Rannel Cargile

Rannel Cargile, 83, of Altus died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Crawford Veteran Health and Rehabilitation Center in Van Buren.
He was a native of the Whippoorwill Community, son of the late Frank and Mary Owens Cargile, member of Altus First Baptist Church, disabled World War II Army veteran, and served as a medical technician in the South Pacific. He was the recipient of the American Theatre Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star and the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with three Bronze Stars.
Survivors include his widow, Leona White Cargile; two daughters, Ann Underwood of Barling and Peggy Johnson of Longview, Texas; three sons, Amos Fowler and Joe Fowler, both of Longview, Texas, and Bill Fowler of Alix; one sister, Pauline Farmer of Fort Smith; one brother, O. D. Hopper of Ozark; 13 grandchildren, Josh Underwood of Fort Smith, Lance Fowler and Renae Fowler, both of Alix, Darrell Fowler, Bobby Johnson, Torrie Leath, Karla Fowler, David Fowler, Billy Johnson, and Don Fowler, all of Longview, Texas, David Fowler of Clarksville, Allen Fowler of Ozark, and Becky Fowler of Austin, Texas; and ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, at the Altus First Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Soucy officiating.
Burial was in Houston cemetery at Alix under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Bob Kinney, Carl Vendel, C. A. Kuykendall, Ted Skolarski, Relus Sosebee, and George Flegel.
Honorary pallbearers were Josh Underwood, Lonnie Turner, James Abbott, Bettis Alston, Dan Miller, Pete Williams, Peck Sanders, Stanley Coyle, Thurman Childers, and Bob Brown.

Ruth W. Miesner

Ruth Ellen Williams Miesner, 53, of Mountainburg died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, in Van Buren.
She was a 1966 graduate of Coal Hill High School, a 1970 licensed practical nurse graduate of Arkansas Valley Technical Institute, a 1984 cosmetology graduate of Arkansas Valley Technical Institute, member of the Church of Christ, a licensed practical nurse at Cedar Ridge near Alma, daughter of the late Cecil D. Wathern, native of Rock Springs, Wyo., and was preceded in death by one daughter, Gena Williams.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Miesner; mother, Claudia Higdon Wathern of Alix; one daughter and son-in-law, Janie (Williams) and Larry Langley of Alma; one stepson, Joe Miesner Jr. of Fort Smith; one stepdaughter, Melanie Salnis of Fort Smith; two sisters, Jamie Edgar and Jane Meeler of Alix; eight grandchildren including Kayla, Jordan and Perry Langley of Alma; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation and memorial services were held from 5-9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, with cremation under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.

Shane Bass

Shane Bass, 44, of Ozark died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, in a Fort Smith hospital.
He was a native of Ozark, son of the late Floyd Bass, member of the First United Methodist Church in Ozark and employed as an electronic technician for Tyson Foods.
Survivors include his widow, Rell Bass; four daughters, Kim Timmerman and Leslee Post of Altus, Jaime Milam of Hartman and Sara Milam of Altus; mother, Onita Bass of Ozark; two brothers, Stephen Bass of Cooper City, Fla., and Tim Bass of Fort Smith; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, at the First United Methodist Church in Ozark with Rev. Roger Glover officiating.
Burial was in Highland cemetery under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
Pallbearers were Dallas Anderson, Homer Whitson, Sam Rainwater, Eric Ahne, Erine Mellon, and John Geels.

Sharon E. McConnell

Sharon E. McConnell, 59, of Dover died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at her home.
She was a native of Clearsprings, Mo., former resident of Carthage, Mo., former personnel administrator for Fred's Frozen Foods of Carthage, Mo., member of the First Christian Church of Carthage, Mo., attended Dover Cumberland Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Dover Garden Club.
Survivors include her husband, Denzil W. McConnell; one son and daughter-in-law, Chance and Jackie McConnell of Dover; twin daughters and sons-in-law, Pammy and Mike Lunn of Clarksville and Tammy and Lyndel Navarro of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; parents, John E. and Velma Sherrill Houston of Carthage, Mo.; one sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Tom Periman of Carthage, Mo.; six grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, at Shinn Funeral Home in Russellville. A second visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, at Knell Mortuary in Carthage, Mo. Graveside services and burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19, at Oak Hill cemetery in Carthage, Mo.
Memorials may be made to the AAA Hospice, 103 W. Parkway, Suite 2A, Russellville, AR 72801.

Stanley Holt

Stanley Holt, 46, of Clarksville died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001.
He was preceded in death by grandfathers, Lawyer Polk and Freddie Holt Sr.; and grandmother, Selia Ice Holt.
Survivors include one daughter, Danyelle Hawkins; two sons, Shawn and Stanley Holt Jr.; father, Freddie Lee Holt; mother, Jeraldine Polk Williams; five sisters, Fredina and Chiquita Holt, Tammy Massey, Charolette Jimerson and Peggy Williams; three brothers, Anthony Holt, Garland Holt and Terry Jimerson; two stepbrothers, Vincent White and Rashawn Jackson; one stepsister, Iretha Burlington; and grandmother, Daisy Polk.
Funeral will be at 12 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, at New Bethel AME, 201 E. 16th Street in Stuttgart.
Visitation will be from 12:30-6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, at Gunn Funeral Home Chapel at 301 College Street in Stuttgart.

Charles D. Abercrombie

Charles Dean Abercrombie, 58, of Ozark died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at Clarksville.
He was a native of the Grenade's Chapel Community, son of the late John H. Abercrombie, a welder, member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, VFW, and Eagles, and a veteran of the U. S. Army and U. S. Navy.
Survivors include his widow, Doris Jean Boyd Abercrombie; one son, Harold Dean Abercrombie of Hartman; mother, Annie Pledger Abercrombie of Clarksville; and two sisters, Shirley Boling of Clarksville and Ruby Bradford of Clinton.
Rosary was at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at Shaffer Funeral Home in Ozark. Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Hilary Filiatreau officiating. Burial was in Jackson cemetery north of Ozark.
Active pallbearers were Otto Wall, Ben Yates, Dee Yates, Walter Rinke, Dale McGee, and Cliff Roberts.
Honorary pallbearers were Joe Thomas, Vernon Vire, Morris Boseman, Dwight Regan, Richard Doss, and Harold Jennings.

Allen Christopher Keith

Allen Christopher Keith, 28, of Hartman died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home from injuries sustained in a construction site accident near the 49 mile marker on Interstate I-40 on Nov. 14, 2000.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Janet and Randall Downen of Hartman; father and stepmother, Allen and Tressa Keith of Clarksville; two brothers, Jeff Keith of Clarksville and Jason Keith of Hartman; three stepsisters, Stacie Downen of Hartman, Jennifer Collier of Lamar, and Sherry Graham of Missouri; two stepbrothers, Brian Downen of Lamar and Nathan Downen of Hartman; grandparents, Edna Morrow of Lamar and the late John Morrow, Alvin Keith of Lamar and the late Hettie Keith; two nieces; and one nephew.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial was in Holman cemetery.
Pallbearers were David Alcorn, Paul Gene, Johnny Keith Morrow, Eric McCormick, Paul Lewis Kendrick, and Teddy Morrow.

Dorothy T. Edwards

Dorothy Thompson Edwards, 72, of Clarksville, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith.
She was a native of Clarksville, daughter of the late Jess Thompson Sr., widow of Joseph B. Edwards, 1947 graduate of Clarksville High School and attended the University of the Ozarks for two years, former resident of Fort Smith, member of the First Baptist Church in Fort Smith, and a former employee of Arkansas Medical Society in Fort Smith.
Survivors include her mother, Eleonora Thompson of Clarksville; three sisters, Mary Henderson of Rogers, Anna Brewer of Tulsa, Okla., and Barbara Wilson of Clarksville; two brothers, Jess Thompson Jr. of Clarksville and Raymond Thompson of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial were at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at Forest Park cemetery in Fort Smith with Rev. Dale Thompson officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Dexter B. Self

Dexter B. Self, 89, of Ozark died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at Mercy Hospital/Turner Memorial in Ozark.
He was a retired employee of Eureka Brick and Tile, Army veteran of World War II, native of Newton County, son of the late Jake and Velta McKnight Self, and was preceded in death by his wife, Alta Self.
He is survived by two daughters, Brenda Brison and Reba Bankston, both of Ozark; one sister, Mabel McIntire of Brookville, Fla.; one brother, Gorman Self of Anderson, Ind.; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jan Akins officiating. Burial was in Mt. View cemetery at Ozark.
Pallbearers were Paul Stacy, Larry Stacy, Charles Stacy, Gordon McCain, Herbert Watson, and Johnny D. Brison.
