Juanita Phillips
Juanita Phillips, 90, of Hartman died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, at Mercy Hospital/Turner Memorial in Ozark.
A native of the Springhill Community, she was a daughter of the late Clint and Bonnie Mickel Geisler, widow of George Phillips, graduate of Hartman High School, retired laboratory technician, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Curt Conde of Little Rock; two sons, Jim Phillips and Danny Phillips, both of Hartman; one brother, Mick Geisler of Clarksville; and two grandchildren, Tracy Phillips of Hot Springs and Clint Morland of Little Rock.
Graveside services and burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, at the Kendall cemetery with Rev. Lance Jones officiating.

Lester H. Woodard
Lester H. Woodard, 86, of Clarksville died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a son of the late David and Samantha Burns Woodard, retired Eureka Brick and Tile Company employee, World War II Army veteran, Baptist, and was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Chavers Woodard.
Survivors include his daughter, Fran Beech of Clarksville; one son, William Woodard of Clarksville; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Sally Ladd and Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial was in Knoxville cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jerry Woodard, Paul Woodward, Eddie Spencer, Charles Don Woodard, Phil Woodard, and J. T. Woodard.
Dylan Lindale Gilmer
Dylan Lindale Marshall Gilmer, seven-month-old son of Joni Lea Schabell and Charles Henry Gilmer Jr. of Coal Hill, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
Other survivors include one sister, Kaylynn Gilmer of Coal Hill; three brothers, Randal Schabell and David Schabell, both of the home, and Charles Thomas Gilmer of Coal Hill; grandparents, Sam and Barbara Brewer of Clarksville, Johnny and Myra Relaford of Lonoke, Charles and Nelda Gilmer of Ferriday, La., and Peggy and Jim Chaney of Lufkin, Texas; great-grandparents, Betty Vantress and Alvin Lloyd, both of Humnoke and Syble Griffin of Ferriday, La.; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Wyatt Tucker Stepp
Wyatt Tucker Stepp, six-month-old son of Kenneth and Betty Rose Stepp of Clarksville, died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, at his home.
Other survivors include two sisters, Fantaisha Carol Stepp and Janie Lee Stepp, both of the home; and grandparents, Corolyn Woods of Clarksville, the late Walter Woodward, Phyllis Dalton and George Dalton of Clarksville, and the late Gary Stepp.
Graveside services and burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, at the Spadra cemetery with Rev. David Zeiler officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Austin T. Walker
Austin T. Walker, 88, of Clarksville died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
A native of Franklin in Izard County, he was a son of the late Marvin and Doshie Wadley Walker, a retired machinist, carpenter, and fiddle player, and was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Walker.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, James and Wanda Walker of Clarksville; one daughter and son-in-law, Iris and Tom McAnally of Conway; one sister, Ena Clark of Fayetteville; two grandchildren, Laura Duke of Fayetteville and Terri Rhoades of Conway; three step-grandchildren, Gary Eckert of Minneapolis, Minn., Paul Eckert of Florida, and Nancy Kern of Clarksville; three great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; four nieces; and one nephew.
Graveside services and burial were at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, at Oakland cemetery with Leon Kern officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Helen Folkner
Graveside memorial services and interment for Helen Folkner, 68, of Coal Hill, who died July 9, 2001, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at the Mt. Vernon cemetery with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Hazel M. Sumner
Hazel Martin Huff Sumner, 87, of Ames, Okla., died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Enid, Okla.
She was a former resident of Clarksville, graduate of Clarksville High School, daughter of the late Arvie A. and Lovie Morgan Martin, member of the Ames (Oklahoma) Baptist Church where she taught the adult Sunday school class for 42 years and served as church clerk for 18 years, and was involved with the Happy Home Extension Club for several years. On Sept. 1, 1934, she married
Cliff Huff, who preceded her in death on Aug. 27, 1940, and on Dec. 24, 1942, she married
Wilkins David (W. D.) Sumner. She was also preceded in death by one son, William David (Bill) Sumner; three brothers; and three sisters.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Lyndell and Sondra Sumner of Denton, Texas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Marietta and K. D. Hoisington of Tryon, Okla., and Willetta and Jerry Patton of Wichita, Kan.; ten grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at Ames Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Thorpe officiating. Burial was in Ames cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the International Mission Board through the Ames Baptist Church in Ames, Okla.
Madeline E. Hickey
Madeline Elizabeth Hickey, 2, of Harrison died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001, in Chicago, Ill.
Survivors include her parents, Joseph and Adrienne Hickey; paternal grandparents, Joe and Kathy Hickey of Lamar; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Mike (Linda) Wilson of Fort Smith; paternal great-grandmothers, Virginia Shiras of Little Rock and Edna Hickey of Clarksville; maternal great-grandmother, Stella Fewell of Pawnee, Okla.; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Funeral was at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, at Central Presbyterian Church with burial at Oak cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers were Steve Schumacher, Chad Herbert, Timothy Stumbaugh, Russ Wilson, Christopher Gordon, and Clay Gordon.
Robert A. Bender
Robert A. Bender, 82, of Clarksville died Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Clarksville, son of the late Robert and Mary Eckart Bender, member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, and was owner and operator of Quality Food Market with Bernard Crabtree until he retired in October 1980. He served in the Second Armored Division in World War II in Europe, the recipient of three Purple Hearts for wounds he received in action with the most serious in The Battle of the Bulge, and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, the Disabled American Veterans, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Purple Heart Association. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Leo, Paul, and Henry; and one sister, Louise Jacobs Gisler.
Survivors include two nephews, Leon Jacobs of Grove, Okla., and Jim Jacobs of Germantown, Tenn.; and one niece, Mary Jo Rounsville of Fort Smith.
Rosary service was at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel. Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Rev. William Wewers, O. S. B., Rev. Placidus Eckart, O. S. B., and Abbot Jerome Kodell, O. S. B., officiating. Burial was in Holy Redeemer Catholic cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bernard Werner, Gene Raible, John Hilton, Scott Jacobs, Bert Killane, and Joseph Mayer.
William Eli Willis
William Eli Willis, 82, of Clarksville died Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at North Logan Mercy Hospital.
He was a son of the late Felix Monroe and Nancy Ann Bryson Willis, former employee of Joe Mills Lumber Company, member of Trinity Chapel Pentecostal Church of God, and was preceded in death by one sister, Annis Melson.
Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Sandra Dobbs of Clarksville and Danna and Daryl Wiseman of Waveland; one son, Michael Willis of Hot Springs; two granddaughters, Katy Lemasters of Waveland and Leah Dobbs of Clarksville; three sisters, Ollie Collins of Fort Smith, Melvina Martin of Evansville, and Sylvia Norman of Chandler, Okla.; and four brothers, Denver Willis of Batson, Dennis Willis of Oark, Ed Willis of Knoxville, and Levi Willis of Clarksville.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Terry Schlinker officiating. Burial will be in Porter cemetery at Hunt.
Pallbearers will be Larry Willis, George Willis, Doug Martin, Carroll Sherrill, Tom Willis, and Dwain Melson.
