime member of Coal Hill Presbyterian Church where she served several terms as an elder, member of the Coal Hill cemetery Perpetual Care Committee and Coal Hill Extension Homemakers Club, and was preceded in death by one daughter, Sandra Shrigley Ericson.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Marian and Dan Rathbun of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Pam and Dick Jones of Clarksville; one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Mary Jo Shrigley of Maumelle; two sisters, Emily Griffith of Fort Smith and Earline Franklin of Clarksville; seven grandchildren, Steve Shrigley of Atlanta, Ga., Scott Shrigley of Maumelle, Greg Smith and Carolyn Robinson, both of Wagoner, Okla., Laura Anderson of Chicago, Ill., and Andrea Insley and Ben Jones, both of Clarksville; and two great-grandchildren, Kim Insley and Melissa Insley, both of Clarksville.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, at the First Presbyterian Church in Clarksville with Rev. Lance Jones and Burley King officiating.
Burial will be in Coal Hill cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers will be Don Hurst Sr., John Mark Morgan, Allen Bryant, Todd Bryant, Pat Shamblin, and Mickey Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be Don Hurst Jr., Gerad Neihouse, Joe Hoing, John Burke, Herschell Hill, Bentley Yates, and Otto Wall.
Arthur F. Nichols
Arthur F. Nichols, 88, of Heber Springs died Thursday, April 13, 2000.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and a former board member at the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville where he attended college.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Lou Seale Nichols; one son, Thomas Nichols of Houston, Texas; one daughter, Freddie Lou Quist of Heber Springs; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 16, in the chapel at Parkway Village, Commons Building. Burial was in Lower Brandywine cemetery in Wilmington, Del.

Gary Don Phillips
Gary Don Phillips, 38, of San Clemente, Calif., grandson of the late Charlie and Iola Holloway of Clarksville, died Saturday, April 8, 2000, from injuries sustained in a highway accident en route to Los Angeles, Calif.
He was a native of Lawton, Okla., 1979 graduate of Eisenhower High School, attended the University of Oklahoma, received a bachelor of arts degree with a major in psychology from California State University at Fullerton, a master of arts degree in clinical psychology from Pepperdine University in 1998, and was interning in clinic psychology at the time of his death. He was employed at Ferrantelli's in Dana Point, Calif., member of the First Baptist Church in Lawton, Okla., and grandson of the late Alvin and Dullie Phillips.
Survivors include his father, Don A. Phillips of Lawton, Okla.; mother Shirley Kaye Holloway Phillips of Lawton, Okla.; one brother and sister-in-law, Steven Todd and Antonietta Phillips of Fort Worth, Texas; and two nephews, Brent Phillips and Brad Phillips, both of Fort Worth, Texas.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Friday, April 14, at the Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Hildagard Oberste
Mrs. Hildagard (Hilda) Oberste, 83, of Barling died Sunday, April 9, 2000, in Fort Smith.
A native of Hartman, she was a daughter of the late Frank Hugo and Marie Margaret Ehemann Soerries, widow of Ferdinand Oberste, member of Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church at Barling and past president of the Catholic Women's Union of Arkansas.
She is survived by one daughter, Dorothy Clay of Jenny Lind; two sons, William of Harrisonville, Mo., and Richard of Beaumont, Texas; four sisters, Leona Cronin of Brainerd, Minn., Rita Lindsay of Oklahoma City, Okla., Rosemary Nitz of Atchison, Kan., and Florence Wiederkehr of Tulsa, Okla.; two brothers, Raymond Soerries of New Hudson, Mich., and Roman Soerries of Claremore, Okla.; and four grandchildren.
Rosary was at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church where the funeral mass was recited at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, with Father Bill Elser officiating.
Burial was at St. Mary's cemetery in Barling under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Robert Soerries, Joe Soerries, Albert Nitz, Bill L. Oberste, Joe Ehemann and Richard Brown.

Mrs. Jewell Richardson
Mrs. Jewell Pauline Ratliff Richardson, 79, of Russellville, a former resident of Johnson County, died Monday, April 17, 2000, at AMI St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville.
A native of Russellville, she was a daughter of the late John Newton and Susie Ann Robinson Ratcliff, widow of Earl W. Richardson of Clarksville, member of Crow Mountain Baptist Church, and retired food service manager for the Russellville School District at London Elementary School.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Billy E. and Beverly Richardson of San Antonio, Texas, and George E. and Ivon Richardson of Russellville; one daughter and son-in-law, Earla and Truman Owens of Russellville; one brother, Bill Ratliff of Sanger, Texas; one sister, Margaret Brown of Santa Rosa, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 20, at Crow Mountain Baptist Church with Rev. Don Rose and Rev. David McLemore officiating.
Burial will be in Lamar cemetery under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.

Duell R. Evans
Duell R. Evans, 78, of Hartman died Thursday, April 20, 2000, at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center.
A native of Hartman, he was a 1939 graduate of Hartman High School, retired rural mail carrier, charter member and deacon of Hartman Baptist Church, veteran of World War II, and former employee of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Frances Self Evans; two daughters, Rita Lange and Elaine Roberts, both of Hartman; one son, David Evans of Hartman; one sister, Johnnie Ruth Freeman of New York; one brother, Fred Evans of Piney View, W. Va.; and five grandchildren, Dana Flint, Roy Roberts, Angie Lange, Aaron Lange, and Chris Covey, all of Hartman.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 22, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. Clyde Vire officiating. Burial was in West Mount Zion cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Jimmy Cowell, Floyd Hern, Amos Reeves, Tom Fowler, Leo Chrisman, and Bob Rofkahr.
