Howard Buer
Howard H. Buer, 82, of Fairfield Bay died Thursday, March 25, 2004. He was born January 14, 1922 at Milwaukee, WI to Hertha and Henry Buer; held his master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Wisconsin, and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Triangle Engineering Fraternity, and of Tau Beta Phi and Chi Epsilon, honors fraternities.
He had taught civil engineering at his alma mater, and also at the University of Delaware, designed bridges for the state of Wisconsin and headed up computer centers at several colleges and schools.
He was a past master of his Masonic Lodge, was a member of Scimitar Temple, AAONMS, had served as president of Fairfield Bay Shrine Club, was a member of the Scottish Rite Masonic bodies and had served as president of the FFB Rotary Club.
He had been a resident of the Bay for 15 years, and was a Christian.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Raymir Behrens Buer; a daughter, Karen, of Ballwin, MO, and a son, Scott, of Omaha, NE, three grandchildren and a brother, Gordon Buer of Dover, NJ.
Crematory arrangements were by Roller-McNutt Funeral Home of Clinton; a private memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
Robert Ruff
Robert E. Ruff of Clinton died Thursday, March 25, 2004 after a long illness. He was born and raised in Dallas, TX and attended Dallas schools, and later attended Texas Christian University, Ft. Worth, where he played on a winning football team in the Cotton Bowl.
He married
Dana Davenport of Clinton in 1950, and has three sons, Mike, Pat and Steve; all survive.
He worked in the engineering department of Brown & Root Construction Co. for 37 years; after retirement he and his wife moved to their farm near Clinton.
Other survivors include three grandsons.
Graveside services were held Saturday, March 27 at Clinton cemetery with Bill Saxby officiating.
Arrangements were by Roller-McNutt of Clinton.
Edgar Fine
Edgar Lyle Fine, 82, of Dardanelle died Friday, March 26, 2004 at the Dardanelle Rehabilitation Center. He was born January 6, 1922 at Elmo, MO, to the late Oliver Claude and Mary Jane Moffitt Fine. He was a veteran of World War II with service in the U.S. Army; was a rural mail carrier and member of Fairfield Bay United Mehtodist Church. He was also a member of the Bay VFW Post #4513, and of the National Rural Letter Carriers Association. He was preceded in death by three brothers, an infant, and Orris Fine and Fred Fine.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Marian Bowman Fine; three sons and daughters-in-law, Edward and Shelly Fine of Crow Mountain (Pope County), Charles and Patricia Fine of Dardanelle, and Andrew and Glenda Fine of Lawson, MO; three daughters a son-in-law, Ulva Eldridge of Richmond, MO, Mary and Roland Loch of Pickering, MO and Joy Blocker of Cash, OK; a brother and three sisters-in-law, John and Eva Fine of Hopkins, Ardith Fine, also of Hopkins, and Youvaun Fine of Bedford, IA; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.
Crematory arrangements were by Cornwell Funeral Home of Dardanelle; a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Joseph Clutts
Joseph Scott Clutts, 18, of Hollister, MO died at home Friday, March 26, 2004, after a long battle with cancer.
He was born December 11, 1985 at Harrison, the son of Jimmy Clutts of Branson, MO and Glenna West Clutts of Hollister. He was a senior at Hollister High School and a member of First Baptist Church of Hollister.
Survivors include his parents; two sisters, Kelly Gail McGowan of Springfield, MO and Shasta Leeann Kennon of Hollister; grandparents Doyle and Ilene West and John and Dorothy Clutts, all of Leslie, and three nieces.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 28 at First Baptist Church at Branson with Rev. Jay Scribner and Rev. Frank Shell officiating. Interment was Monday, March 29 at Liberty cemetery at Chimes with arrangements by Greenlawn Funeral Home of Branson.
Memorial donations may be made to the Joseph Clutts Memorial Scholarship Fund at Ozark Mountain Bank, or Hollister High School.
Billy Linn
Billy Joe Linn, 83, of Bee Branch died Saturday, March 27, 2004 at Ozark Health Nursing Center in Clinton. He was born February 20, 1920 at Bee Branch, and was a loving husband and father.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Linn; a daughter, Gloria Macklin, his father and a sister.
Survivors include a daughter, Billie Sue Stephens; a son, Carroll Lynn Pouncey; a sister, Nina Ruth Smith; his mother Corine Linn, two grandchildrn and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday, March 30 at Roller-McNutt Chapel with interment at Hardin cemetery by Roller-McNutt.
Anna Lea Cates
Anna Lea Cates, 72, of Shirley died Friday, March 26, 2004 at her home. She was born April 12, 1931 at Shirley, the daughter of the late James E. and Bertha Thompson Gibbons. she was a homemaker, a loving wife and mother and attended the General Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband L.C. Cates of the home; two daughters, Debra Williams of Shirley and Brenda Foster of Mountain View; a sister, Beatrice Brown of Clinton, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held Monday, March 29 at Shirley Community Church with Bobby Ward and James Hutto officiating. Interment was at Settlement cemetery by Roller-McNutt of Clinton.
Active pallbearers included Brent Williams, Kyle Foster, David Havelitz, Paul Loeschner, Chris Gray and Danny Cates.
Honorary pallbearers were Wendell Watts, Norman Watts, Carlos Murray and Ronnie Brown.
Jewell Campbell
Jewell Dean Bramlett Campbell, 60, of Clinton died Saturday, March 27, 2004. She was born January 28, 1944 at Clinton, the daughter of O.C. and Mary Gardner Bramlett. She was a homemaker and a Christian.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Survivors include two brothers, Cecil Bramlett of Leslie and Wade Bramlett of Clinton; five sisters, Sally Tomlinson of Newark and Margaret Griffith, Betty Bramlett, Ruby Kirkendoll and Lorene Sigler, all of Clinton.
Services were held Tuesday, March 30 at Half Moon Church with interment at Half Moon cemetery by Roller-McNutt of Clinton.
Denver Maxwell
Denver D. Maxwell, 86, of Clinton died Tuesday, March 23, 2004. He was born August 6, 1917 at Formosa to Cora Martin Maxwell and William T. Maxwell. He was a veteran of World War II with 37 months in combat in North Africa and Europe.
He married
Mildred McKnight in 1945 after his return from duty; worked for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, KS for 30 years, and retired and moved to Clinton in 1981.
Survivors include his wife Mildred; their daughter Carol and husband Wesley Mason; two grandsons, three great-granddaughters, a brother, Lenton Maxwell, and nine nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 26 at Clinton First Baptist Church with Bill Saxby and Tom Shaw officiating. Interment was at Quattlebaum cemetery by Roller-McNutt of Clinton.
Pallbearers included Ron Maxwell, Bill Maxwell, David Maxwell, Mickey Parish, Ken Quattlebaum and Patrick Knight.
Memorials may be made to Project Jubilee at Clinton First Baptist Church.
Talmadge Treat
Talmadge Geraldine Treat, 81, of Indiana died Friday, March 26, 2004 in Indiana. She was born January 28, 1923 at Marshall to the late Roy and Bertha Pemberton, and was retired from Target Stores, Inc. in Mishiwaka, IN.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy Russell Treat, and by a brother, Charlie Pemberton.
Survivors include her sons, Jim Treat of Niles, MI and Ben Treat of New Palestine, IN; daughters, Rena Lynch of Clinton, Brenda Versmesse of Mishawaka and Pam Torzski of Mishawaka; a brother, Leon Pemberton of Wichita, KS; sisters Roylene Arnold of Merced, CA and Ernestine Gray of Fresno, CA, 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
Services were held Wednesday, March 31 graveside at East Lawn cemetery at Marshall with Don Patterson officiating, under the direction of Roller-Coffman of Marshall.
Pallbearers included Dale Lynch, Jason Lynch, Troy Treat, Jack Treat, Joe Treat, Donnie Horton, Tommy Horton and Gary Massey.
Honorary pallbearers were J.C. Pemberton, Wilber Lee Pemberton and Darrell Pemberton.
James Mizell
James Samuel Mizell, 72, of Heber Springs died Monday, May 3, 2004 at his home. He was born October 29, 1931 on Crowell Mountain near Scotland to Jesse and Ella Hutcheson Mizell. He spent most of his life and was retired as a timber worker, and had lived most of his life in Van Buren County.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by one brother, Bill Mizell
Survivors include a son Larry and wife Susan of Wasilla, AK; two sisters, Polly and husband Wallace Weeks of Monroe, LA and Wanda Blair of Lowell; seven grandchildren, and a number of aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service was held Friday, May 28 at Walnut Grove cemetery near Scotland. Arrangements were by Olmstead Funeral Home of Heber Springs.
