Betty B. Higgs
Betty Blackard Higgs, 72, of Arkadelphia died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, in Baptist Medical Center at Little Rock.
A native of Johnson County, she was a daughter of the late John E. and Hallie Hardgrave Blackard, widow of Billy Horace Higgs, Methodist, and was preceded in death by one son, Mark Higgs.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, John Michael and Beverly Higgs of Arkadelphia; one daughter, Laura Diane Higgs of Long Beach, Calif.; grandchildren, Cena H. Clark and husband, Brian, and John Michael Higgs Jr. and wife, Dawn, all of Gurdon; great-grandchildren, Hallie and Kelsey Clark and Kaitlyn and Michael Higgs; two sisters-in-law, Randa Higgs Hawkins of Fort Smith and Marylyn Higgs of Little Rock; one aunt, Rena Hardgrave of Clarksville; and one nephew, William Taylor Higgs of Little Rock.
Graveside services and burial were at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22, at Oakland cemetery in Fordyce with Rev. Daniel Kirrpatrick officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Benton Funeral Home of Fordyce.

Edward Lee Jenkins
Edward Lee Jenkins, 54, of Lamar died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002, at his home.
He was a disabled veteran, son of the late William Bernard and Martha Modean Grifford Jenkins, and was preceded in death by one son, Randy Wayne Jenkins; and one sister, Lanora Robinson.
Survivors include his widow, Mary Scribner Jenkins; one daughter and son-in-law, Lesa and Carl Wilson of Lamar; one sister, Flora B. Wilkie of Douglasville, Ga.; and two grandchildren, Kenneth and Natasha Wilson, both of Lamar.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at Roller-Cox Chapel.
Earl M. Vanderhoof
Earl Milton Vanderhoof, 81, of Ozone died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a carpenter, Methodist, and son of the late Earl Arthur and Fenna Marie Sowards Vanderhoof.
Survivors include his widow, Mary V. Ahrendes Vanderhoof; one stepdaughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Jerry Turner of Clarksville; two sisters, Elaine Dermerath of Arizona and Doris Wilson of California; two brothers, Gordon Vanderhoof of California and Thomas Vanderhoof of Michigan; two grandchildren, Brad and Troy Turner; and three great-grandchildren, Madison, Ashton and Phillip Turner.
Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at Mt. Vernon cemetery with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Jeffrey S. Buchanan
Jeffrey Scott Buchanan, 27, of Scranton died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002.
He was an employee of Baldor Electric and grandson of the late W. H. Lindsey and Byron W. Buchanan.
Survivors are one daughter, Lacey Nicole Buchanan of Scranton; two sons, Christopher Lee Buchanan and Jacob Scott Buchanan, both of Scranton; parents, Victor Byron and Nancy Lindsey Buchanan of Scranton; one sister, Becky Bull; one brother, Russell Byron Buchanan of Scranton; and grandmothers, Ora Lindsey of Sheridan and Gertrue Buchanan of Russellville.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Clark Snow and Rev. Jeff Herderson officiating. Burial was at Baptist cemetery in the Center Valley Community.
Pallbearers were Terry Beck, Scott Mertin, Craig Geels, Steve Hunt, Kevin Schouweller, and Matt Ahne.
Julius O. Lednisky
Julius Oskar Lednisky, 85, of Clarksville died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
He was a son of the late Stephen and Josephine Scherbing Lednisky, graduate of Elmwood Park High School in Chicago, Ill., retired after 20 years in the Navy having served in the Pacific and in the European Theater on the U. S. Cabot, the Clark and the Roosevelt aircraft carriers, 32nd degree Mason, member of the Scottish Rites, Shriners, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, and First United Methodist Church in Clarksville. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elsie Glover Lednisky; and two brothers, Steve Lednisky and Jimmy Lednisky.
Survivors include his widow, Mary Galbraith Lednisky; one stepdaughter and spouse, Gwen and Rev. Billy Ray Usery of Clarksville; stepmother, Rose Lednisky of Fontana, Calif.; one stepsister, Claire Wright of Vista, Calif.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, at Roller-Owens Chapel in North Little Rock. Private burial was in Mt. Carmel cemetery at Cabot.

Juanita B. Scott
Juanita B. Scott, 79, of Clarksville died Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, in Whitehouse, Texas.
She was a native of Clarksville, daughter of the late Henry Erwin and Harriet Moore Bean, graduate of Ola High School, member of Hazen First Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by one son, Paul Erwin Scott; and one grandson, Bryan Scott.
Survivors are her husband, Paul E. Scott; one son, Larry E. Scott of Tyler, Texas; three sisters, Alice Styles of Benton and Ruby Freeman and Katie Cecil, both of Clarksville; one brother, Chester L. Bean of Fort Smith; two grandchildren, Carrie Scott of Tyler, Texas, and Jonathan Scott of San Antonio, Texas; and two great-grandchildren, Austin Scott and Hayley Scott, both of Tyler, Texas.
Funeral was at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Dr. Robert Brown officiating. Burial was in Oakland cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jonathan Freeman, Joshua Freeman, Chase Cecil, Kent Cecil, Bob Mooney, and Jason Daniel.
Lloyd L. Lemarr
Lloyd Leon Lemarr, 70, of Knoxville died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a son of the late Gus Harvey and Opal Lorene Phillips Lemarr and retired from the Tyson Company.
Survivors include his widow, Mary Cagle Lemarr; five daughters, Vicki Lemarr Mayfield of Altus, Loretta Cummisky and Linda Freeman of the Flat Rock Community, Diane Olinger of Clarksville, and Benita Dale of Knoxville; one son, Jerry Dale of Knoxville; 17 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, at Roller-Cox Chapel with burial in Knoxville cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Keith Hickey, Randy Freeman, Michael Freeman, Daniel Foreman, Tommy Thomas, and Jerry Dale.
Honorary pallbearers will be David Cummisky, William Cagle, Jackie Thomas, Robert Ham, Von Thomas, Ronnie Mayfield, Randall Mayfield, and Roy Mayfield.
Philip Wilson Allen
Philip Wilson Allen, 67, of the Flat Rock Community, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, at his home.
He was a native of Laredo, Texas, son of the late Harold and Marie Wilson Allen, graduate of Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, Marine veteran of the Korean War, retired computer analyst with McDonald Douglas, and a graduate of San Marcos Baptist Academy in San Marcos, Texas.
Survivors are his widow, Noemi Allen; one daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Jay Austin of Caseyville, Ill.; one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald Allen and Charlene Artman of Washington, D. C.; one stepson, Kenneth Artman of Riverside, Calif.; four grandsons, James Berghoff, Greg Artman, Zachary Austin, and Robert Plummer; five granddaughters, Christina West, Sarah Austin, Samantha Austin, Elizabeth Austin, and Amanda Miller; and one great-granddaughter, Abigail West.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, at his home at 132 Private Road 1767.
The body was cremated.
Local arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Ann Clemmons
Ann (Hassie) Clemmons, 103, of Clarksville died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at Parkdale Manor Care Center in Maryville, Mo.
She was a native of Clarksville, daughter of the late Francis Marion and Marietta Williamson Simmons, widow of Charles A. Clemmons, member of First United Methodist Church and Methodist Women, song leader and president of her Sunday school class for many years, active member of the Sulphur Springs Extension Homemakers Club and the Sulphur Springs Quilting Club, and during World War II taught first aid classes. She was preceded in death by one son, Charles A. Clemmons Jr.; and one grandchild.
Survivors include three daughters, Dorothy Salminen of Dallas, Texas, Marion Blythe of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Carole Zahnd of Maryville, Mo.; one son, Frank Clemmons of Clarksville; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at the First United Methodist Church in Clarksville with Rev. Steve Wingo officiating.
Burial was in Oakland cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Lester Skaggs, W. C. (Bud) White Jr., Sammy Wish, Henry Walton, Jack Phillips, and J. D. Jacobs.
