John David Morris
John David Morris, 50, of Hartman, formerly of North Little Rock, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, at his home.
He was a native of Hartman, son of the late John H. Morris, graduate of Hartman High School and Arkansas Valley Technical School, former resident of North Little Rock, attended the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, employee of the North Little Rock Housing Authority and member of Immanuel Baptist Church of Little Rock.
Survivors include his mother, Alma Morris; four sisters, Linda Easter of Pelsor, Mona Townsend of Redfield, June Moore of Tucson, Ariz., and Estel Hook of Tempe, Ariz.; one brother, Paul Morris of Jacksonville; four nieces; and seven nephews.
A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, at Immanuel Baptist Church in Little Rock with Dr. Rex Horn officiating.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25, at the Hartman cemetery with Rev. Clyde Vire officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Jay Atkins, Jerry Brockington, Don Breshears, Tim Snipes, David Chumley, and Royce Pennington.
Memorials may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church, 1000 Bishop, Little Rock, AR 72201, Hartman Baptist Church, or the Johnson County Health Department Hospice Program.
L. D. Elder
L. D. Elder, 72, of the Barnes Community, brother of Hazel Kreipke of Clarksville, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at his home.
He was a native of the Barnes Community, son of the late Tom and Carrie Plymale Elder, retired from the U. S. Forest Service after 33 years as a heavy equipment operator, and was involved in fighting wildfires, construction, park maintenance and rock work. He was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Don Elder; and two sisters, Nona Murphy and Shirley Phillips.
Other survivors include his widow, Mary Lucille Brown Elder; one daughter, Hilda Daugherty of Van Buren; two sons, Lionel Elder and Luther Elder II, both of the Barnes Community; four brothers, Eugene Elder and Frank Elder, both of Ozark, Bobby Elder of Washington, and Charley Elder of Magazine; and three grandchildren, Hallie, Melinda and Aaron Elder, all of the Barnes Community.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with Rev. C. G. Fisher and Rev. Jim McElhaney officiating. Burial was in Gar Creek cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jim Johnson, Wesley Williamson, Don Hardcastle, Bob Kinney, Robert Elder, and Larry Elder.
Luther Edward (Creepy) Hodge
Luther Edward (Creepy) Hodge, 74, of Clarksville died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Bauxite, son of the late Luther Edward and Callie Ann Lee Hodge, attended public schools in Bauxite and El Dorado, served in the U. S. Navy as a radioman aboard the USS Crockett in the Asian Theatre of War and the Korean War, a 1951 graduate of The College of the Ozarks School of Pharmacy in Clarksville, and former owner of White Drug Store in Clarksville. He was also a former owner of drug stores in Morrilton, Harrison, North Little Rock, Hot Springs and Paris and in 1972 purchased McAnally's Shoe Store and the Ben Franklin Store in Clarksville.
He was a past president of the Johnson County Chamber of Commerce, the Economic Development Council, The College of the Ozarks Alumni Association, and the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy, and was the recipient of the Bowl of Hygeia Award in 1969 for outstanding community service, the Arkansas Pharmacist of the Year award in 1974 and The College of the Ozarks Alumni Association achievement award.
Hodge was a member of the board of directors for the Southern Christian Home in Morrilton, the development council of Harding University, the National Speakers Association where he began the "Three Unusual Days" ministry in 1981, a Church of Christ minister having preached for churches in Hagarville, Clarksville and Coal Hill, a deacon in the Church of Christ in Clarksville, and was involved in mission work in Quatemala, Panama, Honduras and Peru.
Survivors include his widow, Aimee Hodge; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Alice Hodge of Hagarville and Craig and Sandra Hodge of Clarksville; one brother, Jack Hodge of El Dorado; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three foster daughters, Dora Faye Fryer of Atkins, Barbara Phillips of Springfield, and Joanne Cook of Little Rock; and four foster grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Clarksville Church of Christ with Jack Farber and Eddie Cloer officiating.
Mrs. Edna S. Hall
Mrs. Edna M. Sanders Hall, 89, of Springdale died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2000, at Northwest Medical Center.
She was a daughter of the late Claude Lewis and Myrtle Johnson Watson, widow of Cladie Sanders and Jim Hall, retired hospital employee, and a Baptist.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Vera and V. H. Taylor of Springdale, Myrtle and Bill Taylor of Springdale and Faye and Fred Cowell of Clarksville; two half-brothers, Amos Watson of New Mexico and Johnny Watson of Hagarville; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Dr. Gene Fulcher and Rev. Rodney Weeks officiating. Burial was in Mt. Vernon cemetery.
Pallbearers were Lonnie Taylor, Nick Taylor, Bill Harris, Lance Taylor, Mike Taylor, and Mike Mee.
Mrs. Florence Massey
Mrs. Florence E. Massey, 58, of Clarksville died Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, at Beverly Health Care in Van Buren.
She was a daughter of the late Jimmy Bennett, widow of Jimmy Ray Massey, a member of the Jamestown Assembly of God Church, and was preceded in death by two brothers, Leon Ellison and Kenneth Greenhall.
She is survived by five daughters, Bonnie Johnson and Tamsey Parker, both of Hartman, Jimmie Dayton of Decatur, and Sandra Massey and Ronda Massey, both of Clarksville; two sons, James Massey and John Massey, both of Clarksville; mother, Elizabeth Chavers Mefford of Lamar; five sisters, Donna Mefford and Jackie Pelts, both of Lamar, Imogene King of Ozone, and Dimple Carston and Louise Culley, both of Clarksville; two brothers, Jimmy Greenhall of Lamar and Doyle Mefford of Clarksville; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, at the Jamestown Assembly of God Church with Rev. Rick Reeves and Rev. Jay McEntyre officiating.
Burial will be in Oakland cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gladys Patterson
Mrs. Gladys Thomson Patterson, 92, of Clarksville died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
She was the widow of Edward Hall Patterson Sr., member of Clarksville First Presbyterian Church, where she was a past elder and member of the church circle and women's association, charter member of Chapter Q, PEO Sisterhood, member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, former school teacher at Mansfield, native of Charleston, and daughter of the late Clyde and Jessie Laura DeZeile Thomson.
Survivors are three sons and daughters-in-law, Edward H. Jr. and Paula Patterson of Germantown, Tenn., George and Jackie Patterson of Knoxville, Tenn., and John Samuel and Edna Patterson of Clarksville; three sisters, Ada Asher, Naomi Ramos and Jean Laws, all of Fort Smith; one brother, Sam Thomson of Charleston; and four grandchildren, Page Hardin of Fayetteville, Penny Coffman of Russellville, Eddie Patterson of Nashville, Tenn., and Brian Patterson of Germantown, Tenn.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, at the Clarksville First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Lance Jones officiating.
Burial will be in Oakland cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
James E. Wells
James E. Wells, 80, of Dover died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000, at his home.
He was a native of Tulsa, Okla., son of the late J. H. and Lena Rodgers Wells, retired from the military services and was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Seals Wells.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Wells and Robert Wells, both of Clarksville; one daughter, Mary Wells Parker of Clarksville; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral was Monday, Aug. 7, at Anglin Funeral Home in Dover with burial at Fort Donelson National cemetery in Dover.
Mrs. Mildred Harger
Mrs. Mildred C. O'Neal Harger, 84, of Coal Hill died Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, at Mercy Hospital/Turner Memorial in Ozark.
A native of St. Louis, Mo., she was a daughter of the late Irvie and Grace Kenne O'Neal, widow of Elvis (Bony) Harger, and a retired Union Bakery employee.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews including Wilma Hecker, Millie Wall and Deborah Bartlett, all of Coal Hill, Carol Regan of St. Louis, Mo., Paul Hecker of Clarks-
ville and James Harger of Ozark.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 21, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Kindrix officiating. Burial was in Coal Hill cemetery.
Pallbearers were nephews, Robert Wall, Michael Wall, Otto Wall, Arron Bartlett, Paul Hecker, Jim Saunders, Gene Saunders, and Jim Harger.
