James L. Dorney

James Lawrence Dorney, 70, of Hartman died Monday, June 2, 2003, at Mercy Hospital/Turner Memorial in Ozark.
He was born at Hartman to Tom and Lula Scroggins Dorney, superintendent for the city of Hartman Water Department, Protestant, Army veteran of the Korean War, Westside High School board member, and 32nd degree Mason at Hartman Lodge.
Survivors include his widow, Katherine Nichols Dorney; three daughters, Karen Carlisle of Altus and Kimberley Moore and Linda Hassis, both of Hartman, one sister, Martha Chavers of Knoxville; one brother, Tom Dorney of Hartman; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The body was cremated.
Local arrangements were under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.

Rev. Jewell Taylor

Rev. Jewell G. Taylor, 93, of Clarksville died Friday, May 30, 2003, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Clarksville, daughter of the late William and Mary Mason Wise, retired minister, and a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Clarksville.
Survivors include two sons, Douglas Taylor of Clifton, Colo., and Pat Taylor of Clarksville; five grandchildren, Vernon Taylor, Sharon McMillon, Brenda Robinson, Becky Dalton and Rusty Taylor, all of Clarksville; seven great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, June 2, at the First Assembly of God Church in Clarksville with Rev. Terry Cameron and Rev. Dade Kindrix officiating.
Burial was in Shady Grove cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Robert Jordan, Levi Willis, Carl Williams, Jim Graves, Calvin Warren, and Homer Qualls.

Landen L. Moss

Landen Laurance Moss, infant son of Cameron Moss and Heather Laughter Keech of Hartman, died Friday, May 30, 2003, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
Other survivors include two brothers, Cameron Keech of the home and Nathan Moss of Ozark; and grandparents, Elsie Plante of Altus, Steve Laughter of Springdale, and Edna Earp of Dardanelle.
Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Monday, June 2, at the Belt cemetery with Nathan McIntyre officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Mary J. Maxwell

Mary Jim McClellan Maxwell, 86, of Ozark died Monday, May 26, 2003, at Ozark Nursing Home.
A native of Ozark, she was a daughter of the late James L. and Sarah Linda Campbell McClellan, widow of Leon Maxwell, and member of Enon Primitive Baptist Church in Ozark.
Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Johnny and Carol Maxwell of Ozone and Jimmy Maxwell of North Little Rock; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were at 10 a.m. Friday, May 30, at Highland cemetery with James Isaac, Jeremy Maxwell and Jimmy Maxwell officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Ozark Nursing Home Activity Fund, 600 North 12th, Ozark, AR 72949.

Robert J. Diehl

Robert J. Diehl, 76, died Tuesday, May 27, 2003, in Callahan, Fla.
He was born in Garfield, N. J., spent most of his life in Hollywood, Fla., and had resided in Knoxville the past 12 years. He was a retired sergeant from the Broward County Sheriff's Office and served in the Navy in World War II.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Karen Diehl; three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Kenny Stahlin, Darlene and Jack LaDow, and Robyn and Bobby Mixson; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 31, in the chapel of Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home in Jacksonville, Fla.

Bernice I. Green

Bernice I. Green, 83, of Lamar died Monday, May 26, 2003, at Johnson Regional Medical center.
She was a Methodist, member of the American Legion and VFW, daughter of the late Howard and Mable Stubbs Ewing, widow of William T. Green, and was preceded in death by two sisters, twin-Beatrice I. Witt and Gloria Terry; and four brothers, Fred Ewing, Edward Ewing, Harry Terry and Larry Terry,
Survivors include two sisters, Doris Smalley of Joplin, Mo., and Alveen Brumbly of Grants Pass, Ore.; one brother, Roy Ewing of Annapolis, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 29, at Lamar cemetery with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Connie R. Pomrenke

Cornelia Ruth (Connie) Hipp Pomrenke, 77, of Clarksville died Sunday, May 25, 2003, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
She was born at Bingen, daughter of the late Charlie Martin and Agnes Clark Hipp, graduate of Nashville (Arkansas) High School, and member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Alfred Pomrenke; one daughter, Mary Jane Bittick of Tulsa, Okla.; four sons, Jim Funderburg and Gary Funderburg, both of Alma, Joe Funderburg of Russellville, and Ronnie Funderburg of Lamar; two sisters, Mary Alice Rike of Nashville and Minona Gaisser of Evansville, Ind.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. Gary Blair officiating. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Michael Funderburg, Bryce Funderburg, Chris Chappell, John Wayne Rike, Matt Mitchell, and John Raymond Myrick.

Ed N. Blackard

Ed Noel Blackard, 80, of Clarksville died Sunday, May 25, 2003, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Hartman, son of the late Ancil and Cora Tipton Blackard, graduate of Hartman High School, member of the First United Methodist Church where he was on the board of Stewards, retired master auto technician and body repair specialist and owner-operator of Blackard Motor Service for several years.
Survivors include his widow, Fayne Parker Blackard; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Vernon Bryan of Tucson, Ariz., Cheryl and Ronnie Coffman of Russellville, and Carrie Jean and Stephen Wilson of Satellite Beach, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Tanya Zaharescu, Noel Bryan, Greg Lingar, Brad Coffman, Rachard Andrews, Parker Wilson, Ragon Wilson and Todd Lingar; and six great-grandchildren, Wrease and Mika Zaharescu, Aukai Bryan, Jacob and Meagan Lingar, and Taylor Andrews.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Wingo officiating.
Burial was in Oakland cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Jack Phillips, Ben Phillips, Bob Blackard, Pat Blackard, C. O. Blackard, and Walter Nowotny.

Harry T. Paxson

Harry T. Paxson, 84, of Lamar died Thursday, May 22, 2003, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a Baptist, World War II Army veteran, son of Henry James and Mary Elizabeth Kimes Paxson, and was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Paxson.
He is survived by one daughter, Shirley Morgan of London; three sons, James H. Paxson of Clarksville, Ronald L. Paxson of Lamar and Tarry E. Paxson of Knoxville; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 24, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Ray Brown officiating. Private burial was in the National cemetery at Fort Smith.
Pallbearers were Bob Dinsmore, Bill Hill, Eugene Hill, Richard Crowden, Glenn Hatchett, and Bob Wilcox.

Theresa Jean Willis

Theresa Jean Willis, 56, of Clarksville died Saturday, May 24, 2003, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Clarksville, daughter of the late Elmo Jackson and Margaret Chenault May, attended Clarksville Schools, member of St. John's AME Methodist Church and Clarksville Church of Christ, antique dealer and home hospice nurse.
Survivors include her husband, Thirl Willis; two daughters, Theresa Ann Mitchell of The Colony, Texas, and Rosemary Willis of Dallas, Texas; two sons, Thirl Willis Jr. of Fort Smith and Glenn Willis of Clarksville; seven sisters, Nancy Timmons and Janie Bagsby, both of Clarksville, Margaret Ann May of McKinney, Texas, Alice Pratt and Ernestine Toran, both of Fort Smith, Beverly May of Georgia, and Gladys Perkins of Lawton, Okla.; four brothers, Otis May of McKinney, Texas, Bobby Joe May of Houston, Texas, Sammie Lee May of Clarksville and Robert May Jr. of Little Rock; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 30, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Lloyd Chenault officiating.
Burial will be in Oakland cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers will be Otis May, Don Willis, Earl May, Ronald Mitchell, Albert Bagsby, Sam Scott, Floyd Chenault, and Patrick Baker.
Honorary pallbearers will be John West, Gaylen Scott, William Reed Jr., and William Cotton.
