Bobby Gene Emery

Bobby Gene Emery, 69, of Clarksville died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, at his home.
He was a native of Ratcliff, son of the late Lawrence Joseph and Vera Evans Emery, Baptist, graduate of Hartman High School, attended Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, Army veteran of the Korean War, employed as a coal miner for 31 1/2 years with his last position prior to retirement being a mechanical electrician of Utah Power and Light Mining Division, and a member of United Mine Workers of America. He was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Jo Carter.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Betty James Emery; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Michael Harvey of Clarksville and Rebecca Ann and Steve Jones of Bentonville; three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Son and Betty James of Hagarville, Kermit and Nell James of Texas, and James A. Carter of Clarksville; four grandchildren, Lou Ann Harvey, Sarah Jo Harvey, Elizabeth Jones and Erin Jones; two aunts, Wanda Hook of Hartman and Christine Smith of Oklahoma; one uncle, Doyle Evans of Hartman; numerous nephews, cousins and nieces, including Anita Jo Carter of Oklahoma.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. Clyde Vire officiating. Burial was in the Hess cemetery at Coal Hill.
Pallbearers were nephews, Larry Carter, Stanley Carter, Randy Carter, Earl Carter, Robert Carter, and Charlie Shultz.

David Charles Owens

David Charles Owens, 24, of London died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock.
He was a heavy equipment operator, native of Russellville, and preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles Haynes and J. T. and Lily June Owens.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Kenneth and Cindy Owens; mother and stepfather, Kathy Martin and Raymond Cooper of London; one brother, Casey Owens of Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Misty Gilbert and Tera Price, both of London; grandmother, Betty Brandon of Chino Valley, Ariz.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial were at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, at East Point cemetery near Russellville with Dave Bice officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.
Pallbearers were Frank Lemaster, Joe Tullis, Robert Tullis, Jamie Guinn, Erin Boxnick, and Burchie Lewis III.

Edna Bowman

Edna Bowman, 95, of Fort Smith, widow of Howard Bowman, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at her home.
A native of Denning, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Lily Hulse Raston, and graduate of Charleston High School.
She graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree from the University of the Ozarks and taught two years of English literature at Clarksville before receiving bachelor's and master's degree in library science from the University of Illinois.
She was a longtime supporter of the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville where she recently received the university's first annual Alumnus Legacy Award.
She was a reference librarian at Louisiana Tech and later took a position at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. While studying at the University of California, she accepted a position as technical research librarian for the Navy, serving first at the Naval Shipyard at Vallejo, then as head of the Naval Radiological Defense Laboratory Library in San Francisco and finally at San Diego where she was assigned to establish a branch library in the Underwater Sound Laboratory.
Survivors include three nephews, Leonard Ralston of Bethesda, Md., Bill Ralston of Fort Smith, and Patrick Ralston of Tucson, Ariz.
The body was cremated.
Arrangements were under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.

James H. Morris

James H. (Jimmy) Morris, 74, of Clarksville died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, at his home.
He was a son of the late Zearl C. and Martha Harris Morris, Navy veteran having served on the U. S. S. Tucker, retired parts manager, former employee of Clarksville Light and Water Company, member of the First Presbyterian Church in Clarksville and the Clarksville Fire Department, farrier, charter member of the Clarksville Riding Club, and a former golden glove champion, boxing coach and referee.
Survivors include his widow, Birdeena Adams Morris; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jan and Dave Moran and Jodi and Steve Garrison, all of Clarksville; two sisters, Mildred Hardwicke of Hagarville and Pauline Dickerson of Conway; three grandchildren, J. D. Jones of Clarksville, and Hope Harmon and Jay Coady, both of Fort Smith; and one great-grandchild, Noah Harmon.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, at the First Presbyterian Church in Clarksville with Rev. Lance Jones officiating.
Burial was in Hagarville cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were James Dickerson, Keith Dickerson, Larry Dickerson, Joel Davis, John Hull, and Andrew Hull.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 1068, Clarksville, AR 72830.

Jesse D. Thompson

Jesse Duncan Thompson, 85, of Clarksville died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a son of the late Joe Duncan and Eddith Roling Thompson, retired Air Force officer, member of the American Legion and Single Shot Rifle Association, and was preceded in death by one daughter, Dorothy L. Thompson; and two brothers, Joe W. Thompson and Raymond E. Thompson.
Survivors are his widow, Dorothy Budde Thompson; two sons, Jess D. Thompson of Arlington, Va., and Andrew D. Thompson of Edwardsville, Ill.; one brother, Claud W. Thompson of Colorado; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service with military honors was held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, at Roller-Cox Chapel.

Nelda C. Brown

Nelda Cleo Brown, 70, of Scranton died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, in Clarksville.
She was a daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson and Ola Myrtle Knight Mabry, widow of Lawton Presley Brown, retired factory employee, member of the Full Gospel Mission Church at Paris and VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and was preceded in death by one daughter, Judy Carolyn Burkett.
She is survived by two daughters, Nelda Jane Spicer of Scranton and Mary Lou Wood of Clarksville; one son, Christopher Douglas Brown of Scranton; one sister, Willene Mabry Noe of Paris; nine grandchildren, Robert Spicer, Keith Brown, Destinee Brown, Brittni Brown, Ashton Brown, Beth Dawson, Brian Crossno, Carolyn Ricono, and Rebecca Butler; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, at the Full Gospel Mission Church in Paris with burial in McKendree cemetery at Subiaco. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
Pallbearers were Tommy Johnston, Ken Jones, Ronnie Bradley, Doyle Benson, Billy Sam Hughes, Arlen Johnson, Kenny Thompson, Bill Burkett, Joe Matt Freeman, and Calvin Case.

Sharon P. Richards

Sharon P. Richards, 54, of Ozone died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at her home.
A native of Monroe, La., she was a daughter of the late Jack and Norma Reid Dean, graduate of Fortier High School in New Orleans, La., attended Southeast College in Louisiana, member of Norphlet Methodist Church and was a veterinary assistant with Clarksville Veterinary Clinic.
Survivors are her husband, Danny L. Richards; one daughter and son-in-law, Kahlil and Paul Rowett of Fayetteville; two sons, Sean Richards of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Russell Richards of New Orleans, La.; grandparent, Vivian Reid of Lamar; and two grandchildren, Daniel Rowett and Amber Rowett, both of Fayetteville.
The body was cremated.
Local arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Needy Paws Animal Shelter, 1100 East Main Street, Clarksville, AR 72830.

V. Eileen Bohannon

V. Eileen Bohannon, 80, of Harrison died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at Harrison Nursing Center.
She was a native of Deer, daughter of the late Joe and Ella Heydenreich Cowell, lifetime resident of Newton County, widow of Ira Bohannon, attended numerous churches, and was preceded in death by one brother, Devoe Cowell; and one sister, Jewell Hoppert.
She is survived by eight sons and seven daughters-in-law, Gene and Marie Bohannon of Clarksville, Harold and Geraldine Bohannon and Jerry and Brenda Bohannon, all of Rogers, Harl and Linda Bohannon of Deer, Harvey and Barbara Bohannon of Sapulpa, Okla., Jimmy and Laura Bohannon of Harrison, Roger and Cookie Bohannon of Cowell and Johnny Bohannon of Deer; and four daughters and two sons-in-law, Betty and Denny Dickard of Clarksville, Sharon Moore of Harrison, Mary and Jack Daniel of Sand Springs, Okla., and Kathy Cousins of Tulsa, Okla.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, in Coffman Chapel in Jasper with Bobbie Young officiating. Burial was in Deer cemetery.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Virginia O. Pentzer

Virginia Ogilvie Pentzer, 83, of Clarksville died Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of the Harmony Community, daughter of the late Stanford Burney and Pearl Dixon Garrett, member of Harmony Presbyterian Church, graduate of North Little Rock High School, and was preceded in death by her first husband, Barney H. Garrett; and one son, Bruce Garrett.
Survivors are her husband, Gerald A. Pentzer; two daughters, Candace Ann Krugh of Malvern and Melissa Webb of Hampton; one sister, Judith Garrett Baldwin of Maumelle; one grandchild, Rachel Strange of Huntsville; and one great-grandchild, Jacob Strange of Huntsville.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, at the Harmony Presbyterian Church with Rev. Bill Woodard officiating.
Burial will be in Harmony cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, at Hardwicke Funeral Home.
