Joyce A. Ragsdale, 51, of Lamar died Thursday, July 24, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was retired, daughter of the late Shirley Lee Pitts Metzger, and was preceded in death by one brother, William Cleo Metzger.
Survivors include her husband, Ronald Ragsdale; one son, Michael Wayne Griffin of Lamar; father and stepmother Robert E. and Virgina Metzger of Knoxville; two sisters, Barbara Jean Wright of Arizona and Lavina Bethany Metzger of Pennsylvania; two brothers, Robert Lee Metzger of Nevada and Thomas Edward Metzger of Arizona; and five grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Monday, July 28, at the Minnow Creek cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Mary E. Domerese
Mary E. Domerese, 62, of Clarksville died Saturday, July 26, 2003, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Johnson County, daughter of the late Robert and Grace Griffith Pelts, and Pentecostal.
She is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Henry Dane Domerese Jr. and David Allen and Sharon Domerese, all of Coal Hill; two stepsons, Marvin Domerese and Edward Domerese, both of Coal Hill; one sister and brother-in-law, Linda Sue and Hiarm Stone of Fort Smith; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, at the Free Jesus Name Church in Coal Hill with Rev. David Zeiler officiating.
Burial was in Oakland cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Jerry Hicks, Bryan Domerese, Jimmy Sisk, Billy Paul Roberts, Joe Sexton, Patrick Crosby, Alan Clayborn, and Pedro Figueroa.
Nell Ruth Owens
Nell Ruth Owens, 72, of Sacramento, Calif., died Tuesday, July 8, 2003.
She was a former resident of Johnson County, daughter of the late Vaughn and Virga Patton Wimmer of Lamar, widow of Mason Owens, and was preceded in death by one sister, Marilyn Young of Coal Hill.
Survivors include one daughter, Verna Caruthers of Hohenwald, Tenn.; one grandson, William Caruthers of Spokane, Wash.; five great-grandchildren; four sisters, Lorene Lemons of Lamar, Linda Collins of Hunt, Betty Palmer of Puyallup, Wash., and Lela Potter of Tacoma, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Friday, July 11, in Sacramento, Calif. Burial was July 16 at Clark cemetery at Big A Mountain, Va., under the direction of Honaker Funeral Home.
Velma I. Woodson
Velma Ilene Mayfield Woodson, 68, of Oark died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, in Louisville, Ky.
A daughter of the late Walter and Belva Stewart Mayfield, she was preceded in death by one brother, Delmer Mayfield.
Survivors include her husband, Obert F. Woodson; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Melvin Hairrell of Texas and Dawn and Richard Clover of Kentucky; four sisters, Thelma King, Zelma Pruitt, Belma Clark and Melba Schindo, all of California; two brothers, Elmer Mayfield of Arkansas and Walter Mayfield of California; and five grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, July 28, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Mike Shields officiating. Burial was in the Batson cemetery.
Pallbearers were Anthony Hairrell, Jeffrey Clover, Alan Pruitt, Michael Hairrell, Kristin Clover, and Robert Mayfield.
Arthur R. Cordry
Arthur R. Cordry, 67, of Clarksville died Sunday, July 20, 2003, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Otterville, Mo., son of the late Harold and Reta Kuebler Cordry, spent 20 years in the Army and Air Force, where he was a helicopter pilot, former University of the Ozarks employee, and was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Lea Cordry; and two sisters, Rose Christian and Elizabeth Williams.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda Holland and Frances Pentzer, both of Clarksville; four brothers, Lester Cordry and David Kuebler, both of Arkansas, Gerald Cordry of Clarksville, and John Kuebler of Missouri; and six grandchildren, Jessica Powers, Brittany Vaught, Kaitlyn Hylton, Logan Pentzer, Sherri Pentzer, and Joston Pentzer, all of Clarksville.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bob Holt officiating. Burial will be in Stillwell cemetery.
Boice B. Donaldson
Boice B. Donaldson, 90, of Clarksville died Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at his home.
He was a native of Silex, son of the late Walter Marion and Allie Mayes Donaldson, owner of D & P Garage and Radiator Shop, member of First Baptist Church, pastor of Batson Church for several years, and was preceded in death by his wife, Elma Phillips Donaldson.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Jesse and Carla Donaldson of Clarksville; one grandson and wife, Greg and Emmy Donaldson of Clarksville; one great-grandson, Jace Allen Donaldson of Clarksville; and several nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 21, at Oakland cemetery. The body was cremated. Local arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Curtis J. Tyson
Curtis Jean Tyson, 87, of Huntsville, brother of Quita Rosewarren of Coal Hill, died Sunday, July 6, 2003, at his home.
He was born at Ozark, son of the late Robert Onslow and Almeda Jane Maxwell Tyson, U. S. Army veteran of World War II, an oil field pumper and a member of the Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include his widow, Opal Lavern Riley Tyson; four sons, Paul Tyson and David Allen Tyson, both of Elkins, Curtis Tyson Jr. of San Angelo, Texas, and Robert C. Tyson of Huntsville; two daughters, Mary Katherine Bowman of Crane, Texas, and Easter Almeda Shubert of Mountain Home; two stepsons, Bobby Willis of Huntsville and Charles Ray Willis of Kingston; one brother, Aubrey Tyson of Portland, Ind.; two other sisters, Vessie Ivey of Mulberry and Robbie Smith of Fort Smith; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, at Brashears Funeral Home in Huntsville with Rev. David Gilmer officiating. Burial was in Huntsville cemetery.
George W. Felkins
George Washington Felkins, 97, of Clarksville died Tuesday, July 15, 2003, in Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
He was a retired coal miner, member of the Hays Chapel Methodist Church, had owned and operated grocery stores in both Spadra and Clarksville, native of Clarksville, son of the late James Irvin and Missouri Tennessee Dillon Felkins, and was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Gean Felkins; and two sons, George Michael and Larry Von Felkins.
He is survived by four daughters and two sons-in-law, Patsy and Ed Paul of Ellijay, Ga., June Binam of Clarksville, Judy Stewart of Little Rock, and Marcia and Claud Dell Hall of Clarksville; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Shirley Felkins of Clarksville; one sister, Kizzy Head of Clarksville; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Friday, July 18, at the Oakland cemetery with Rev. David Zeiler officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Iladean Russell
Iladean Russell, 76, of Tacoma, Wash., a native of Clarksville, died Tuesday, July 15, 2003.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Irvin Russell; two daughters, Deborah Stirret and husband, Douglas Stirret, of Roy, Wash., and Tammie Dayton and husband, Robert Dayton, of University Place, Wash., four granddaughters, Jennifer Stirret-Jones and husband, Kevin Jones; Jillian Stirret, McKenzie Rust and Amber Dayton; two sisters, Barbara Smith and Carolyn Wadley of Lamar; and one brother, Dorvan Ashlock.
Funeral was at 11 a.m. Friday, July 18, at Fir Lane Funeral Home Chapel in Spanaway, Wash.
Jerry Don Hickey
Jerry Don Hickey, 59, died July 14, 2003, in Antioch, Calif.
He was a native of Clarksville, son of the late Bob and Lorene Tipton Hickey, and attended Lamar School before moving to California. He was a retired construction employee.
He is survived by two daughters, Michelle and Jennifer of California; two brothers, Larry and Gary, both of California; two grandchildren; two nephews; several uncles and aunts, including Harlan and Jean Tipton and Ethel Bougher, all of Clarksville; and several cousins in Arkansas, Tennessee, Oklahoma and Louisiana.
The body was cremated.
James H. Taylor
James Herman Taylor, 63, of Hartman died Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at the Ozark Nursing Home.
He was born in Burnips, Mich., the son of the late Cash Edwin and Blanche McElhaney Taylor, and was a retired equipment operator with International Union Operating Engineers.
Survivors are his widow, Elzora Taylor; four daughters, Melinda Fisette of Kuno, Idaho, Brenda Pistolas of Jessup, Md., and Amy Murphy and Dee Scott, both of Casey, Ill.; two stepdaughters, Lisa Jeffers of Charleston and Debbie Lenning of Harrison, Mich.; two sons, J. C. Chambers of West Virginia and Dana Taylor of Casey, Ill.; one stepson, Duane Hughey Jr. of Clarksville; two sisters, Carolyn Smith of Lima, Ohio, and Donna Jones of Casey, Ill.; and 16 grandchildren.
Graveside services were at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at the Coal Hill cemetery with burial under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
