Robert Lee Chavers
Robert Lee Chavers, 75, of Blackwell, Okla., father of Deborah Williams of Lamar, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at Blackwell Regional Hospital in Blackwell, Okla.
He was a retired Clarksville Foundry employee, member of the Christian Faith, and son of the late John Chavers and Tamsey Atwell Chavers.
Survivors include two other daughters, Linda Hunt of Ponca City, Okla., and Melissa Mead of Atkins; one son, Donald Lee Chavers of Ponca City, Okla.; two brothers, C. N. Chavers of Springdale and Walter Chavers of Ozark; and five grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at the Knoxville cemetery with Rev. James Shinn officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Stella Harvell
Stella Harvell, 83, of Paris, mother of Charles Harris of Lamar, died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004, in Fort Smith.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Ratcliff and daughter of the late Horace and Elizabeth Coffman Condley.
Survivors include her husband, Max Harvell; three daughters, Judy Johnson of Greenwood, Jean Johnson of Hackett and Patricia Pruett of Paris; two other sons, Larry Lawrence of Magazine and Gary Harvell of Greenwood; five sisters, Loreda Compas of Sikeston, Mo., Iva Fortner of Apache Junction, Ariz., Helen Blankenship of Bend, Ore., and Clarene McCoy and Shirley Johnson, both of Russellville; three brothers, Elbert Condley of Fresno, Calif., A. J. Coffman of Russellville, and Lewis Coffman of California; and several grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, at Roller Chapel in Paris with burial in Caulksville cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chuck Parsons, Steve Wooten, Jason Johnson, Paul Vinsant, Boyd Farmer, Kevin Farmer, and Shannon Farmer.
David Thompson
David Thompson, 76, of the Spadra Community died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, in Clarksville Convalescent Home.
He was a native of Jenny Lind, son of the late Joseph and Edna Jane Cambell Thompson, retired coal miner, and was preceded in death by one daughter, Jean Marie Thompson Halsema, and one brother, Leon Broach.
Survivors include his widow, Charlotte Thompson; two daughters, Diann Lancaster of Clarksville and Susan Thompson of Chipley, Fla.; four sons, Bob Krumdick of Austin, Texas, and Greg Krumdick, David Thompson and Jamie Thompson, all of Clarksville; five sisters, Wanda Low of Clarksville, Delma Pounder of El Cajon, Calif., Lily Bell East of Arvada, Colo., Imogene (Jeannie) Nausin of Fairfield, Calif., and Marilyn Rosales of Fort Collins, Colo.; two brothers, William Thompson of Clarksville and Paul East of Fort Collins, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, at the Spadra cemetery with Rev. David Zeiler officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Emma Faye Freeman
mma Faye Smith Freeman, 58, of Lamar died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004, at her home.
She was a daughter of the late B. A. Smith and was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Bramel, and one foster brother, Roland Davis.
Survivors include her husband, Bobby Joe Freeman; one daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Jerry Boen of Lamar; one son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Christi Freeman of Lamar; mother, Lillie Smith of Lamar; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Anna and Levon Bean of Clarksville and Peggy and Emmett Corlew of Danville, Ala.; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Johnnie and Bertha Smith and Donald and Deloris Smith, all of Clarksville, Gary and Lou Ann Smith of Lamar, Jack and Johnnie Mae Smith of Springdale, and James B. and Anna Ruth Smith of Tulsa, Okla.; and seven grandchildren, Shannon Davidson, Ashley and Shouston Wood, Kayla Freeman, Jeffrey Boen, Laiken Boen, and Tameka Boen.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 9, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Bob Freeman officiating. Burial was in Hagarville cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Phillip Corlew, Tim Smith, John Freeman, B. J. Smith, Loyd Wayne Smith, and Shawn Freeman.
Honorary pallbearers were Randy Freeman, Jeremy Freeman and Ben Stepp.
Fred E. Snow Jr.
Fred E. Snow Jr., 83, of Van Buren, formerly of Clarksville, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, in Van Buren.
He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of the Baptist Church in Clarksville.
Survivors include his widow, Claudel Snow; two daughters, Theresa Snow of Riverside, Calif., and Cindy Young of Waldron; one sister, Lucy Park of Perryville; and four grandchildren.
Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, at Roselawn cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Harry R. McCracken
Harry R. McCracken, 80, of Clarksville died Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center in Fort Smith.
He was a son of the late Herman and Eva McCracken of Ozone, graduate of Clarksville High School, attended the University of the Ozarks, Army combat veteran of World War II having received the Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts, and other medals of commendation, retired rural mail carrier, member of the First United Methodist Church where he was a former Sunday school superintendent, 50-year member of Franklin Masonic Lodge No. 9 of Clarksville, former Clarksville School Board member and an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include his widow, Virginia McCracken; one son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Delores McCracken of Harrison; one brother, Dr. E. A. McCracken and wife, Jean, of Humphrey; two grandchildren, Faith McCasland of Camden and Rodney Thomason of Harrison; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 9, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Wingo officiating.
Burial was in Oakland cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Henry Walton, Sammy Wish, Jim Dickerson, Robert Bartlett, Charlie Plugge, and John A. Smith.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Friendship Sunday School Class.
John Wayne Turner
John Wayne Turner, 69, of Springdale died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at his home.
He was a native of Clarksville, son of the late John W. and Maude Spencer Turner, youngest of six children, served in the Army during the Korean War, moved to Springdale in 1960, where he owned and operated City Electric which is still family operated, was an entrepreneur and real estate investor, coin collector, fisherman, member of Community of Christ Church in Fayetteville, and was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alene Gipson Turner.
Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, John W. Turner and Stacy S. and April Turner, all of Springdale; one daughter, Terry Hardcastle of Springdale; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Sisco Funeral Chapel in Springdale with Elders John Rothwell and Frank Mendenhall officiating. Burial will be in Stuckey cemetery.
Lena Emma Birnbaum
Lena Emma Birnbaum, 97, of Russellville, formerly of Lamar, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at Russellville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was a native of Lamar, daughter of the late George Ludwig and Lena Alma Birkhahn Birnbaum, farmer, member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, and was preceded in death by two brothers, Louie Birnbaum and William Birnbaum, and one sister, Emma Marie Birnbaum.
Graveside services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, at the pavilion which she donated to the St. Paul cemetery near Lutherville with Rev. Herb Swanson and Rev. Mike Thurman officiating.
Burial was at St. Paul cemetery under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.
Lola A. Phillips
Lola A. Phillips, 98, of Clarksville died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004.
She was a native of Newton County, daughter of the late James Monroe and Tamer Carolin Wheeler Rutledge, member of the Church of Christ and in 1996 was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Claud Phillips.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Verda and Robert Bartlett of Clarksville; one sister, Ertie Light of Ramona, Calif.; four grandchildren, Linda Betnar, Jan Hilton and Robert Bartlett II, all of Clarksville, and Debra Wofford of Ozark; and four great-grandchildren, Kelly Betnar, T. J. Hilton, Melissa Ford, and Brock Bartlett; and two great-great-granddaughters, Tamer Ford and Callie Hilton.
Funeral was at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with David Coats officiating. Burial was in Oakland cemetery.
Pallbearers were Robert Bartlett II, Robert Wofford, Tim Hilton, T. J. Hilton, Danny Betnar and Ryan Ford.
Mildred T. Hall
On Thursday, February 5 Mildred Taylor Hall, who was a wife and helpmate to Heartsell Hall for over 60 years, a mother to four, a sister to eight and a life-long friend to the Clarksville community, peacefully entered her eternal life.
Her journey began on October 24, 1917, as the fifth child of Harve and Mattie Taylor of the Ludwig Community. Those who survive her include her husband, James Heartsell Hall, two daughters, Patty Stiles and her husband, Michael, of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Marilyn Crumbley and her husband, Bob, of Marietta, Georgia, and one son, John Michael Hall, and his wife, Brenda, of Clarksville.
Mildred was preceded in death by one child, James Edward Hall, who died at the age of four in 1949. Her surviving siblings include Juanita Deeds of Fowler, Colorado, Polly Kennon of Clarksville, and Anna Jane Warren of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Harve Taylor Jr., Bob B. Taylor, and Phil Taylor Sr., and her sister, Sue Nell Farris, all of Clarksville.
She is also survived by grandchildren, Nicholas Reed, Angela Meisner and Joshua Beerman and one great-granddaughter, Molly Reed. She was also "Aunt Mildred" to scores of nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law and in-heart to the wonderfully large and varied Taylor and Hall families for her entire life.
Mrs. Hall was a graduate of Clarksville High School and attended Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway and later received her degree from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. After teaching in both Guy and Fort Smith, Arkansas, she married
James Heartsell Hall in 1943.
Mildred was a member of the Hall's Men's Wear team for 29 years, a life-long member of the Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class there. She included the TTT Society in her social and service life and she and her husband Heartsell were charter members of the Supper Club social group. Mildred loved to dance and was an avid bridge player.
The service to celebrate her life was held on Saturday, February 7, at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Steve Wingo and Hardwicke Funeral Home coordinating the service. Interment was in Oakland cemetery in Clarksville. Memorials honoring her memory should be sent to the First United Methodist Church at PO Box 535 in Clarksville, Arkansas 72830.
Pallbearers were Robert Ed Farris, Lynn Farris, Harve Taylor, Tom M. Taylor, Jackie Cline, and Philip Taylor.
