Ruel S. (Rudy) Sams
Ruel S. (Rudy) Sams, 81, of Fort Smith died Monday, May 2, 2000, in Tulsa, Okla.
A native of Coal Hill, he was a son of the late Eli and Katy May Sandlin Sams, World War II Army veteran, owner-manager of Custom Hearing Aids, member of the Church of Christ and American Legion Ellig-Stouffer Post No. 31, past president of the Fort Smith Rotary Club, and was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Ruth C. Lorenz Sams.
He is survived by two daughters, Beverly J. Anderson of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Connie R. Schilling of Millersport, Ohio; one sister, Robbie Knight of Fort Smith; and three grandchildren, Robert Bonnell of Tulsa, Okla., Libby Bonnell of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Fritz Schilling of Millersport, Ohio.
Funeral was at 1 p.m. Friday, May 5, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with Roy Dunavin officiating. Burial was at the U. S. National cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Bob Douglas, Graham Meadville, Terry Anderson, Ross Carey, Glen Gilley Jr., and Hank Watlington.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Fort Smith Downtown Rotary, Jerry Anderson, Steve Schieling, Robert Bonnell, Fritz Schieling, Cecil Knight, Leroy Douglas, and Leon Douglas.
Memorials may be made to the West-Ark Church of Christ, Coal Hill Church of Christ, or the Downtown Rotary Club.
Bobby Honaker
Bobby Honaker, 53, of Clarksville died Saturday, April 21, 2001, in Ozark.
He was a native of Manilla, son of the late Willie H. and Ruby Leona Brown Honaker, and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
He is survived by two sisters, Rose Mary Skaggs of Lamar and Ruby L. Honaker of Clarksville; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 27, at the Hartman cemetery. The body was cremated. Arrangements are under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Dora Elsie Cowell
Dora Elsie Cowell, 100, of Deer died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at Clarksville.
She was a daughter of the late John and Mary Adams Faught, widow of Albert Cowell, affiliated with the Free Holiness Church, and was preceded in death by two daughters, Blanche Clayborn and Ruby Cowell; one son, Boyd Cowell; three sisters; and three brothers.
She is survived by two daughters, Betty Farris of Clarksville and Ida Davis of Deer; one son, Wilburn Cowell of Tulsa, Okla.; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at the Deer High School Gymnasium with Rev. Bobby Young officiating.
Burial was in the Deer cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.
Dorothy Woodrow Hull
Dorothy Woodrow Hull, 85, of Lamar died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Hagarville.
She was a daughter of the late Joe and Dora Jane Pearson, widow of Marion Doyal Hull, and was affiliated with the Assembly of God Church.
She is survived by three daughters and one son-in-law, Freda Rose Hull, Janis June Hull, and Frances Doreen and John Dick Stockton, all of Lamar; and two sons and daughters-in-law, Garland Wesley (Bub) and Eugenia Hull and John David and Nancy Hull, all of Lamar; one brother, Fred Donald Pearson of London; five grandchildren, Dorothy Juanita Farmer of Lamar, Doyle Patrick Stockton of Clarksville, Christopher Allen Hull and Donald Joseph Stockton, both of Lamar, and Andrew Robert Hull of Hagarville; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, April 23, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Lance Jones officiating. Burial was in the Annie's Chapel cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mike Farmer, Chris Hull, Andrew Hull, Donald Cochran, Doyle Stockton, Donald Stockton, and Kenneth Cochran.
Imogene King
Imogene King, 81, of Hunt died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center in Fort Smith.
She was a native of Franklin County, daughter of the late John and Eula Pritchett Craft, a retired beautician, and a former resident of Fort Smith where she was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas King; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lance and Peggy King and Tommy and Sue King, all of Hunt; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 21, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. Lance King officiating. Burial was in Liberty Hill cemetery at Hunt.
Pallbearers were Randy King, Bill King, Rick King, William Webb, David Stepp, and Jimmy Nicely.
Lucille Brady Phillips
Lucille Brady Phillips, 79, of Berryville died Monday, April 9, 2001, at her home.
A native of Coal Hill, she was a daughter of the late James and Bertha Langston Brady, U. S. Army veteran of World War II, retired civil service personnel manager, member of First Baptist Church in Ozark and the Disabled American Veterans, and was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen Fane, Jewel Thomas, and Betsy Penland.
Survivors include her husband, Harley Phillips; one son, David A. Phillips of Crossett; one brother, James Brady of Rolla, Mo.; four sisters, Rheba Thompson and Wanda Ronan, both of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Alice Barker of Newport News, Va., and Willene Holland of Visalia, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Jessica and Andrew Phillips, both of Crossett.
Funeral and burial were at 1 p.m. Friday, April 13, at the Liberty Hill cemetery at Hunt under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Maria K. Cline
Maria K. Cline, 81, of Hartman died Friday, April 20, 2001, at her home.
She was a daughter of the late Franz Xavier and Kreszentia Scherer Bayer and a native of Reid, West Germany.
Survivors include her husband, Art Noel Cline; three daughters, Roswitha Cline of Fort Smith, Sylvia Dixon of Aberdeen, Wash., and Brenda Fillmore of Boone, Colo.; two sisters, Annie Kurtz and Bertle Sieger, both of Germany; one brother, Joseph Bayer of Germany; two grandchildren, Keeley Fillmore and Raina Fillmore, both of Boone, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at the West Mount Zion Methodist Church with Rev. Chris Rink officiating.
Burial was in West Mount Zion cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Gene Koerdt, Bob Cooksey, Lonnie Wilson, Ben F. Hardgrave, Steve Stephan, and Duane Baskin.
Mildred Taylor
Mildred Taylor, 73, of Ozark, sister of Edith Crooks of Clarksville, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, in a Fort Smith hospital.
She was a native of the Cravens Community, daughter of the late Charles and Mary Ellen Elizabeth Riley, widow of Harold Taylor, and was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda George.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Bridges of Ozark and Lorianne Green of Mulberry; one son, Wayne Taylor of Ozark; two other sisters, Wilma West and Irma Thronebury, both of Ozark; one brother, Roy Crooks of Ozark; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at Calvary Baptist Church in Ozark with Rev. Gib Allen and Rev. Howard Tillery officiating.
Burial was in Liberty Hill cemetery at Hunt under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Don Nolan, Phillip Vasquez, Steve Greene, Jason Taylor, Tracy Crooks, and Earl West.
