Gladys Sharon Wells, 60, of Clarksville died Friday, Oct. 8, 2004, at her home.
She had lived in the Lamar and Clarksville areas the past seven years. She and her late husband, Max D. Wells Sr., were retired employees of Rohr Industries in Chula Vista, Calif.
Survivors include two daughters, Lori Tieri Wells of Little Rock and Michelle Wilkerson of Clarksville; one son, Max D. Wells Jr. of Seattle, Wash.; mother, Aldine Dege of Clarksville; two sisters, Patty Yeoman and Pamela Feltz, both of West Virginia; three grandchildren, Robin Wilkerson of Clarksville, Heather Montgomery of South Fork, Colo., and Mitch Wells of Crane, Mo.; one son-in-law, Carmine Tieri of Lamar; one niece, Bobbie Warren of Oark; and two grand-nephews, Joseph Pelts and Chris Pelts, both of Oark; among all her friends.
The body was cremated. Local arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
A special thanks to all the Johnson County Hospice workers for all the care and support they have provided to our family throughout the final months of Gladys Wells' life. We couldn't have done without them.
Lee Nesbitt
Lee Nesbitt, 87, of Clarksville died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
A native of Clarksville, he was a son of the late Chester Lee and Delphia Ernest Nesbitt, Navy veteran of World War II, and member of American Legion Bunch Walton Post No. 22, Woodland Missionary Baptist Church and Johnson County Roundup Club.
Survivors include his widow, Lorene Mayfield Nesbitt; one daughter, Carol Lee Nesbitt of Clarksville; one son, Stanley Nesbitt of Clarksville; two grandchildren, Andrea LaPoint and Kristi J. Bradley, both of Clarksville; and two great-grandchildren, Lindsey Avlois and Jacob Alan Bradley, both of Clarksville.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 8, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. George Farquhar officiating. Burial was in Woodland cemetery.
Pallbearers were K. P. Harvey, Harold Wayne Harvey, Donald Meek, Dutch Houston, Sonny James, and Wendell Self.
Philip R. Smith
A memorial service for Philip R. Smith, Cdr., USNR (Ret.), 70, of La Jolla, Calif., a native of Paris and former resident of Ozone, who died Aug. 10, 2004, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at the First United Methodist Church in Paris.
Reba J. Smith
Reba Jewell Smith, 80, of Clarksville died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004, at St. Anthony's Health Care Center in Morrilton.
She was a nursing home administrator, member of New Life Christian Center Inc., and daughter of the late Harrison Levi McDonald and Laura Jane McCleland.
Survivors include one son, Dr. Jack E. Glaze of Clarksville; one sister, Wilma Rahmeyer of Whittier, Calif.; two granddaughters, Davina Brashears of Aiken, S. C., and Heather Thompson of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and five great-grandchildren, David Thompson, Alicia Thompson and Mary Thompson, all of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Elizabeth Brashears and Emily Brashears of Aiken, S. C.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 8, at McDonald Family cemetery at West Fork. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Tommy J. Westover
Tommy J. Westover, 82, of Hartman died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, at his home.
He was a native of the Spadra Community, son of the late Carl and Sadie McKinney Westover, Navy veteran of World War II, member of Sunflower Masonic Lodge in Wichita, Kan., retired coal miner, retired from Northtrop Corporation in California as a janitor, former Johnson County baseball player, and was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Epperson Westover.
Survivors include one daughter, Donna Garner of Oregon; one son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Glenda Westover of Hartman; three grandchildren, Michelle Bowen and Brian Johnson, both of Hartman, and Keith Johnson of Oregon; and two great-grandchildren, Jimmy and Johnny.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with burial in West Mount Zion cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Carl Westover, Joseph Snowman, Mike Wilson, James Epperson, Shawn Brannon, and Mike Swain.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jackie Thomas, Jack Epperson and Vernon Harris.
Champ Carlisle Jr.
Champ Vernon Carlisle Jr., 67, of Ozark, formerly of Clarksville, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, at Mercy Hospital/Turner Memorial in Ozark.
He was a native of Ozark, son of the late Champ Vernon and Joe-Abegail Parker Carlisle, retired tire salesman, Army veteran, and member of Coal Hill VFW.
Survivors include his wife, Colleen Carlisle; two daughters, Tracy Davies of Tulsa, Okla., and KaLynn Showalter of Independence, Kan.; two sons, Champ Carlisle III of Tooele, Utah, and Scott Carlisle of Tulsa, Okla.; five sisters, Jane Madayag of Eugene, Ore., Sue Enriques of Broken Arrow, Okla., Nancy Mason of Little Rock, Judy Martin of Longmont, Colo., and Virginia Dawson of Pawhuska, Okla.; two brothers, Len Carlisle of Tulsa, Okla., and Danny Joe Carlisle of Sand Springs, Okla.; and six grandchildren.
Memorial services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, at the family home south of Ozark with arrangements under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.
Della P. Harvey
Della Park Harvey, 81, of Clarksville died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Fort Douglas, daughter of the late Charlie Newton and Inez Horner Park, and member of Trinity Chapel Church.
Survivors include her husband, John Harvey; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jim D. and Carolyn Harvey of Clarksville, Gary L. and Susan Harvey of Spring Hill, Kan., and Randy C. Harvey of Tulsa, Okla.; one brother and sister-in-law, Loy and Verladean Park of Clarksville; three grandchildren, Sheila Bjorkman of Greeley, Colo., Steven Harvey of Greenwood, and Gary Keith Harvey of Chicago, Ill.; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at Trinity Chapel Church with Rev. Terry Schlinker and Rev. Bob Freeman officiating.
Burial was in Shady Grove cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Mike Buckner, Frank Patton, Wendell Self, Larry Harvey, Rick Harvey, and Doug Harvey.
Honorary pallbearers were Tom Patton, Virgil Blake, Raymond Hudson, Marvin Walker, and Gary Johnson.
Geneva Hardgrave
Geneva Ritchie Hardgrave, 90, of Little Rock passed away on October 16, 2004.
She was born in Pettigrew, AR in Madison County on September 3, 1914. She lived most of her life in Coal Hill and Clarksville, AR. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Clarksville and volunteered at the church thrift shop for many years. She worked at the IGA grocery store in Clarksville for over 16 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Hardgrave, her parents, John and Florence Ritchie, her daughter, Betty Jean Robertson and her husband, William R. Robertson of Little Rock, her son-in-law, Eddie Rose, two sisters, Fannie Hurst and Alta Hardgrave, and two brothers, Edward Ritchie and Burl Ritchie.
She is survived by one daughter, Reba Rose of Little Rock; four grandson, Larry Rose, David Rose, Darren Rose and Dr. Wade W. Robertson and his wife, Angie; one granddaughter, Emily Kennedy and husband, Michael; one great-grandson, Adam Rose, all of Little Rock and North Little Rock.
Her five grandsons and one great-grandson will act as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be H. D. Griffin and Larry Jones.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 19, 2004, at 10 a.m. in the chapel at the Hardwicke Funeral Home with Reverend Lance Jones presiding.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Arkansas Research Center UAMS Family Home, 4300 Markham, Little Rock, AR 72205 or the First Presbyterian Church in Clarksville.
Henry Perry
Henry Perry, 59, of Ozark, father of William Perry of Hartman, died Friday, Oct. 8, 2004, at his home.
He was born at Mulberry, son of the late Jim and Edna Faye Cowans Perry, and former employee of Cargill.
Survivors include one other son, James Perry of Ozark; four sisters, Beulah Stillwell of Mulberry, Martha Teague of Alma, Charlene Sue of Georgia and Trina Moore of Van Buren; two brothers, John Perry of Dyer and Gary Perry of Alma; and four grandchildren.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at McLaughlin cemetery under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.
Larry L. Finn
Larry Lawerance Finn, 55, of Pettigrew died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at his home.
He was a native of Fayetteville, farmer, member of the Full Gospel Mission in Fayetteville, and served in the Arkansas Army National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Loetta Vire Finn; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Heath and Cindy Finn of Farmington, and L. E. Finn and Lukas Finn, both of the home; parents, James Richard and Rosie Theresa DellaRosa Finn of Tontitown; two brothers, Frank Finn of Plano, Texas, and Richard Finn of Elm Springs; one sister, Barbara Holcombe of Fort Smith; and two granddaughters, Ashlyn Finn and Meghan Finn, both of Farmington.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at the Pine Grove cemetery with Mary Kilpatrick, Dorothy Hilton, Doyle Baker and Jeff Burley officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home of Huntsville.
Pallbearers were David Lawson, Jerrad Berry, Les Skaggs, Chris Harriman, Chris Lassiter and Mike Witt.
