Berniss J. Lawler

Berniss J. Lawler, 86, of Clarksville died Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
She was a native of Chicago, Ill., daughter of the late John and Mary Troyk Gatz, widow of Clyde Lawler, and member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.
She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Janet and Frank Graham of North Little Rock, Claudia Mitchell of Trevor, Wis., and Bonnie and Gary Hawkins of Clarksville; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jon and Dawn Lawler of Elmhurst, Ill., and Terry Lawler of Plano, Texas; one sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Bob Maronde of Darien, Wis.; one brother and sister-in-law, John and Irene Gatz of Greenwood, Wis.; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Rosary was at 7 p.m. Friday, June 6, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel. Funeral was at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 7, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Rev. William Wewers, O.S.B., officiating. Burial was in Holy Redeemer Catholic cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tim Graham, Gary Scott Hawkins, David Hawkins, Mike Lawler, Bob Mitchell, Dale Stewart, and Scott Green.

C. C. Eaves Jr.

C. C. Eaves Jr., 76, of Clarksville died Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Annona, Texas, son of the late Christopher Columbus and Ella Marie Morrison Eaves, attended Spadra Baptist Church, and was a retired boiler operator.
He is survived by four daughters and three sons-in-law, Karlinda and Scott Heims of St. Petersburg, Fl., Laura and Vince Runco of Davenport, Iowa, Melinda and Peter Brush of Reno, Nev., and Deborah Heyward of Clearwater, Fla.; three sisters, Margie Bouge of Omaha, Neb., Emma Jo Berry of Pattonville, Texas, and Sybill Day of Kansas City, Mo.; and six grandchildren, Danielle Jerrels of St. Petersburg, Fla., Kristen Runco and Christopher Runco, both of Davenport, Iowa, and Donovan Williams, Justin Brush, and Cody Brush, all of Reno, Nev.
A memorial service will be held at the National cemetery with burial and full military honors at Rock Island Army Arsenal in Rock Island, Ill.
Local arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Colton L. Krumdick

Colton Lee Krumdick, infant son of Jason and Bethany Brison Krumdick of Coal Hill, died Saturday, June 7, 2003, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
Other survivors are grandparents, Jerry and Lisa Brison of Coal Hill and Greg and Debbie Krumdick of Clarksville; and great-grandparents, J. T. Brison of Hartman, and Earnest and Betty Tate and Charlett and David Thompson, all of Clarksville.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Monday, June 9, at the Liberty Hill cemetery with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Donnie L. Clinton

Donnie L. Clinton, 65, of Hartman died Thursday, June 5, 2003, at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center in Fort Smith.
He was a native of Clarksville, son of the late Chester and Bonnie Bly Clinton, graduate of Clarksville High School, member of the Assembly of God Church, spent 20 years in the 239th Engineer Company of the National Guard at Clarksville, was a heavy equipment operator, and was preceded in death by one brother, Doyle Clinton.
Survivors include his widow, Janice Clinton; two daughters, Cheryl McCarley of Lamar and Debbie Clinton of Coal Hill; one son, Brian Clinton of Clarksville; and four grandchildren, Mika Clinton and Katie Clinton, both of Clarksville, and Kaleb and Kendall McCarley, both of Lamar.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, June 9, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. David Zeiler officiating. Burial was in Oakland cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Junior Rives, Bruce Warren, John Schuh, Curtis Fetters, James Cowell, Jerry Curtis, James Dickerson and Gerald Bunch.
Honorary pallbearers were Bryan Tipton, Bo Miller, and Owen Cockrum.

Jack Miller

Jack Miller, 71, of Altus died Thursday, June 5, 2003, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Denning, son of the late Frank Miller, retired owner of Jack's Auto Sales, Protestant, and was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Lombard Miller, and one sister, Mary Alice Stewart.
He is survived by one son, Stacy Miller of Altus; mother, Georgia Thomas Miller of Ozark; one brother, Bob Miller of Fort Smith; and one grandchild.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with Rev. James Hurst officiating. Burial was in Houston cemetery at Alix.

Kenneth Larson

Kenneth Larson, Lt. Col. Ret., 72, of Clarksville died Sunday, June 8, 2003.
He was a son of the late Elbert and Willie (Billie) Officer Thomas Larson, graduate of Clarksville High School and the University of the Ozarks, coach and teacher at Clarksville High School in the late 1950s and early 1960s, and a boxer having won numerous state Golden Glove boxing titles.
In 1963, he entered the military and served with many honors until his retirement in 1995. Among the honors were Meritorious Service Medal with Second Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Award, National Defense Service Medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Naval Air Crew Insignia, and Meritorious Unit Emblem.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Renee Stuart Larson.
Survivors include one son, Kenneth Paul Larson, and two grandsons, Paul A. Larson and Dallas R. Larson of Corpus Christi, Texas; one stepson, Richard Reed of Chico, Calif.; and special friend, Shirley Propps of Clarksville.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. Burnett King officiating.
The body was cremated.

Rev. Vanessa Bowen

Rev. Vanessa L. Bowen, 48, of Hartman died Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at her home.
She was born in Oklahoma City, Okla., daughter of the late Windle Phillip and Verna Dean Goodin Cook, licensed Assembly of God minister, member of Fernwood Assembly of God Church where she was Wee Worship minister, received a bachelor of science degree at Kingsway Theological Seminary in Des Moines, Iowa, and was preceded in death by one daughter, Vicky Bowen, and one son, Thomas Bowen Jr.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas Bowen; one daughter, Stacy Bowen of the home; and two sons, Terry Bowen of Wichita, Kan., and Windle Bowen of the home.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 7, 2003, at the Fernwood Assembly of God Church with Rev. Travis George officiating.
Burial was in the Hartman cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Jason Cook, Jody Gilmer, Jason Bishop, Les and Joann Lantz, Scott and Suzie Green, Michelle Powers, Shelly Russell, Gregg and Amber Willis, Rhonda and Travis George, Allen Walker, and Mike Estes.

Violet Self

Violet Self, 79, of Rogers died Thursday, June 5, 2003, at her home.
She was a native of Swain, daughter of the late Harrison and Lela Mae Thomas Hufford, widow of Harlon Self Sr., former longtime Clarksville resident, member of the First Assembly of God Church in Clarksville, retired boat builder, and was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, J. R. and Laura Self of Van Buren, Jerry M. and Glenda Self of Fayetteville, and Larry D. and Shirley Self of Springdale; two daughters and sons-in-law, Burni and Jim Tolbert of North Little Rock and Norma Jo and Jimmie Johnson of Rogers; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Georald and Esther Hufford of Bentonville, James and Faye Hufford of Rogers and JoAnn Hufford of Afton, Okla.; one sister and brother-in-law, Stella and Junior Henderson of Morrilton; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, June 9, at the First Assembly of God Church in Clarksville with Rev. Terry Cameron officiating.
Burial was in Woodland cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Todd Johnson, Brian Tolbert, Mike Self, Tim Self, Jim Self, Stephen Self, and John Richardson.

Ellen Louise McBee

Ellen Louise Rockhold McBee, 64, of Onalaska, Texas, died May 28, 2003.
She was preceded in death by her father, Melvin Rockhold; and one sister, Helen Fritz.
Survivors include her husband, Wilbur L. McBee; four daughters and sons-in-law, Dianna and Allen Carpenter of Clarksville, Cindy and Larry Redden of Livingston, Texas, Debbie and Dennis Twardowski of Houston, Texas, and Tammy and Bobby Hall of Magnolia, Texas; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Linda McBee of Willis, Texas; mother, Hazel G. Wright of California; one sister, Roberta (Bobby) Allen of California; one brother, Melvin Rockhold of Illinois; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7, at the Hayes Chapel United Methodist Church with burial in Cave Mountain cemetery.

Gene A. Basham

Gene A. Basham, 83, of Clarksville died Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Van Buren, son of the late John Harold (Harry) and Lou Riddle Basham, graduate of Clarksville High School, attended the University of the Ozarks, and member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he served as custodian for 28 years prior to retiring.
He is survived by one brother, Dr. Robert H. Basham of Clarksville; and two nieces, Alison Kotarek of Greenwood and Jan Thompson of Fayetteville.
Funeral was at 3 p.m. Friday, May 30, at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Lance Jones officiating.
Burial was in Oakland cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
