John B. Andrepont
John Burlick Andrepont, 77, of Scranton died Saturday, June 22, 2002, at the home of a son in Beaufort, S. C.
He was a native of Eunice, La., son of the late Bernard and Lorena LeBleu Andrepont, member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Scranton where he was an Eucharist minister and served in the Catchist ministry, and had a crayfish bait business prior to retiring.
He was an aerial gunner in the U. S. Army during World War II and served in the following battles and campaigns: New Guniea, Mandated Island Campaigns, Bismark Archipelago and Philippine Liberation. He was awarded the Bronze Star, the Battle Star, the Good Conduct Medal, the Purple Heart and the Philippines Liberation Ribbon.
Survivors include his widow, Rose Lopez Candanoza Andrepont; three sons, Timothy Andrepont of Beaufort, S. C., Martin Andrepont of Greenwood and Blaise Andrepont of Scranton; six daughters, Monica Steele of Van Buren, Angela Foster of Fayetteville, Ga., Martha Hughes of Pocola, Okla., Barbara Banning of Fort Smith, Mary Andrepont of Bellingham, Wash., and Benita Rodriguez of Springdale; two brothers, Burton Andrepont of Eunica, La., and Berchman Andrepont of Church Point, La.; three sisters, Margaret Simon of Cincinnati, Ohio, Madeline Terracina of Opelousas, La., and Gloria Fontenot of Lake Charles, La.; 19 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Rosary was at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, at Sisco Funeral Chapel in Springdale. Mass of Christiam Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, at St. Raphael's Catholic Church with Rev. Hilary Filiatreau officiating. Burial will be in the Bluff cemetery under the direction of Sisco Funeral Home of Springdale.
Loyd Vernon Terry
Loyd Vernon Terry, 82, of Clarksville died Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was retired from the board of education in Wichita, Kan., member of Spadra Baptist Church, son of the late James David and Nora Adams Terry, and was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara M. Terry; one son, Donald H. Terry; three sisters, Sarah, Lanora and Captola; and three brothers, Ben, Jim and Arlie.
Survivors include his widow, Helen May Johnson Terry; one daughter, Janis Joann Rowan of Missouri; two sons, Vernon H. Terry of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and Randy Loyd Terry of Clarksville; two brothers, Harvey Terry of Clarksville and Arvil Terry of Missouri; 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Friday, June 21, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Bob Oden officiating. Burial was in Knoxville cemetery.
Pallbearers were Randy L. Terry, Donnie Terry, Kenny Rowen, Jeff Whitson, Randy D. Terry, Charlie Davis, Dale Edward Cole II, Brandon Terry, and Darren Terry.
Maudie Tilley
Maudie Tilley, 88, of Ozark died Friday, June 14, 2002, in Fort Smith.
A native of Lamar, she was a daughter of the late Julius and Melissa Shipman Cowan, widow of Thurman Tilley, and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors are four daughters, Robbie Black and Wanda Sanford, both of Ozark, Chris Sooter of Possum Kingdom, Texas, and Gay Turner of San Angelo, Texas; one son, Marshall Tilley of Amarillo, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, June 17, at Calvary Baptist Church with Jim Young officiating.
Burial was at Dyer cemetery under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
Grandsons and sons-in-law served as pallbearers.
Violet L. Matthews
Violet Langston Matthews, 79, of El Paso, Texas, died Sunday, June 23, 2002.
A native of Hartman and daughter of the late William Langston and Clara Mae Chrisman, she graduated as a registered nurse from the St. Edward School of Nursing in Fort Smith in 1944, served in the United States Army as a First Lieutenant from 1945-47 and as a Captain from 1948-53, was a veteran of the Korean War and World War II during which she received the United Nations Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, the Army of Occupation Medal (Japan), the World War II Victory Medal, and the American Theater Ribbon, was a head nurse in the maternal and child health nursing section at William Beaumont General Hospital in El Paso, Texas, and in 1980 retired from civil service after 30 years. She was preceded in death by one son, Bobby G. Matthews.
Survivors include one daughter, Cheryl Lynne Hoobler; four grandchildren, Tiffany Ruiz, William Hoobler Jr., Mandilyn Matthews, and Jacquilyn Matthews; three great-grandchildren, Adrian Ruiz, Azsa Ruiz, and Anthony Ruiz; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be private.
Memorials may be made to Hospice.
Audrey T. Ballard
Audrey Tracey J. Ballard, 83, of Lamar died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at her home.
She was a daughter of the late Joseph and Agnes Burns Tracey, widow of William E. Ballard Jr., and a Catholic.
She is survived by one sister, Therese Glowaski of Elyria, Ohio; and two brothers, David Tracey of Elyria, Ohio, and Robert Tracey of Hendersonville, N. C.
A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 7, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Father William Wewers officiating. Burial was in Minnow Creek cemetery.
D. F. (Hoss) Mills
Chief Warrant Officer D. F. (Hoss) Mills, 68, of Clarksville died Thursday, June 6, 2002, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
A native of Scranton, he was a son of the late Richard and Jewell Walker Mills, a Mason, 1952 graduate of Clarksville High School, member of the Coal Hill VFW Post No. 8532, retired from the U. S. Army after 30 years of service, recipient of the National Defense Service Medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal Fourth Award, Vietnam Service Medal with Six Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Army Commendation Medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star Medal with Second Oak Leaf Cluster, Four Overseas Service Bars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, and Expert Rifle 16.
Survivors are two sisters and one brother-in-law, Alice and Bill Felkins and Cynthia English, all of Clarksville; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Louise Mills of Atkins; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. Thom Walker officiating. Burial was at Oakland cemetery.
Pallbearers were Sgt. Satterfield, Spc. Conley, Pfc. Campa, Pfc. Potter, Pfc. Norton, and Pvt. Runion.
Dessie Lorene Ross
Dessie Lorene Wells Ross, 74, of Clarksville passed away Saturday, June 8, 2002, at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith.
She was a native of Clarksville, daughter of the late Walton Rainey and Dessie Love Wells, 1946 graduate of Clarksville High School, and a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and Spadra Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Bennie Ross; one daughter and son-in-law, Betty Ann and Lee Roy Warren of Clarksville; two grandsons and spouses, Steve and Tracy Warren of Coal Hill and Richard and Tammy Warren of Clarksville; three great-grandchildren, Morgan Warren and Katie Warren, both of Coal Hill, and Michaela Warren of Houston, Texas; and one step-great-grandchild, Angie Stewart of Clarksville.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, at Westside Full Gospel Church with Rev. J. W. McEntyre officiating.
Burial was in West Mount Zion cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Spike Feikema, Gary Patterson, Rusty Hardgrave, Wesley Kendrick, David Handley, and John (Bud) Morrow.
Honorary pallbearers were Bill Nowotny and Frank Wacker.
Eileen Griffith
Funeral for Eileen Griffith, 81, of Fort Smith, who died Sunday, June 9, 2002, in Fort Smith will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, at First Christian Church of Fort Smith with burial in the Srygley cemetery at Coal Hill. Arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.

She was a retired secretary for the Fort Smith Public School System serving Beard, Cavanaugh, Cornell and Kimmons Junior High and was the recipient of the "Golden Apple Award" which is an award normally given to teachers only, member of the First Christian Church where she sang in the choir, volunteered, and visited shut-ins, member of the Daughters of the American Revoluntionary War, was the widow of Jack H. Griffith, and was preceded in death by one brother, George L. Morgan.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Connie E. and Steve Thomas of Fort Smith; one son and daughter-in-law, Jack M. and Sherry Griffith of Lamar; three brothers, Earl Morgan of Punta Gorda, Fla., Carl Morgan of Lamar, and Harold Morgan of St. Charles, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
John Mayfield
John (Dub) Mayfield, 69, of Altus died Thursday, June 6, 2002, at his home.
A native of Coal Hill, he was a son of the late Fate and Halie Hard Mayfield, a Baptist, Army veteran, and retired Whirlpool employee.
Survivors include his widow, Pauline Gray Mayfield; four sons, Donnie Mayfield, Randy Mayfield, Ricky Mayfield, and Billy Joe Mayfield, all of Altus; one sister, Georgia Mae Wolf; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with Rev. Forrest Wayne Primm officiating. Burial was in Coal Hill cemetery.
