Shirley Morris
Shirley May Anderson Morris of Fort Smithdied Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, in Fort Smith. She was a graduate of Iowa Methodist School of Nursing and worked as a registered nurse and worked at Cooper Clinic, a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church and sang in the choir.
Funeral service was held Dec. 30 at Grand Avenue Baptist Church under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Schroeder Memorial Chapel in Boone, Iowa, with burial at Boone Memorial Park Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Paul; two daughters, Pamela Miille of Blackburn, Mo., and Cathleen Most of Van Buren; two sons, David Morris of Sioux City, Iowa, and Steven Morris of North Little Rock; two sisters, Charlene Anderson of Norwalk, Iowa, and Carolyn Nagle of Des Moines, Iowa; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Lulu Daversa
Lulu Brooks Daversa, 80, of Van Buren died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, at a local hospital. She was a homemaker, a Navy veteran, of the Catholic faith, a member of Women’s International Bowling Congress for 22 years, former house director of Vista Entertainment Center and the widow of Thomas Michael Daversa.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Eternal Hills Mortuary in Oceanside, Calif.Burial of cremains will be at Eternal Hills Memorial Park and Mortuary in Oceanside, Calif. Local arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Lavaca.
She is survived by a daughter, Debbie Andrews of Lavaca; a son, Thomas Michael Daversa of Escondido, Calif.; a brother, Lawrence Kavanaugh of Easton, Mass.; and three grandchildren.

Margaret House
Margaret Ann House, 60, of Alma died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, in Alma. She was an accountant for CCT Trucking in Van Buren and a member of First Baptist Church in Van Buren.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry; a daughter, Katie Duncan of Ozark; three sisters, Sharon Almond of Mulberry, Glenda Casteel of Vian and Connie Casteel of Alma; and two grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Dec. 30 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gill Cemetery in Van Buren.
Pallbearers were James and David Blackwell, Kevin, Scott, Ron and Robert Casteel.
Kyongyun Lee
Kyongyun Lee, 61, of Van Buren died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at a local hospital. He was a line worker at Tyson Foods in Van Buren and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Keumja; a daughter, Mijung Blemmel of Talihina, Okla.; two sons, Kyuho Lee of Fort Smith and Kyu Shun Lee of Van Buren; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Dec. 31 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Joe Blemmel, Kyuho Lee, Kyu Shun Lee and Rodney Myers.
Caroline Carrasco
Caroline Carrasco, 43, of Fort Smithdied Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002, in Fort Smith. She attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was a former certified nursing assistant for Medi-Homes Nursing Center.
Memorial mass was held Dec. 28 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with a private family burial at Holy Cross Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
She is survived by a son, David Daniel Esquivel of Van Buren.

Donald Ray Darden, 62, of Fort Smithdied Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at his home. He was a heavy equipment operator and retired from TAW in Mulberry.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; six daughters, Audra Lemus and Sherri Collins, both of Fort Smith, Terri Wilson and Janet Darden, both of California, Peggy Darden of Washington and Sandra Snell of Cedarville; a son, Ricky King of Arkoma; a stepdaughter, Robin Lensing of Fort Smith; three sisters, Shirley Cox and Donna Wheeler, both of Arkoma, and Sandra Overstreet of Fort Smith; and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Dec. 30 at Putman Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith.

Clyde Burrow
Clyde Burrow, 84, of Mulberry died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at a Little Rock hospital. He was born on Arbuckle Island and was a former General Motors employee in California.
Funeral service was held Dec. 30 at Dyer Cemetery Arbor with burial at Dyer Cemetery in Dyer under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home in Alma.
He is survived by a sister, Geneva Ricester of Wenatchee, Wash.
Eula Stephens
Eula Lenora Stephens, 86, of Van Buren died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at a local hospital.
She was retired from Radiant Glass Company, a homemaker and the widow of Odis Stephens.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gill Cemetery in Van Buren.
She is survived by two daughters, Marcella Horton of Fort Smith and Gina Lunsford of Van Buren; a son, Burl Stephens of Ozark; three sisters, Betty Fouty of Wenatchee, Wash.; Helen Rose of Kerrville, Texas; and Mary Monteza of Holland, Mich.; and seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mary Ellen Cobb, 91, of Fort Smithdied Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, at a local hospital. She was a homemaker, a member of New Bethel Assembly of God and the widow of Clyde M. Cobb.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty Carrington of Fort Smith; and a sister, Marie Loftin of Van Buren.

Harrold King
Harrold Ray King, 79, of Mulberry died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at his home. He was a member and deacon at First Baptist Church in Mulberry, worked 24 years for United Carbon Co. in Satanta, Kan., and Shamrock, Texas, and raised turkey and cattle for 27 years.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth; two daughters, Delorise Martin of Hackett and Sharon Kay Dearmond of Harrah, Okla.; a son, Carroll King of Austin, Minn.; three sisters, Irene Bundell of Springdale, Louise Brawner of Fort Smith and Suzie Duncon of Ozark; four brothers, Jack King of Ozark, John King of Shamrock, Texas, Champ King of Mulberry and Jimmy King of Mountainburg; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Mulberry with burial at New Cemetery in Mulberry under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.

Hazel Chitwood, 90, of Alma, formerly of Dyer, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002, in Alma. She was a homemaker and widow of D.C. Chitwood.
Survivors include one daughter, Kay Chitwood of Alma; one son, Scotty Chitwood of Ventura, Calif.; one sister, Ruth Mongold of Dyer; two brothers, Howard Kosier of Alma and Bob Kosier of San Antonio, Texas; one granddaughter, two great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Edwards Van-Alma Chapel. Burial will be at Dyer Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Mike, Keith and Jeremy Gregory, Joe Porter and Jimmy and Jerry Harris. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Preston, James A. Arnold, Sam Ludington, Joe Wayne Harris and Fines Batchelor.

Jessie Simco
Jessie Simco, 91, of Mountainburg died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at a local hospital. She was a retired cafeteria worker for the Mountainburg School System, member of Mountainburg Presbyterian Church, lifelong resident of Crawford County and widow of Seaph Simco.
Survivrs include one daughter, Patsy Goodner of Mountainburg; two sons, Jim Sico of Phoenix and Bill Simco of Memphis; and three grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mountainburg Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Conley Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Clyde Hayre, David Ross, Giles France, Jimmy Rogers, Gary Lee Marshell and Lanier France.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home until 9 a.m. Saturday.

Lillard Berna, 83, of Van Buren died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at a local nursing home. He attended Hamtown Baptist Church and was the widower of Georgia Berna.
Survivors include six daughters, Elizabeth Taylor, Barbara Price and Beverly Raper, all of Alma, Linda Pittser of Rudy, Judy Kirham of Mansfield and Teresa Wilson of Dyer; two sons, John Berna and Bobby Berna, both of Dyer; one brother, Ernest Berna of Lincoln, Neb.; 27 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral service was held Dec. 26 at New Cemetery in Mulberry under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.

Max Ross
Max W. Ross, 97, of Van Buren died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at a local nursing home. She was born in Danville, a former employee of Ward’s Furniture, a member of Maple Shade Church of the Nazarene and the widow of Leo Ross.
She is survived by three daughters, Juanita Spruill of Oklahoma City, Launita Certain of Elk City, Okla., and Virginia Sooter of Gentry; two sons, Clyde B. Ross of Alma and Earl Ross of Cookson, Okla.; 17 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Dec. 27 at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel in Alma with burial at New Berry Chapel Cemetery in Alma.

Gerald Campbell
Gerald Campbell, 63, of Mountainburg died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at his home. He was born in Bidville, was a cattleman and a Baptist.
He is survived by two daughters, Lee Ann Bowline and Kelly Campbell, both of Alma; three sisters, Geneva Shepherd of Sunset Community, Josephine Reed of Mountainburg and Lois Holt of Ringold, Ga.; three brothers, Bill, Thurman and Denver Campbell, all of Locke.

John Porter
John William Porter, 89, of Alma died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at a local nursing home. He was born in Dyer, an Army veteran of World War II, a member of Dyer Methodist Church and Disabled American Veterans and a retired farmer.
He is survived by a sister, Hazel Brown of Alma; and a brother, Stewart Porter of Alma.

“Bugs” Herman Beavers, 78, of Fort Smithdied Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, in Fort Smith.He was a retired plant manager for Sierra Corporation and an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was the widower of Gladys M. Beavers.
He is survived by two daughters, Jean Hawkins of Fort Smith and Sandy Hunter of Barling; a son, Charles Beavers of Fort Smith; a sister, Helen Shibley of Roland; a brother, Prince Beavers of Van Buren; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
