James F. Melson
James Francis Melson, 86, of Pettigrew died Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, in Fayetteville.
He was a retired farmer and sawmill employee, son of the late Harrison and Julia Ememline Bohannon Melson, and was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Hill Melson.
Survivors include two daughters, Francine Bookout of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Thelma Davis of Springdale; one son, Doyle Melson of Tulsa, Okla.; one brother, O. Z. Melson of Strickler; and one grandchild.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at the Oark Community Building with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating.
Burial was in Oark cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Billy Davis, George Stewart, Rick Moulder, and David Acre.
Russell A. Famuliner
Russell Allen Famuliner, 43, of Knoxville died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, at Knoxville.
He was an apartment maintenance employee, Lutheran, and preceded in death by one son, Seth Famuliner.
Survivors include his fiance, Patricia Savage of Albuquerque, N. M.; four sons, Roy Thomas Edward Famuliner of North Glenn, Colo., and Heath Quinten Famuliner, Jareth Dalton Famuliner, and Garrett Famuliner, all of Tustin, Calif.; parents, Rev. Loren E. and Jane A. Schnakenberg Famuliner of Knoxville; two sisters, Rae Ann Famulinerr Nelson of Lebanon, Ore., and Carol Lynn Famuliner Vincent of Tualatin, Ore.; two nieces, Jenny Vonsild and Katherine Vonsild, both of Oregon; two nephews, Timothy Stalford and Jeremiah Stalford, both of Oregon; and one great-niece, Genivieve Prajapati.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at Zion Lutheran Church in the Augsburg Community. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Glen F. Chavers
Glen F. Chavers, 70, of Knoxville died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at his home.
He was a native of Lamar, son of the late Marion C. and Nora Jane Freeman Chavers, member of Bethel Baptist Church at Knoxville, lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans Post No. 62 and Order of Purple Heart, and retired employee of the Arkansas Highway Department after 27 years of service.
Survivors include his widow, Martha Chavers; two sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Teri Chavers and Glen and Melissa Chavers, all of Lamar; one sister, Imogene Hunt of Clarksville; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Raymond Brown officiating.
Burial was in Knoxville cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Bob Nichols, Matthew Nichols, Jody Storms, Timmy Storms, Jerry Williams, and Andy May.
Honorary pallbearers were Janie Silvia, Johnny Rice, Andrew Brightman, Nelson Chavers, Ab Reynolds, and Duane Childers.
Irene L. Tompkins
Irene L. Tompkins, 67, of Clarksville died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
She was a native of Detroit, Mich., daughter of the late Charles C. and Minnie Lauderdale Tompkins, member of the Catholic Church, former employee of Tyson Foods, Inc., and was preceded in death by one brother, Charles G. Tompkins.
She had no immediate survivors.
The body was cremated. Local arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, at the Sacred Heart cemetery with Father William Wewers officiating.
Quentin Bean
Quentin Bean, 82, of Clarksville died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
A native of Clarksville, he was a son of the late William and Ethel Jacobs Bean, a retired carpenter and Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by two daughters, Evelyn Andersen of Clarksville and Phyllis Atkins of Peyton, Colo.; one sister, Emma Dell Leeds of Clarksville; six grandchildren, Michelle Moore and Joshua Moore, both of Seattle, Wash., Melandie Uscocovich of Quayaquil, Ecuador, Adam Moore of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, and Joel Atkins and Brian Atkins, both of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and two great-grandchildren, Santiago Uscocovich of Ecuador and Elias Quen Alba Moore of Seattle, Wash.
Graveside services and burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, at Stillwell cemetery with David Lasater officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Joel Atkins, Adam Moore, Brian Atkins and Joshua Moore.
Andrew L. Young
Andrew Lee (Andy) Young, 67, of Russellville died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at his home.
He was a son of the late Leo and Pearlie Hughes Young, farmer, logger and an Army and Marine veteran.
He is survived by three sons, Arnold Lee Young of Pelsor, Andy Lee Young of Atkins, and Clarance Leo Young of Russellville; one stepson, Charles Freeman of Clarksville; two sisters, Grace Warren of Colorado and Nora Phillips of Clarksville; three brothers, Roy Young of Dover, Wayne Young of Lamar, and Kenneth Young of Hagarville; mother of his children, Marie Young; companion, Alice Harmon; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Dr. E. Fay Bennett and Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial with military honors was at Fort Douglas cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Charles Freeman, Andy Young, Greg Phillips, Wayne Smith, Lee Young, and Leo Young.
Honorary pallbearers were Raymond Young, Danny Young, Roy Young, Kenny Phillips, Jerry Phillips, Jason Freeman, and Mike Robertson.
Charles M. Johnson
Charles Matthew Johnson, 16, of Clarksville died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, at his home.
He was a student at Lamar Public Schools.
Survivors include his parents, Johnny Raymond Johnson of Clarksville and Margaret Ann Swayzer Johnson of Clarksville; and three brothers, Johnny Travis Johnson, Raymond Cole Johnson, and Billy Earl Johnson, all of Clarksville.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Mike Payne officiating. Burial was in Lamar cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Richard Johnson, Patrick Johnson, Timmy Reynolds, Chris Johnson, Brian Acello, and Leon Hill.
Honorary pallbearers were Jessie Johnson, Mike Lindsey, and Paul Wayne Williams.

Delia J. Case
Delia J. Case, 83, of Salus died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at Clarksville Convalescent Home.
She was a member of the Free Holiness Church, widow of Sherman Case, and daughter of the late William and Winnie Cargile Boen.
She is survived by four daughters, Louise Hughes of Fort Douglas, Connie Boling of Fallsville, Vonda Hudson of Charleston, and Velda Mullins of Hagarville; two sons, J. D. Case of Rudy and Cecil Case of Evansville; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Salus Free Holiness Church with Rev. Robert Boen officiating.
Burial will be at the Case cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Danny Young, Christopher Mack, Carl Easley, Harrison Case, Elmer Case, and Joe Barnes.
Darlene B. Jones
Darlene Beatrice Gillock Jones, 64, of Clarksville died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a daughter of the late George Herschel and Freda Randall Gillock, widow of Herbert Jones, and a Baptist.
Survivors include her stepmother, Mary Gillock of Springfield, Ill.; two sisters, Cora Ackely and Stella Wyatt, both of Springfield, Mo.; and one brother, George Gillock of Taylorville, Ill.
Graveside memorial services will be held at a later date at the National cemetery in Fort Smith with Rev. Michael Sawyer officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
