The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Willis Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Mac’s Chapel Cemetery in Sulphur Rock.

Mary Steele
NEWARK - Mary Steele, 71, of Newark died Sunday, April 26, 2009, in a Little Rock hospital.
Born Aug. 17, 1937, in Cord, she was the daughter of Lotha and Erica Churchill Smith. She was a 1955 graduate of Cord-Charlotte High School, where she was valedictorian. She worked at the Bank of Newark for 18 years, serving as loan officer and branch manager. She was one of the original 14 employees who started First Community Bank in August 1997, serving as vice-president of new accounts. She assisted her husband with the financial management of his cattle operation.
James Garlin
James W. Garlin, 68, of Batesville died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at his home.
Born Oct. 15, 1940, in Batesville, he was the son of Onis W. and Elizabeth Heathcoat Garlin. He was an equipment operator for Galloway Sand and Gravel Company in Batesville. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Southside.
Zela Copeland NEWPORT - Zela Lee Copeland, 82, died Monday, June 1, 2009, in Newport.
Born July 21, 1926, in Melbourne, she was the daughter of T. Walter and Rosa Dale Lee.
Survivors include a son, Bobby H. Copeland of Phoenix; a sister, Vela-Jean Lee Grubbs Wagers of Newport; three grandchildren, Jill Copeland, Kirk Copeland and Michael Copeland; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo Copeland; four brothers, William Henry Lee, Lawrence Lee, Cecil Lee and Lonnie Francis Lee; and a sister, Veda Marie Lee Cullins.
Doyle Coles
Doyle Evans Coles, 79, of Batesville died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, in a Batesville hospital.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Roller-Crouch Funeral Home Chapel in Batesville. Burial will be in Lee’s Chapel Cemetery at Sandtown.
Pallbearers will be Roger Coles, Randy Coles, Ricky Coles, Kevin Coles, Robert Martin and Johnny Beard.
Honorary pallbearers are J.D. Cossey, Noel Mahan, Dr. Thomas Cummins and Charlie Reynolds.

Marylyn Beel Rowlett, 63, of Batesville died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at her home.
Born April 21, 1946, in Batesville, she was the daughter of Charlie and Jewell Brewer Beel. She was a graduate of Arkansas College (now Lyon College) and taught elementary school for 12 years at Pleasant Plains, Sulphur Rock and Cave City. She owned and operated Essie’s Gift Shop for 30 years and later opened another gift shop, Ollie’s.

CAVE CITY - Edward Marlin, 53, of Cave City died Monday, June 1, 2009, at his home.
Born July 5, 1955, at Batesville, he was the son of John and Irene McGuire Marlin. He was retired from the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department.

LULING, La. - James E. Dry, 68, of Luling, La., died Thursday, May 28, 2009.
He was a native of Newark and had been a resident of Luling for 41 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He retired from M.S. Benbow and Associates and Plumber and Steamfitters Local 60.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Sharon V. Dry; a son, Tracy J. LeMoine; and a daughter, Sherie Dry Gerdes; three grandchildren, Krista Crowe, Jonathan Crowe and Lexus LeMoine; a brother, Joe Dry; two sisters, Ruby D. Breckner and Ruth D. Murrell; and several nephews and nieces.

STEVENSVILLE, Mich. - Paul F. Bishop, 67, of Stevensville, Mich., died Sunday, March 22, 2009, in a Bridgman, Mich., retirement center.

Born Jan. 1, 1955, in Crystal Springs, Fla., he was the son of Henry Everett and Mary Lou Birmingham Corter. He was of the Pentecostal faith.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - LaWanda Smith Adams, 77, of Knoxville, Tenn., died Friday, March 20, 2009.
Born May 7, 1931, in Poinsett County, she was the daughter of Clyde and Mamie Daughty Smith. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was a secretary for Hagland and Venable Architects and had worked in sales at Sears Auto Center.

FORREST CITY - Glenn Earl Miller Jr., 60, of Forrest City died Sunday, March 22, 2009, in a Wynne hospital.
Born Aug. 28, 1948, in Lamar, Colo., he was the son of Glenn Earl Miller Sr. and Alice Dean Hunt Melby. He was a retired carpenter and house builder. He built a fishing pier in Newport, which has a plaque that bears his name. He was a Boy Scouts leader for several years in California. He enjoyed joking, cooking and cigars.

MELBOURNE - Rocco Anthony Calabrese Jr., 85, of Melbourne died Thursday, March 19, 2009, in Melbourne.
Born Dec. 5, 1923, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of Rocco Anthony Calabrese Sr. and Fulomena Calabrese. He was united in marriage to Ida M. Masciariello. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed as a jockey agent at numerous race tracks in Florida and Arkansas. He was of the Catholic faith.

VIOLET HILL - Margaret Louise Baker Blevins, 75, of Violet Hill died Wednesday, March 18, 2009, in Batesville.
Born March 3, 1934, in Tuckerman, she was the daughter of Alfred and Latha Yarberry Baker. She was united in marriage to Wilson Blevins on Nov. 24, 1954. She was employed by MarBax Shirt Company in Salem and Color Tile Flooring in Melbourne. She was a member of Myron Community Church.

NEW ORLEANS - Arthur Wayne Hickman, 56, of New Orleans died Wednesday, March 18, 2009, in a New Orleans hospital.
Born Oct. 22, 1952, in Jena, La., he was the son of Elmer Hickman Jr. and Ruth M. Coley McClary.
Survivors include his mother of Indianapolis; two sons, Kenneth Wayne Marks and David Allen Marks, both of Indianapolis; a brother, Eddie D. Green of Cave City; a stepsister, Lynn Chance of Cave City; three grandsons; and a nephew, Eddie D. Green Jr. of Panama City, Panama.
Clyde Hale
CALICO ROCK - Clyde W. Hale, 79, of Calico Rock died Tuesday, March 17, 2009, in Calico Rock.
He was born Sept. 27, 1929, in Calico Rock. He was united in marriage to Anne Francis Speak in 1949 in Oxford. He retired after 36 years of employment at Hampton Envelope Company in St. Louis and moved to Calico Rock. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include four cousins, Mayo Hale, Floyd Hale, Joe Hale and Mary Green.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years; his mother, Agnes Reeves; and his stepfather, Herman Reeves.
Tressie Haigwood
WYNNE - Tressie Bray Haigwood, 91, of Wynne died Monday, March 2, 2009, in a Wynne hospital.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Roller-Crouch Funeral Home Chapel in Batesville with Mike Silvey officiating. Burial will be in Lee’s Chapel Cemetery near Cave City.
Pallbearers will be Robin Bonham, Gregory Johnson, Brian Johnson, Dillon Tuell, Derrick Cathey and Lance Hall.
Honorary pallbearers are Carl Johnson, Royce Haigwood and Roland Bonham.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday.
