Adrith Brian Cline
Adrith Brian Cline, 60, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at St. Luke's Hospital in Tulsa, Okla.
A former resident of the Spadra Community, he was a member of the U. S. Army from 1964-88 and had served duty in Germany, Korea and Greenland before retiring with the title of Sergeant First Class E 7. He later served 11 years for the U. S. Government, was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Indianapolis, Ind., and was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence (Percy) and Lucy Gean Cline of the Spadra Community; one brother, Clarence Cline Jr.; and two sisters, Evelyn Woolf and Iva Pebley.
Survivors include his widow, Avis Larson Cline; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Douglas and Candy Cline and Travis and Barbara Cline of Indianapolis, Ind., and Johnny Cline of Kentucky; two grandchildren, Eric and Amanda Cline of Indianapolis, Ind.; five sisters, Billy Gean McCullough of Madison, Fla., Betty Pearson of Greenville, Miss., Loweta Gallagher of Joplin, Mo., Sherry Kampman of Venice, Fla., and Sonja Roberts of Tulsa, Okla.; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
Military services will be held in Indianapolis, Ind.
Billy E. McKinney
Billy E. McKinney, 72, of Hartman died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at AMI St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville.
A native of Elkhart, Texas, he was a son of the late Charles Benjamin Harrison and Ollie Elizabeth Gilcrease McKinney, a Baptist, member of International Union of Operating Engineers and the American Legion, Korean War veteran, and was preceded in death by three brothers, Charlie, Donald and R. L. McKinney.
Survivors are his widow, Iva Page McKinney; two daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Joel James of Hartman and Cynthia and Larry McCollum of Russellville; one son and daughter-in-law, Timmy and Joan McKinney of Batesville; one sister, Whiladene Strait of Palestine, Texas; three brothers, D. C. McKinney of Lancaster, Texas, Mardease McKinney of Elkhart, Texas, and Hubert L. McKinney of Palestine, Texas; and six grandchildren, Amanda James, Robert James, Justin James, Andy McCollum, Jason McCollum, and Meredith McKinney.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 12, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with John Ballard officiating. Burial was in Shannon cemetery at Treat.
Pallbearers were Ronnie McKinney, Loail McKinney, Robert McKinney, Bob Page, Earl Page, and Ed Newsom.
Benjamin Light Sr.
enjamin Ray Light Sr., 62, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at his home in Bogalusa, La.
He was a native of Arkansas, former resident of Clarksville, and had been a resident of Bogalusa, La., for the past 18 years. While residing in Clarksville, he was involved in numerous organizations. He was an active member of the Clarksville Jaycees, served on the Clarksville City Council, held state offices with the Arkansas Hospital Association and served Johnson County Hospital as its administrator through the 1970s and early 1980s. Among his local accomplishments was the construction of the present Johnson Regional Medical Center facility which, under his direction, was planned, built and completed in 1975. He was also instrumental in the construction of the Clarksville Municipal Building while serving on the City Council. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cecilia Anne Strougal Light, and his parents, Cecil and Muriel Taylor Light.
Survivors include four sons, Benjamin Light Jr., John Light and Tim Light, all of Baton Rouge, La., and Quinton Light of Hawaii; one daughter, Cecilia Light of Chicago, Ill.; two grandsons, Benjamin Cory Light and Taylor Andrew Johnston; three brothers, Bill Light and Larry Light of Arkansas and Laddy Light of Kansas; two sisters, Jean Wood and Marilyn Archer of Arkansas; and caretakers, Sarah and Scott Davis.
Funeral was at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5, at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home with Father Laurence Phelps, O.S.B., officiating. Burial was in Ponemah cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Hibernia National Bank, Austin Street Branch.
Billy R. Mobley
Billy Ray Mobley, 72, of Fort Smith, formerly of Lamar, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at his home.
He was a native of Lamar, son of the late George and Melinda L. Sharp Mobley, valedictorian of the 1950 graduating class of Lamar High School, graduate of Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, Korean War veteran, delivered Meals On Wheels and did other volunteer work, and was preceded in death by one brother, Grant Mobley, and one sister, Vivian Carter.
He is survived by one son, Mark Mobley of Joplin, Mo.
Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, at Lamar cemetery with Rev. Michael Thurman officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Danny G. Brewer
Danny Gene Brewer, 50, of Van Buren, son of Vera Brewer of Clarksville, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, at his home.
He was a painter for West Ark Material Handling, a Baptist, and native of Van Buren.
Other survivors include his widow, Dianna Brewer; two daughters; three sons; three sisters; three brothers; and one grandchild.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, at Alma Full Gospel Outreach Church.
Burial was in Gregory cemetery at Alma under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
David Matlock
David Cooper Matlock, 57, of Altus, father of Rhonda Matlock of Clarksville, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, in a Fort Smith hospital.
He was a native of Clarksville, son of the late John and Gracie Snyder Matlock and a retired electrician.
He is survived by two other daughters, May Banhart of Altus and Francis Willoughby of Clinton; and two sons, George Banhart of Altus and Deworm Banhart of Blytheville.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with Rev. Mike Pennington officiating.
Honorary pallbearers were Eddie Pool, Hubert Jones, Tommy Dean Hanson, Tommy Zolliecoffer, and Shawn Estes.
Joan T. Schlaf
Joan Theresa Schlaf, 87, of Clarksville died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Clarksville and daughter of the late John and Frances Bauer Schlaf.
Survivors include three sisters, Maggie Kleck of Morrison Bluff, Marie Reid of Long Beach, Calif., and Carolyn Hubanks of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; one brother, Joseph Schlaf of Long Beach, Calif.; and 20 nieces and nephews.
Rosary was at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church at Morrison Bluff. Funeral was at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father William Wewers officiating.
Burial was in Saints Peter and Paul cemetery at Morrison Bluff under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Kenny Schlaf, Ricky Smith, Adrian Weisenfels, Brandt Tencleve, Jarod Kleck, and Brian Weisenfels.
Ruth B. Farmer
Ruth Boddie Farmer, 85, of Conway, mother of Pat Farmer of Clarksville, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004.
She was a native of Hot Springs, 1941 graduate of the University of the Ozarks and received a masters of science degree from Indiana University, member of the University of the Ozarks Alumni Board, Friends of Torreyson Library, and the Faulkner County Literacy Council, retired University of Central Arkansas librarian, an elder in the Presbyterian Church in Conway and was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, James Cecil Farmer.
Other survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Heber and Steve McKissack of Conway; three grandchildren, Marshall, Martin and Marie McKissack; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Friday, Jan. 9, at the First Presbyterian Church in Conway.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church in Conway, Woodland Heights Baptist Church in Conway, or the Ethel Adkins Farmer Drama Scholarship at the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville.
Victor Buchanan
Victor Byron Buchanan, 60, of Scranton died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004, at his home.
He was retired, member of Dublin Freewill Baptist Church, son of the late William Byron Buchanan, and preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey Scott Buchanan.
Survivors are his widow, Nancy C. Lindsey Buchanan; one daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Tommy Bull of Perryville; one son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Gail Buchanan of Scranton; mother, Gertrue M. Henry Buchanan of Russellville; one sister and brother-in-law, Jan and Rich Leonard of Leawood, Kan.; one brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Gretchen Buchanan of Prairie Village, Kan.; and six grandchildren, Samantha Bull of Perryville, and Chris, Lacey, Jacob, David and Andrew Buchanan, all of Scranton.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Shane Kasper officiating. Burial was in Old Baptist cemetery at Center Valley.
Active pallbearers were Thomas Needham, Jim Snow, Gene Brady, Neal Green, Ricky White, and Randy Young.
Honorary pallbearers were Johnnie Blamey and Larry Brown.
