Edward H. Harris Sr.
Edward H. Harris Sr., 72, of Clarksville died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at his home.
He was a native of Macon, Miss., son of the late J. L. and Lucy Hale Harris, graduate of Mississippi State College and attended Louisiana State University, member and elder of Harmony Presbyterian Church, member of the Clarksville Rotary Club where he had held every office in the club, recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow award, served in the Air Force during the Korean War, served in the U. S. Forest Service in Mississippi, South Carolina, and Arkansas and was a retired district ranger of Pleasant Hill Ranger District.
Survivors include his widow, Rosemary Harris; two sons, Edward H. Harris Jr. and Mark Harris, both of Clarksville; one sister, Kay Joffrion of Charlotte, N. C.; one brother, James Hale Harris Jr. of Macon, Miss.; and two grandchildren, Nathan Harris and James Harris, both of Clarksville.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20, at the Harmony Presbyterian Church with Rev. William Woodard officiating.
Burial was in the Harmony cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Louie Don Leeds, Gene Leeds, David Pyron, Wendell Self, Jim Sewell, and Mark Harris.
Honorary pallbearers were Rotary Club members and elders of Harmony Presbyterian Church.
Estelle D. Tower
Estelle L. Douthit Tower, 80, of Little Rock died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at Little Rock.
She was a daughter of the late George and Myrtle Sampley Foley, retired nurse at St. Johns Hospital in Tulsa, Okla., and a Baptist.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Mickey and Susie Douthit of Little Rock; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23, at the West Mt. Zion cemetery with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Foster D. Killough
Foster Douglas Killough, 62, of Van Buren died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, in Van Buren.
He was a son of the late John and Nellie Rowbotham Killough, graduate of Lamar High School, retired tool and die engineer at Whirlpool in Fort Smith, member of Whirlpool Management Club, a golfer, and attended Evangel Temple Church in Fort Smith. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Gene, Finis, Tommy, and James H. Killough.
Survivors are his widow, Pam Killough; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Nathan and Julie Killough and Lance and Teresa Killough, all of Van Buren, and Arron Killough of the home; one stepdaughter, Meredith Knauls of Fort Smith; five sisters, Bobbie Sherrill of Lamar, Oleta Sproul of Little Rock, Susie Duncan of Wichita, Kan., Jessie Rye of Las Vegas, Nev., and Lura Harmon of Lamar; one brother, John Wayne Killough of Mountain Grove, Mo.; and five grandchildren, Chad Killough of Alma, and Nicholas Killough, Abigail Killough, Dylan Killough, and Kassidy Killough, all of Van Buren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, at Edwards Van-Alma Chapel with burial at Gracelawn cemetery in Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Devin Cochran, Gary Sebo, Ton Kauferberg, Bob Beyerle, Jeri Vaughn, Ben Pearson and Ray Johnson.
Grady Lewis Long
Grady Lewis Long, 70, of Knoxville died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at his home.
He was a native of Braggadocef Township, Mo., son of the late Raymond Louis and Jettie Mae Skaggs Long, and a retired automobile mechanic.
He is survived by two daughters, Margaret Scharf of Vernonia, Ore., and Lisa Cecere of Tujunga, Calif.; one son, Thomas Long of Westminister, Calif.; three sisters, Louise Seal of Indiana, Mary of California, and Ruthanne Carson of Arizona; one brother, Earl Long of Missouri; one grandchild; and a companion, Margaret Sullivan of Knoxville.
The body was cremated.
Local arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Lillian M. Brown
Lillian May Brown, 61, of Lamar died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Fresno, Calif., daughter of the late David and Othel Starr Lenard, and a health care provided for the Johnson County Health Department.
Survivors include her husband, Larry Joe Brown; one daughter, Anna Alexander of Crocker, Mo.; two sons, Tony Elam of Crocker, Mo., and Jerry (Buck) Elam of Fowler, Colo.; three sisters, Evelyn Trammel of Stockton, Calif., and Melba Trammel and Linda Dickson, both of Fresno, Calif.; three brothers, Harold Lenard and David Lenard, both of Fresno, Calif., and Doyle Lenard of Sanger, Calif.; nine grandchildren, Nathan Alexander, Christopher Elam, Seth Alexander, Faith Ann Elam, David Elam, Jerimiah Elam, Crystal Tatum, Brandon Tatum, and Andy Tatum; and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at the Minnow Creek cemetery with Rev. Vernon Long officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were David Elam, Jerimiah Elam, Christopher Elam, Seth Alexander, Andy Tatum, and Jason Clark.
Paul E. O'Neal
Paul Eugene O'Neal 83, of Fayetteville died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at the Veterans Hospital in Fayetteville.
He was a son of the late James and Bertha R. Temple O'Neal, retired carpenter, World War II Army veteran and was the recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart awards and a member of Highland Park Assembly of God Church in Fayetteville.
He was senior vice commander of Arkansas Military Order of the Purple Heart, commander and life member of Chapter 460 of the Order of the Purple Heart in Fayetteville, commander of Jack Tidwell Post No. 2722 Veterans of Foreign Wars in Fayetteville and while holding this position he was named all-state chapter commander for Arkansas, senior vice commander of District 1 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Benton, Carroll and Washington counties, and chapter commander of Post No. 3 Disabled American Veterans in Fayetteville.
Survivors include his widow, Ruby J. Tate O'Neal; one daughter, Bernadine Dalton of Crosses; one son, Eldon Brown of Pensacola, Fla.; one stepson, Carl Bush of Van Buren; one brother, George O'Neal of Fort Scott, Kan.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Terrel Gordon officiating. Burial was in Oakland cemetery.
Don R. Hurst Sr.
Don Robert Hurst Sr., 71, of Coal Hill died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, at his home.
A native of Coal Hill, he was a son of the late John (Hobby) and Ollie Flake Hurst, graduate of Coal Hill High School and Capitol City Business College in Little Rock and served in the Air Force from 1950 to 1971 before retiring as a senior master sergeant.
He was a former Singer Company employee, director of Self-Help Housing for Johnson County, served on the ARVAC and Forrester-Davis Development Center boards, former member of the Coal Hill City Council where he was instrumental in building the Coal Hill Child Development Center and city hall. He was a member and elder of Ferguson Memorial Presbyterian Church in Coal Hill, member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 62, and a lifetime member of the Coal Hill VFW Post No. 8532 which he helped organize. He was preceded in death by one brother, John Flake Hurst.
Survivors include his widow, Gayle Smith Hurst; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Don Robert (Charlotte) Hurst Jr. of Coal Hill, John Michael Hurst of Jonesboro, and Mr. and Mrs. James (Chip) Hurst of Alma; four grandchildren, Amber Hurst of Coal Hill, John Michael Hurst II of Jonesboro, Mrs. Jeff (Becky) Hawbiltzel of Fayetteville, and Jamie Hurst of Alma; and one great-granddaughter, Sarah Hurst of Coal Hill.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at the Ferguson Memorial Presbyterian Church in Coal Hill with Burley King and Bob King officiating.
Burial will be in the Coal Hill cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers will be Dee Yates, Paul Walker, Ben Yates, Dean Hammons, Wesley Kendrick, and Greg Donaldson.

Evelyn N. Johnson
Evelyn Nesbit Johnson, 88, of Cache, Okla., died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, in a Lawton (Oklahoma) Care Center.
She was a native of Montana, daughter of the late Fred and Maude Hardgrave Kloss, member of the Church of Christ in Cache, Okla., was a former employee of Kress, Anthony's, TG&Y and Gibson's, and was preceded in death by one brother; and one sister.
Survivors are her husband, Charles J. Johnson Jr.; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Travis and Marilyn Johnson of Tucson, Ariz., Charles Johnson of Cache, Okla., and Johnny and Judy Johnson of Fort Worth, Texas; two daughters, Donna Durkee of Moore, Okla., and Anita Smith of Cache, Okla.; one brother and spouse, Maxie and Joan Kloss of Tulsa, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at the First Baptist Church in Cache, Okla., with Rev. Truman Ferguson and Rev. Robert McPheters officiating.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Lawton, Okla., under the direction of Peoples Cooperative Funeral Home of Lone Wolf, Okla.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home in Lawton, Okla.

Jaunita O. King
Jaunita O. King, 91, of Clarksville died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at her home.
She was a native of the Woodland Community, daughter of the late Oliver Langley and Viola Ford Hudson, widow of Abe B. King, and member of the Harmony
Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Rita and Jan Carrington of Denton, Texas, and Pansy and Ken Nelson of Clarksville; one sister, Winnie Dickerson of Clarksville; three brothers, Alton Hudson of Fort Smith and Cecil Hudson and Reece Hudson, both of Clarksville; four grandchildren, Lisa Adamson of Charlotte, N. C., Denise Lovelace of Kingwood, Texas, Angie Hewat of Wilkesboro, N. C., and Josh Nelson of Clarksville; and ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, at the Harmony Presbyterian Church with Rev. Steve Wingo officiating.
Burial was in Woodland cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Robert Hudson, Jimmy R. Hudson, Jimmy Dickerson, Abe Laster Jr., David Laster, Gerald Laster, and Austen Lovelace.
