William James Bishop Jr.

William James Bishop Jr., 33, of Russellville, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

A son of Leona Phillips Bishop and William James Bishop Sr. of Russellville, he was born May 30, 1971, in Dardanelle. He was a truck driver for the Tyson Distribution Center in Pottsville for the past eleven years, was a mechanic and loved working on cars. He attended First Baptist Church in Russellville, and was a devoted son and brother.

In addition to his parents he is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Wendall Dean and Janice Kay Bishop of Russellville; and numerous other relatives.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Wednesday at the Shinn Chapel by Rev. Alan Bradley. Burial will be in Pisgah Cemetery near Pottsville, by Shinn Funeral Service.

Active pallbearers will be Bill Terry Phillips, Michael Woodring, Jake Hale, Leland Franklin, Marty and Russell Standridge, Caroll Woodring.

Alice Jewell Brandon

Alice Jewell Brandon, 82, of Russellville, and formerly of London, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock.

She was born June 22, 1922, at Piney, Ark. to Clifton Charles and Elizabeth Brock Blalock. She was a former employee of Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center and was a member of the London United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Johnie E. Brandon; and two brothers, Joe and Cecil Blalock.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, James E. and Gwenna Brandon of Russellville; three brothers, Bobby Blalock of Memphis, Tenn., Charles Blalock of Minneapolis, Minn. and Benny Blalock of North Carolina; a sister, Jereline Milligan of London; three grandchildren and their spouses, Michael and Debra Brandon, Justin and Melissa Brandon and Nathan and Becky Brandon, all of Russellville; three great grandchildren, Hadassah, Ethan and Jordan Brandon all of Russellville.

Funeral service was Friday, Jan. 28, at the Parker Hill Holiness Church at Russellville, officiated by Rev. David Harrison and Rev. Leroy Muncy. Burial was in Brock Cemetery at London under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service.

Jeanette Elaine Campbell

Jeanette Elaine (McNeal) Campbell, 42, of Perryville died Friday, Jan. 21, 2005.

She was born Sept. 5, 1962, in Little Rock, a daughter of George McNeal and Mary F. Frank Talley. She was a registered nurse and of the Baptist faith.

Other than her parents, survivors include her husband, Jerry Campbell of Plumerville; one son, Joshua Knight Campbell; a stepmother, Linda McNeal of Perryville; three brothers, Gerald McNeal of Ada Valley, Ronald McNeal of Little Rock, and Glen McNeal of Perryville.

Funeral services were Friday at the Perryville Assembly of God with Rev. Buddy Wroten officiating. Burial was in Nimrod Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Perryville.

Pallbearers were Mark Zinser, Larry Brazil, Heath McNeal, Jimmy McNeal, Keith McNeal, and Ron McNeal, Jr. Honorary pallbearers were David McNeal, Terry Parker, Paul McNeal, and Edwin Parker.

Garland Church

Garland H. Church, 76, of Appleton, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Russellville.

A son of the late "Lark" and Ola Mathis Church, he was born Oct. 21, 1928 in Retta, Ar. He was a farmer and Jehovah’s Witness.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John, J.D., and George Church; and a daughter, Shirley Church Arnett.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Church; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Glenda McConnell, Margie and Don Freeman and Robbie and Frank Godfrey, all of Appleton; and Lisa Church of the home; a sister, Evelyn Cothren of Jerusalem; six grandchildren, Misty McConnell, Justin Freeman and Kristen Godfrey, all of Appleton; Matthew and Timothy Kisling, both of Mt. George; and Josh Freeman of Conway; and several nephews and nieces.

Graveside services and burial were Thursday, at the Forks of the Creek Cemetery near Hector by Shinn Funeral Service.

Nina Crow

Nina Ruth Crow, 70, of Eugene, Ore., died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005.

She was born July 1, 1934, at the community of Mt. Vernon. She was the daughter of the late Silas and Lada Gray.

She battled cancer for many years. She was of the Assembly of God belief. She enjoyed cooking and working in her yard with the flowers and being with her family.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Gray, of Noti, Ore.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond Crow of Eugene; three sons, Wayne Crow and Ronnie Crow of Venita, Ore., and David Crow of Eugene; one brother, Jimmie Gray of Pottsville; and a sister, Ima Jean Roberts of Oak Grove; ten grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 20 at Chapel of Memories in Eugene, Ore. by Bro. Bob McGhee of West Plains, Mo. Burial was in Lane Memorial Gardens in Eugene, Ore.

Pallbearers were Shawn Crow, Mike Crow, Brandon Crow, Tim Crow, Rocky Gray and Chris Bolivar.

Agnes Estep

Agnes Foster Estep, 88, of Russellville, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, at Legacy Lodge Nursing Center at Russellville.

She was born Nov. 24, 1916, at Midway in Logan County, to Riley and Tennie Trusty Foster . She was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Russellville. She loved the Lord and loved studying the Bible in Bible Study Fellowship and singing Hymns.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Martha Jane Estep; three brothers, Curtis O. Foster , Dewey Denton Foster , and Murry M. Foster ; and two sisters, Sara Janie Foster and Atha L. Foster .

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Marie Estep of Russellville; a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Dennis Duryea of Russellville; three granddaughters, Christy Leavell of Russellville, Michelle Gilleran of Conway, and Melissa Belz of Naples, Florida; and four great grandchildren, Paige and Mallory Leavell of Russellville and Matthew and Nicholas Gilleran of Conway.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, at the Elsworth Cemetery at Midway with Rev. Don Erwin officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service.

Honorary pallbearers are Lance Leavell and Shawn Gilleran.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association; 320 North Greenwood Avenue, Fort Smith, Ar. 72901.

Courtney George

Courtney Lee Ann George, 17, of Pottsville, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, at Russellville.

She was born April 4, 1987, at Little Rock to Raymond Burton George and Kathie Diane Boucher Norris. She attended Pottsville Schools through the eleventh grade, when she began home schooling. She attended and was baptized at First Assembly of God at Russellville. She enjoyed baseball, softball, and basketball.

She was preceded in death by her father; and paternal great grandparents, Troy and Marjorie George.

Survivors include her paternal grandparents and lifelong guardians, David and Shelby George of Pottsville; her mother, Kathie Norris of Sherwood; a sister, Whitney George of Pottsville; maternal grandmother, Norma Davis of Sherwood; an aunt, Lee Ann George of Pottsville; an uncle and aunt, William and Susie George of Pottsville; a great aunt, Selma Vines of Paron; four cousins, Taylor, Garrett, Jillian, and Kennith George all of Pottsville; and a close and dear friend, Theresa McPherson.

Funeral services were Saturday at Shinn Chapel with the Rev. Paul Northcut officiating. Burial was in Rest Haven Memorial Park at Russellville under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service.

Active pallbearers were Kennith George, Dustin Colvin, Frankie Colvin, Steven Turner, Steven Colvin, and Jimmy Hart. Honorary pallbearer will be Bill George.

Golda Harris

Golda Matthews Harris, 87, of Morrilton passed away Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005. She was affectionately known as "Green" by her grandchildren and other family and friends. Golda was born July 16, 1917, in Aplin, one of nine children born to Dr. James Monroe Matthews, a prominent physician who served both Conway and Perry Counties for many years, and Charlotte Minerva Thedford Matthews. She was the widow of Robert D. Harris, Sr.

Golda graduated from Harding Academy in Morrilton and Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., where she earned BS and RN degrees. While working in Arkadelphia as the administrator of the Public Health Department in Clark County, she met and married "Bob" Harris. Following WWII, they moved to Morrilton and bought what became Harris Funeral Home. She was one of the first in Arkansas to receive her funeral director’s license, being issued license #231, following her husband’s being issued as license #230. Golda was a prominent figure sitting behind her desk in the office of the funeral home for more than 58 years. She retired at age 87.

Golda was a member of the First Baptist Church of Morrilton. She was an avid reader and collector and enjoyed other pursuits such as entertaining family and friends, traveling, traveling, bridge club, and membership in the Antique Automobile Club of Little Rock. She and her husband were instrumental in the development and growth of the Antique Automobile Museum on Petit Jean Mountain.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Robert D. Harris, Jr. and Michelle of Morrilton; two daughters, Emily Dockery of Solgohachia and daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Eddy Guinn of Plumerville; one sister, Jean Peck of Morrilton; five grandchildren, Susan Dumas and husband, Paul; Amy Cooper and husband, Robert; Janna, Justin, and Haylee Harris; seven great-grandchildren, Taylor and Abby Edwards, Witt and Greyson Dumas, and Bob, Ian, and Zack Cooper.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Brown officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church and Conway County Library.

Wilma Lois Heathcock

Wilma Lois Heathcock, 88, of Lakewood, Co., formerly of Effingham, Ill. and Hector, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005, at the Allison Care Center in Lakewood.

A daughter of the late John Dorman and Rachel Williams Bailey, she was born March 28, 1916 in Hector. She had taught school for over thirty years, and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Othol Heathcock.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Dr. David Glasscock, and two grandsons and two great-granddaughters, all of Denver, Co.; a brother, Carl Bailey of California; and a sister, Helen Story of Russellville.

Graveside service and burial were Saturday, at Boiling Springs Cemetery near Hector with Rev. David Carpenter officiating. Arrangements were by Shinn Funeral Service.

Beatrice "Bea" Hughes

Beatrice "Bea" Hughes, 85, of Clarksville, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, at the Johnson Regional Medical Center in Clarksville.

A daughter of the late Dowen D. and Cary Hogan Dunsworth, she was born Oct. 13, 1919 in Van Buren County, Ark. She was a retired beautician and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Knoxville.

Survivors include her husband of forty-two years, Robert Gordon Hughes; two step-sons, Robert Jerry Hughes of Oceola, Ark. and Larry Dean Hughes of Dover; a step-daughter, Arlia Mae Thomas of Russellville; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Graveside service and burial was Thursday at Rest Haven Memorial Park by Rev. Ira Taylor. Service arrangements were by Shinn Funeral Service.

LeJune Thomas

LeJune Thomas, 81, passed away Friday, Jan. 21, 2005, in a St. Joseph, Mo., hospital.

She had resided at Vintage Gardens Assisted Living in St. Joseph since August 2004.

LeJune was born Dec. 6, 1923, in Pottsville to Chalmers and Agnes Whittington Oates. She graduated from Pottsville High School and attended Arkansas Tech University in Russellville.

On Dec. 26, 1946, she married Leroy Thomas of Russellville. He passed away in July 2000. Her daughter, Debra, also preceded her in death in 2004.

LeJune was a member of the First Christian Church in Fort Smith where she was active in the church circle. She had been a member of the DAR and spent several years researching the family genealogy.

She is survived by sons Michael and his wife, Suzanne of St. Joseph, Win and wife, Jane of West Lebanon, Ind.; son-in-law Wade Seyfried of Joshua, Tex.; and grandchildren, Michael, Timothy and Molly Thomas, Clark and Ashley Thomas and Jean, Thomas and Renee Seyfried.

Funeral services was at the First Christian Church in Fort Smith, with intermenty at Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Youth Bible Fund through the First Christian Church of Fort Smith.

Homer Bosold

Homer G. Bosold, 93, a resident of Russellville and formerly of Reading, Penn., died Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Russellville.

He was born March 10, 1911, at Reading, to Henry A. and Sara A. Gilbert Bosold. He retired from Car Tech Corp. in Reading, where he worked as a tow motor operator, in 1975. He was a member of the Reading Moravian Church. He was a lifetime member of Patriots of America, Camp 68 and the Berks County Fireman’s Association and Goodwill Fire Company in Hyde Park, Penn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Elizabeth E. Brown Bosold.

Survivors include a son, Harold C. Bosold of Womelsdorf, Penn.; a brother, Lester H. Bosold of Leesport, Penn.; three grandsons, Michael Bosold of Lamar, Jeff Bosold of Russellville, and Kevin Bosold of Cameron Park, Calif.; two granddaughters, Lori Williams of Saltillo, Miss. and Debby Vire of Clarksville; and ten great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 11 at the Reading Moravian Church in Reading, Penn. with Rev. Barbara Rich officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park at Reading under the direction of Bean Funeral Home of Shillington, Pennsylvania.

Memorials may be made to the Reading Moravian Church, 1116 Perry Street, Reading, Penn. 19604 or Arkansas Department of Health Hospice, 404 North El Paso Ave., Russellville, Ar. 72801.

Kathleen Collins

Kathleen Davis Knight Collins, 95, of Russellville, formerly of Darlington and Greenwood, SC, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005 at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

A daughter of the late John Wallace and Novella Chaplin Davis, she was born April 11, 1909 in Bishopville, Lee County, SC.

She was the widow of Clifton H. Knight and Robert Stuart Collins, and had been a homemaker for the past forty years. Previous to that she was an employee of the former Railway Express Agency in Darlington and the Greenwood Telephone Company. She was a graduate of Limestone College in Gaffney, SC, a charter member of the Darlington Order of the Eastern Star and a Baptist.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include her son, Clifton H. Knight Jr., and his wife, Helen, of Eden, NC; her daughter, Barbara Knight Henley and her husband, William J. Henley, of Russellville; six grandchildren and spouses: Kathleen K. Gammons husband, Victor, of West Jefferson, NC, Clifton H. Knight III and wife, Tammy, of Concord, NC, Leland K. Slaughter and husband, Rodney, of Eden, NC, Helen K. Blackwell and husband, Gerald, of Matthews, NC, Steven J. Henley and wife, Sharon, of North Little Rock, and William J. Henley IV and wife, Roberta, of Russellville; and six great-grandchildren.

The family will conduct a graveside memorial service in Lydia, SC, at a later date. Local arrangements are by Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mount Eleon Baptist Church, Lydia, South Carolina; or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Edward Duvall

Edward Royal Duvall, 71, of Atkins died Saturday Feb. 5, 2005, at his home.

He was born Jan. 21, 1934, in the Buttermilk Community in Pope County and was the son of the late Willie and Nancy May Duvall. He was a retired carpenter.

One brother, Doyle Duvall; one sister, Jewell Duvall, and three nephews also preceded him in death.

Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Athelene and James Lewallen of Atkins.

Graveside services and burial were Tuesday at Bewley Cemetery with Rev. C. W. Henderson and Rev. Burl Blankenship officiating. Arrangements were by Lemley Funeral Service.

Active pallbearers were Terry Lewallen, Jessie Eaton, Jimmy Duvall, Terry Daniel, Tommy Bratton and Wayne Pope.

Honorary bearers were Floyd Byrum, Danny Duvall, Jack Duvall and Jason Henderson.

Margaret Hardgrave

Margaret Hardgrave, 74, from the community of Flat Rock, entered the presence of the Lord surrounded by her family, Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at Cox Memorial Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.

She was born Oct. 26, 1930, at Clarksville to the late Dee and Roxie Whorton.

She was preceded in death by family members Charles "Buddy" Climer, Willie B. Whorton, Joyce Price , and Nathaniel Climer.

Survivors include her husband, Leonard Hardgrave; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Charlie and Becky Climer, Robert Climer, Gary and Debbie Climber, and Leonard Earl Hardgrave; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Jeannie Elder, Janet and Max Falls, Cheryl and Michael Prock, Cindy and Sterling Wilson; three step-children, Anna Wilson, Brenda Francis, and Maureen Hardgrave; 20 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a brother, Frank Whorton; and three sisters, Sena Parsons, Lois Tucker, and Pat Carothers.

A family conducted memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005, at the Flat Rock Assembly of God.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Margaret Hardgrave to the Gideons or Flat Rock Assembly of God Building Fund.

Arrangements are by Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.

Yvonne Tipton

Yvonne Betty Tipton, 72, of Russellville, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at Legacy Lodge Nursing Home.

A daughter of the late S. A. and Johnnie Lee Lisenby Cochran, she was born Jan. 12, 1933, in Geneva County, Ala. She was a retired beautician and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in El Paso, Texas.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Melba Blakley.

Survivors include a son, Ronald M. Tipton of Tampa, Fla.; two daughters, Evelyn Chronister of London; and Sandra K. Overly of Columbus, Ga.; five grandchildren, Eric Chronister, Amanda Tipton and Josh, Cody and Brittney Overly; and four great-grandchildren, Dylan and Brooklyn Chronister and Chloe and Haley Tipton.

The family will conduct a memorial service at a later time in Georgia. Local arrangements are by Shinn Funeral Service.

Gladys M. Williams

Gladys M. Williams, 81, of Russellville died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at her home. She was born Dec. 30, 1923, at Hector to Loddie Carl and Tempie Alma McAlister Bowden.

She was a member of the D. A. V. Auxiliary, the Gravel Hill Church of Christ and was retired from General Foods in Kankakee, Ill. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, collecting angels and the outdoors.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl H. Williams; a daughter, Mary Sue Williams; a son, Billy L. Williams; and nine brothers and sisters.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Kathy Williams of Chebanse, Ill., Johnny and Gloria Williams of Chebanse, Ill. and Frank and Cindy Williams of Kansas City, Mo.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Carolyn and David Donahue of Elgin, S. C., Shirley and Rodney Evans of Houston, Texas, and Sandy Williams of Atkins; two brothers, Glen Dean Bowden of Dardanelle and Henry Otho Bowden of Russellville; a sister, Vera Standridge of Scotland, Ark.; 29 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Graveside service wasTuesday, Feb. 8, at the Walnut Grove Cemetery at Hector with Mr. Bill Roderick officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.

Active pallbearers were Mrs. Williams’ grandsons, Chad Williams, Jason Breitbarth, David Weedon, Anthony Weedon, Terry Weedon, Kim Weedon, Steven Williams, Michael Williams, William Williams and David Donahue, II. Honorary pallbearer was Johnny Williams, II.

Memorials may be made to the Arkansas Department of Health Hospice, 404 North El Paso Ave., Russellville, AR 72801.

Vena Mae Lewis

Vena Mae Lewis, 81, of Dover (for 34 years) died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, at Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock.

The daughter of John and Susie (Ayres) Tubbs, she was born Oct, 2, 1923, in Corinth, Miss. She was a homemaker and a member of the Pleasant Grove Assembly of God Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Russell Lewis, Jr. and was also preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Kenneth H. Stocks, III; four sisters; and two brothers.

Survivors include two daughters, Jean Cuicchi of Downey, Calif. and Shirley Hartley of Vicksburg, Miss.; two sons, James Russell Lewis, III of Highlands, N.C. and Bill "Rocky" Lewis of Dover; five grandchildren, Michael Cuicchi of Canyon Lake, Calif., Leanne Cuicchi of Corona, Calif., Jason Stocks of Hattiesburg, Miss., Valerie Lewis of Dover and David Lewis of Dover; three great-grandchildren, Brittany Stocks of Vicksburg, Miss., Trevor Cuicchi and Austin Cuicchi of Canyon Lake, Calif.; one brother, James Henry Tubbs of Colorado; and one sister, Lou Richardson of Texas;. and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral and Burial will be 12 p.m. Wednesday (today) at Pollard Cemetery at Dover. Rev. Jackie Pledger will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service.
