Almer Fritchey
Almer Joseph Fritchey, 86, of Van Buren died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at his home. He was a retired minister of the Assemblies of God, a member of National Republican Party and several civic organizations.
He is survived by his wife, Anna; two sons, Richard Leon Fritchey of Liberty, Mo., and Jon Fritchey of Van Buren; a sister, Margaret Thomas of Van Buren; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be Eugene Burkett, Johnny, Charles, Jon and Richard Fritchey Jr., David and James Flippin.
Honorary pallbearers will be ministers of the Assemblies of God.
The family will visit with friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Jane Bowman
Jane Bowman, 86, of Mountainburg died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at a local hospital. She was a member of Mountainburg Presbyterian Church, retired owner and operator of Jane’s Cafe in Mountainburg and the widow of Floyd Bowman.
She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Cochran of Mountainburg; two sons, Ronald Creekmore and John Salyer, both of Mountainburg; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Jan. 29 at Mountainburg Presbyterian Church with burial at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Pallbearers were Kyle Salyer, Steve and Danny Cochran, Britain White, Brent Burney, Danny Hight, Charles Shelly and Mike Anderson.

Jonathan Davis
Jonathan Brandon Davis, 21, of Rudy died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, near Rudy. He was an employee of Arkansas Carbide Co. and attended Van Buren First Assembly of God Church.
He is survived by his mother, Debra K. Davis of Rudy; his father, William Edward Davis of Delhi, La.; one brother, Eddie Davis of Rudy; and his maternal grandparents, Elmer N. and Frela Mae Walden of Rudy.
Funeral service was held Jan. 29 at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Morrison Cemetery near Rudy.
Pallbearers were Jerald Stone, Tommy Walden, Randy Bilyeu, Robert Wayne, James Davis, Eric Walden and Josh and Chris Niles.

Eva Hinman
Eva Williams Hinman, 90, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at a local nursing home. She was a member of the 43 Assembly of God Church, homemaker and widow of Elbert Williams.
Survivors include two daughters, Gracie Bell Small of Piggs, Okla., and Beulah Berry of Van Buren; four sons, Thurman Willliams, Gene Williams and Hershell Williams, all of Van Buren, and Dean Williams of Oklahoma City; 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Jan. 29 at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren. Burial was at Dripping Springs Cemetery near Uniontown under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Melvin Williams, Dwight Small, J.T. McMaster, Lenard Vazzie, Phillip Williams and Bill Rhynes.

Steven Syrock
Steven A. Syrock, 40, of Van Buren died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at his home. He was a retired manager of Guard Tronics and a member of the Bethlehem Freewill Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Rainwater Syrock; a daughter, Hannah Syrock of the home; and a sister, Sherry Clees of Albuquerque, N.M.
Funeral service was held Jan. 28 at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Allison Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Paul, Kenny and David Summerhill, Terry Syrock, Larry and Robert White and Tommy Don Wilson.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem Freewill Baptist Church Building Fund, 2721 Alma Blvd., Van Buren, AR 72956.

Morris Phillips
Morris Phillips, 61, of Alma died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, in Alma. He was a self-employed painting contractor.
Funeral service was held Jan. 27 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Evergreen Cemetery in Alma.
He is survived by a daughter, Gail Coffman of Borger, Texas; two sons, Alfred Morris Phillips of Charleston and Gary Wayne Phillips of Boston; two sisters, Edith Lee of Georgiana, Ala., and Jeanette Duffle of Panama City, Fla.; five grandchildren.

Cleo Garrison
Cleo Bell Garrison, 89, of Van Buren died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at a local hospital. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by a brother, Ben Jones of Van Buren, and a niece and nephews.
Funeral service was held Jan. 28 at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Fairview Cemetery in Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Raymond and Ben W. Jones, Bill Marion, Batch Parks Richard Strite and Phillip Richardson.

Jack Chambers
Jack Chambers, 63, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, in Fort Smith. He was a retired water maintenance supervisor for the City of Fort Smith, was of the Pentecostal faith and attended River of Life Church.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; a daughter, Cynthia Jarrard of Van Buren; a son, Jack Chambers Jr. Van Buren; three sisters, Betty Buckner of Charleston and Joyce Lishbrook and Sarah Sugg, both of Fort Smith; three brothers, John Chambers of Hackett, Ray Chambers of Van Buren and Bud Chambers of Fort Smith; and one grandchild.
Funeral service was held Jan. 25 at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith.
Pallbearers were Gary Brooks, Ken Leakey, Bobby Barker, Doug Mizell, Darrell Borum and Kendall Newberry.

Jimmy Clayborn
Jimmy Clayborn, 57, of Mansfield died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at a Fort Smith hospital. He was a construction manager for AOG and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; a daughter, Robbin Heidelberg of Natural Dam; three stepdaughters, Bettina Brown of Van Buren, Dena Champion of Paris and Angela Ward of Huntington; a stepson, Bruce Yandell of Waldron; his mother, Ruby Clayborn of Rudy; five sisters, Connie Bernier of Rudy, Bonnie Knick and Donnie Bradley, both of Clarksville, Geneva Carlton of Fayetteville and Ora Lou Aichele of Charleston, S.C.; three brothers, Fred Clayborn of Russellville, Tommy and Danny Clayborn, both of Clarksville; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Jan. 25 at Huntington Assembly of God with burial at Huntington City Cemetery under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
Pallbearers were Terry Wallace, Lester Ford, Johnny Wells, Larry Dake, Travis Walton and Tony Sharp.

Pauline Toon
Pauline Toon, 89, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at a nursing home. She was a retired seamstress for Southerland Furniture and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry Toon Sr. and Paul Toon, both of Van Buren, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside service was held Jan. 29 at Forest Park Cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 2301 Midland Blvd., Fort Smith.

John W. Carty
John W. Carty, 76, of Mulberry died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at a Fort Smith Hospital. He was a retired teacher and administrator at Chaffin and Darby Junior High schools in Fort Smith, Ozark, Mulberry and Rudy School districts and Fairbury, Ill. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and member of Mulberry United Methodist Church, Mulberry Lions Club, Arkansas Retired Teachers Association and Arkansas Farm Bureau.
Survivors include one son, Scott Carty of Fort Smith; three stepsons, Boyce Wofford and Tom Wofford, both of Alma, and Richard Wofford of Santiago, Chile; two sisters, Betty Eubanks of Little Rock and Mary Carty of Mulberry; one brother, Jim Carty of Collinsville, Okla.; two grandchildren and 10 step-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Jan. 29 at Mulberry United Methodist Church. A private Burial will be held Thursday under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home.

Marvin Briley
Marvin C. Briley, 83, of Van Buren died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at a local hospital. He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific. He retired after 26 years as a route salesman for Acee Milk Co. After his retirement, he worked at Yeager Hardware for five years. He was a member of Van Buren First Assembly of God Church, the widower of Wanda Testerman Briley and an avid fisherman.
Survivors include three daughters, Brenda Briley of Charleston, W.V., and Mary Shackleford and Judy Scott, both of Van Buren; two sons, Johnny Ragsdale of Van Buren and Larry Briley of Greenwood; three sisters, Faye Alice Brewer of Van Buren, Mary Watkins of Uniontown and Margarete Steeley of Oklahoma; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Jan. 25 at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren. Burial with military honors was at Gracelawn Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Johnny Jack, David Symonds, Duane Dyer, Duane Chadwick, Paul Brown and Dale Brown.

Patricia Rothwell
Patricia Pat A. Rothwell, 56, of Alma died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, in Alma. She attended Liberty Assembly of God.
Memorial service was held Jan. 23 at Fentress Mortuary Chapel in Fort Smith.
She is survived by a daughter, Vicki Rothwell of Van Buren; two sons, Jerry Rothwell of Alma and Jesse Rothwell of Muldrow; a sister, Elizabeth Duquette of Van Buren; three grandchildren, Kendra and Darian Rothwell and Kasey Copeland; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to Donald W. Reynolds Cancer Support House, 3324 South M St., Fort Smith, AR 72903.

Michael Loney
Michael Lee Loney, 53, of Mulberry died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at his home. He was born in Flint, Mich, was a graduate of Michigan State University, a Navy veteran, an electronic technician and a member of Eagles.
Memorial service was held Jan. 23 at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon of Ozark; three daughters, Isrea Loney of Muskegon, Mich., Jennifer Bolf of Flushing, Mich., and Jackie Waits of Springdale; two sons, Michael Loney II of Murrieta, Calif., and Jeremiah Loney of Mulberry; four sisters, Shirley Nichols of Birch Run, Mich., Patricia Loney of Reese, Mich., Susan Loney of Flint, Mich., and Catheryn Szrainskia of Indian River, Mich.; and 10 grandchildren.

Bertha Jordan
Bertha Mae Jordan, 94, of Mulberry died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, in Springdale. She was retired from general merchandising retailing and a member of Main Street Missionary Baptist Church, the Civic Club, PTA and Pleasant View Friendly Neighbors Club, all of Mulberry.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Jordan of Richardson, Texas, and Jackie Holiman of Springdale; and three grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Jan. 25 at Main Street Missionary Baptist Church in Mulberry with burial at New Cemetery in Mulberry.
Pallbearers were Mike, Randy and Brett Holiman, Bobby Crocker, Al and Ronnie Adams. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Pleasant View Friendly Neighbors Club.
Memorial contributions may be made to Circle of Life Hospice, 610 E. Emma, Springdale, AR 72765.

Arthur Painter
Arthur Ray Painter, 72, of Mountainburg died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, in Springdale. He was a diesel mechanic for Red Deer Construction Co., an Army veteran of the Korean War, a member of Masonic Lodge in Moab, Utah No. 30 and a 32nd degree Shriner in Fort Smith
He is survived by his wife, Maxine; two daughters, Lori Sims of Mountainburg and Pat Smith of Fort Smith; a son, Larry Johnson of Seattle; a brother, Ronnie Painter of Wallings, Ky.; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Jan. 25 at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel in Alma with burial at Bassham-Sims Cemetery in Mountainburg.
Pallbearers were Kaare, Kelly, Michael and Bobby West, Time Wilkinson and Chad Peaks.
