Marjorie Crowder

Marjorie (Liz) Crowder, 63, of Knoxville died Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a Baptist, daughter of the late William Christopher and Winifred Mabel Pilley Herbert, and was preceded in death by one son, James Lee Crowder; and one sister, Patricia Herbert.
Survivors include two daughters, Virginia Sue Curtis of Clarksville and Karen Lyn Baars of Knoxville; two sisters, Christine Herbert and Mary Cherry, both of Windsor, England; one brother, John Herbert of Windsor, England; and six grandchildren, Gary Lee Curtis, Christopher Dale Curtis, Daniel Joseph Curtis, Jayme Lyn Baars, Kayla Rae Baars and Ashley Ann Baars.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 25, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial was in Lamar cemetery.
Pallbearers were Gary Curtis, Ray Baars, Gary Lee Curtis, Christopher Curtis, Daniel Curtis, and Brandon Haubert.

Mildred Huhner

Mildre Huhner, 95, of Litchfield, Minn., formerly of Clarksville, died Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at Emmanuel Home in Litchfield, Minn.
She was a native of Spadra, daughter of the late John H. and Josephine Mertens Werner, widow of William R. Huhner, member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church at Clarksville, attended Holy Redeemer Catholic School and Mount St. Mary's in Little Rock, graduated from St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing in Little Rock in 1928, former employee of St. Vincent in Little Rock and Clarksville Hospital prior to retiring in 1963, and was board certified in Arkansas and Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Louis Werner, John Werner Jr., and Francis Werner; one sister, Lillian Coor; and two sisters-in-law, Katherine Werner and Martha Werner.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, DaNiel and Donald Aschenbrenner of Tomah, Wis., and Gretchen and Conrad Werra of Wauwatosa, Wis.; one son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William R. (Carol) Huhner Jr. of Litchfield, Wis.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Josephine Werner and Mary and Al Lorfing, all of Clarksville; two brothers and one sister-in-law, William Werner of Little Rock and Bernard and Bernadine Werner of Clarksville; grandchildren, William B. Huhner of Litchfield, Minn., David and Angie Huhner of Litchfield, Minn., Ann, Paul and Jean Aschenbrenner of Atlanta, Ga., John and Leanne Aschenbrenner of Midland, Mich., Karin and Rich Vetrano of Milwaukee, Wis., and J. Conrad and Elizabeth Werra of Milwaukee, Wis.; and great-grandchildren, Evan and Julia Vetrano of Milwaukee, Wis., and Mayson and MaLaney Huhner of Litchfield, Minn.
Rosary was at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, at Hardwicke Funeral Home. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Rev. William Wewers, O.S.B., officiating. Burial will be in Holy Redeemer Catholic cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chuck Lorfing, Fred Werner, George Werner, Paul Aschenbrenner, John Aschenbrenner, and J. Conrad Werra.
Memorials may be made to Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 103 East Main Street, Clarksville, AR 72830.

Phillip L. Cook

Phillip L. Cook, 49, of Hartman died Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at AMI St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville.
A native of Oklahoma City, Okla., he was a son of the late Verna Dean and Windle P. Cook Jr., graduate of Port Hueneme High School in Port Hueneme, Calif., member of the Knoxville First Baptist Church, truck driver for Mid-South Roller Company, and was preceded in death by one sister and brother-in-law, Shelia and Johnny Cagle; one brother, Marvin Cook; and one niece, Vicky Bowen.
He is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Vanessa and Tom Bowen of Hartman; nieces and nephews, Paula and John Gilmer and Jason and Toi Cook, all of Lamar, Terry Bowen of Wichita, Kan., and Windle and Stacy Bowen, both of Hartman; great-nieces and great-nephews, Joey Gilmer, Duane Cook, Micha Thomas, and Ginny Bentrum; and aunts, Dona Slone and Shirley Cook, both of Hartman.
Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Friday, May 24, at Hartman cemetery with Rev. Ira Taylor officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Sarah Mae Freeman

Sarah Mae Freeman, 91, of Clarksville died Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a Baptist, daughter of the late John and Julie Murry Pruitt, widow of Clifford H. Freeman, and was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Kimerly Sue Callahan; one grandson, Roland Lynn Freeman; one great-grandson, Derek Lee Freeman; two sisters; and two brothers.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Lenna L. and Nolan F. Hughes of Clarksville; one son, Olen E. Freeman of Clarksville; one sister, Gussie Marshall of Oklahoma; one brother and sister-in-law, Darrell and Evelyn Pruitt of California; four grandsons, Gary Hughes, Jim Hughes, Harley Freeman, and George Freeman; one granddaughter, Cynthia Diane McAlister; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial was in Lamar cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Gary Hughes, Harley Freeman, Everett McAlister, Michael Page, Jim Hughes, and George Freeman.
Honorary pallbearers were Fred Freeman and Tim Freeman.

Barbara E. Carter

Barbara Elaine Carter, 58, of Scranton died Sunday, May 19, 2002, at her home.
She was a daughter of the late Audie G. and Grace B. Clayborn Melson, 1961 graduate of South Bend Central High School in South Bend, Ind., receptionist and office employee, and was preceded in death by one brother, Arnold Melson.
Survivors include one daughter, Karla Hayes of Ventura, Calif.; one son, Johnny Hayes of Hunt; two sisters, Georgia Hubbard of Tampa, Fla., and Wanda Colburn of Mishawaka, Ind.; three brothers, Curtis Melson of Rawlins, Wyo., Donald Melson of Thornton, Colo., and Ronald Melson of Tampa, Fla.; two grandchildren; and special friend, Jerome Geels.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Scranton. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 24, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Scranton with Father Placidus Eckart officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Elaine Louise Smith

Elaine Louise Smith, 58, of Ozone died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at her home.
She was a native of Mechanicsburg, Pa., daughter of the late Louise Calvert Weaver, and member of Ozone Full Gospel Church and Mt. Vernon Extension Homemakers Club.
Survivors include her husband, Al Smith; father and stepmother, Paul and Romaine Weaver of Pennsylvania; two sisters, Lois Duncan of Alaska and Pat Brownelwell of Pennsylvania; and five brothers, Robert Weaver, Dan Weaver, and Don Weaver, all of Pennsylvania, Mike Weaver of Tennessee, and Jim Weaver of Alaska.
Funeral was Saturday, May 18, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. Charles Boone officiating. Burial was at Russell cemetery.
Pallbearers were Harley Sinor, Pat Hyland, Matthew Hyland, Jim Beattie, Jerry Whorton, and Claud Batman.

Helen Ann Karnell

Helen Ann Karnell, 81, of Clarksville died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at Crawford Memorial Hospital.
She was a Catholic, daughter of the late Michael and Mary Mygygzyn Mliczek, widow of Fredrick (Fritz) Karnell, and was preceded in death by one son, Michael Anthony Karnell.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Victoria Mary and Charles L. Roberts Jr. of London; one son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Gunnar (Celeste L.) Karnell Jr. of Sharpsville, Pa.; one sister, Sally VanZandt of Morristown, N. J.; and three grandchildren, Fredrick G. Karnell III and Matthew Karnell, both of Philadelphia, Pa., and Charles L. Roberts III of London.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Friday, May 17, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Father William Wewers officiating.
Burial was in Oakland cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Donnie Carroll, Hal Stewart, Randy Palmer, Fred Karnell, Matthew Karnell, and James Paxson.

John J. Giacoletto

John Julius Giacoletto, 72, of Clarksville died Sunday, May 19, 2002, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a mechanic, truck driver, Army veteran, and son of the late Julius and Josie Osborn Giacoletto.
He is survived by three daughters, Sue Henry of Bennington, Kan., Helen McClanahan of Salina, Kan., and Bobbie Townsend of Wyoming; one son, Jeffrey Giacoletto of Salina, Kan.; four sisters, Angie Davis, Georgia Griffith, and Pat Allred, all of Clarksville, and Mary Chapman of Challis, Idaho; one brother, Jim Giacoletto of Pittsfield, Mass.; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at the Jamestown Assembly of God Church with Rev. Vernon Bass officiating.
Burial will be in Carter cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers will be Wayne Davis, Craig Beerman, Nick Teal, Bill Daniels, Kris Davis, Josh Beerman, Jerry Holt, and William Earl Hard.
Honorary pallbearers will be Boyd Davis, Loyd Davis, and Sonny Barron.
Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Mary Helen Crowden

Mary Helen Bean Crowden, 73, of Lamar died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
A native of Lamar, she was a daughter of the late Audie Raymond and Mary Alice Sain Bean, retired emergency room manager at Johnson Regional Medical Center where she was employed for 17 years, past president and vice president and current treasurer of Johnson Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, mayor of Lamar from 1968-70, currently serving a second term as a Lamar alderman, active member of Lamar Baptist Church, and known for her many years of service and volunteerism to the youth and adults of Lamar and Johnson County resulting in the Lamar Little League Ball Park being named in her honor, the Mary Crowden Park, on Friday, May 10.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ira and Eddie Bean; and one sister, Archie Lee Bean.
Survivors include her husband, Issac Richard (Buster) Crowden Sr.; two daughters, Phyllis Dillard of Lamar and Reda Jackson of Powell, Mo.; two sons, Richard Crowden Jr. and Alan Crowden, both of Lamar; five sisters, Savelle Schrock of Russellville, Rena Dale of Flat Rock, Joan Clark of Clarksville, Lela Freeman of Longview, Wash., and Sallie Ryan of Kelso, Wash.; five brothers, Inrey Bean and William Arlon Bean, both of Lamar, David Lee Bean of Crescent City, Calif., Glenn Bean of Kelso, Wash., and Gale Bean of Kalama, Wash.; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at Lamar Baptist Church with Rev. Clyde Vire officiating.
Burial was in Lamar cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Chad Dillard, Randy Jackson, Joel Crowden, Metzi Crowden, Earl Schrock, and Aaron Clark.
