Dean Sims

Mr. Dean Sims, age 43, of Genoa, Arkansas, died Thursday, March 18, 2010, in a local hospital.

Dean was born August 16, 1966, at Texarkana, Texas and had lived all of his life in Miller County, Arkansas. He attended the Jonesville Community Church at Fouke and was a Laborer. He was preceded in death by his father, Harlon L. Sims.

Survivors include one son, Christopher Sims of Fouke, Arkansas, his mother, Sleata Jones Sims of Genoa, Arkansas, and three brothers, Leon Sims, Brian Ray Sims, and Doyle Sims, all of Genoa, Arkansas, and a number of aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives.

Services will be at 2:00 P. M. Monday at the Texarkana Funeral Home Arkansas Chapel with Rev. Roger Mixon officiating. Burial will be at East Memorial Gardens.

THE FAMILY WILL RECEIVE FRIENDS AT THE FUNERAL HOME FROM 6 PM UNTIL 8 PM SUNDAY.

THE FAMILY WILL BE AT THEIR RESIDENCE, 1645 MC 62, GENOA.

JAMES HAMILTON

James D. Hamilton, age 54, of Fulton, AR died Saturday, March 13, 2010 at his residence. Mr. Hamilton was born April 16, 1955 in Hope, AR. He was an equipment operator and a Navy veteran.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John and Summer Hamilton of St. Cloud, FL.; three brothers, Joe Hamilton of Genoa, AR., Carl Hamilton of Texarkana, TX. and Eugene Hamilton of Blanchard, LA.; one granddaughter, Ashley Hamilton of St. Cloud, FL. and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorial services will be 11:00 AM Thursday March 18, 2010 at Millwood Baptist Church in Ashdown, AR with Bro. Tim Perkins officiating under the direction of Texarkana Funeral Home, TX.

Marjorie Ann Pickering
(October 7, 1940 - August 22, 2011)

Marjorie Ann Pickering, 70, of Texarkana, AR, died Monday, August 22, 2011, in a local hospital. She was born October 7, 1940, in Texarkana, AR. She was a retired florist and was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Pickering.

She is survived by two sons, Todd Pickering and Daniel Pickering; two daughters and a son-in-law, Robin and James Hammonds and Ree Pickering; two step-sons, Ivan Pickering and wife, Dana, and Mike Pickering; one step-daughter, Glenda Pickering; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Larry Copeland of Texarkana, TX, and Nancy and Howard Long of Finksburg, MD; one brother and sister-in-law, Robbie and Vicki Meadows of Simms, TX; two grandchildren, Molly Davlin of New Boston, TX, and Baley Pickering of Simms, TX; a special friend, Tom Webb of Texarkana, AR; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, August 25, 2011, at Texarkana Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Larry Nobles officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park under the direction of Texarkana Funeral Home, Texas.

The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 P.M. Wednesday, August 24, 2011, at Texarkana Funeral Home, Texas.

Memorial contributions may be made to Opportunities, Inc., the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Foundation.

John Henry Vanderbilt, Jr.

John Henry (Vandy) Vanderbilt, Jr., age 80, of Texarkana, Arkansas, died Tuesday, February 23, 2010, in a local nursing home.

Mr. Vanderbilt was born January 23, 1930, at Texarkana, Texas, and had lived most of his life in Texarkana. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and was retired from the United States Air Force and the United States Postal Service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Vanderbilt, one daughter, Linda Jean Vanderbilt, and one son, Douglas Vanderbilt.

Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Rickey and Kim Vanderbilt of Mobile, Alabama, Jeff Vanderbilt of Prescott, Arkansas, and Pat and Jamie Vanderbilt of Maumelle, Arkansas, one sister, Barbara Jean Bussell of Keithville, Louisiana, eleven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services with military rites will be at 1:00 P. M. Saturday at East Memorial Gardens with Rev. Royce Kinsey officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Texarkana Funeral Home, Arkansas.

Celso Flores

Mr. Celso Garza Flores, age 84, of Hope, Arkansas, died Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at his son's residence in Texarkana, Arkansas.

Mr. Flores was born July 12, 1925, at Allende Coahuila, Mexico, and had lived in Hope for the past 35 years. He was a retired restaurant operator.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Flores of Hope, Arkansas, three sons and two daughters-in-law, Daniel and Kim Flores of Texarkana, Arkansas, Celso Flores, Jr. of Hope, Arkansas, and Ruben and Wyndy Flores of Jackson, Mississippi, three daughters and sons-in-law, Silvia and Steve Page of Jackson, Mississippi, Elizabeth and Dean Thompson of Jackson, Mississippi, and Leticia and Rogelio Rodriguez of Mexico, fifteen grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 P. M. Friday at the Texarkana Funeral Home Arkansas Chapel with Rev. Carroll Bryant officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens cemetery at Hope.

THE FAMILY WILL RECEIVE FRIENDS AT THE FUNERAL HOME FROM 6 PM UNTIL 8 PM THURSDAY.

THE FAMILY WILL BE AT THE HOME OF DANIEL AND KIM FLORES, 1930 MILLER COUNTY ROAD 28, TEXARKANA, ARKANSAS.

Charles Atkison

Charles F. Atkison, age 90, of Texarkana, Arkansas died February 27, 2010, in a local nursing home.

Mr. Atkison was born March 13, 1919, in Wickes, Arkansas. He was a Baptist, a Retired Mechanic and had served in U.S. Army in World War II and later served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves.

He was preceded in death by his son, Charles Ray Atkison.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Judi and Joe Eades of Texarkana, Arkansas; two sisters Mittie Andry and Sadie Thompson of Roseburgh Oregon; two grandsons and their wives, Robert and Sherri Eades of Eminence, Kentucky and Shawn and Missy Atkison of Ozark, Arkansas; a granddaughter and her husband, Dia and John Harvin of Texarkana, Texas; one special Nephew and his family Jerry Hill of Texarkana, Arkansas; 6 great grandchildren and numerous other relatives.

Funeral Services will be 1 P.M. Thursday at Texarkana Funeral Home, Arkansas with Robert Eades officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove cemetery, Cove, Arkansas.

Visitation will be from 6-7:30 Wednesday at Texarkana Funeral Home, Arkansas.

James Ashley Davis

James Ashley Davis, age 38, of Texarkana, Arkansas left this world on Saturday, February 27, 2010.

James was born November 2, 1971, at Texarkana, Texas, and had lived all of his life in Texarkana. He attended Arkansas High School and was a Supervisor at East Memorial Gardens. He loved anything to do with the outdoors, camping, fishing, and boating, and spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father, brother and son to those he left behind.

Survivors include his wife, Amanda Davis of Texarkana, Arkansas, two sons, James Austyn Davis and Luke Edward Davis of Texarkana, Arkansas, his mother, Mattie Thomason of Texarkana, Arkansas, three sisters and one brother-in-law, Melissa and Manuel Martinez, Michelle Davis, and Jennifer Keathley of Texarkana, Arkansas, two nephews, Kristopher Williams and Alex Williams, and two nieces, Eva Martinez and Mercury Keathley.

A celebration of his life will be at 2:00 P. M. Wednesday at the Texarkana Funeral Home Arkansas Chapel with Rev. Paul Beard officiating. Burial will be at Chapelwood Memorial Gardens.

Freda Alene O'Day

Freda Alene Haynes O’Day, age 66, of Texarkana, AR died Thursday, March 4, 2010 in a local nursing center.

Mrs. O’Day was born May 21, 1943 in Hope, AR. She was a member at Trinity Baptist Church and was an entrepreneur and was the originator of the Texarkana Rhythm Marchers. .

She is survived by her husband, Elmer Lee O’Day of Texarkana, Ar, two daughters, Donna Haynes Dobson and Geoff Dobson of Temple, TX, Connie Haynes of Texarkana, TX; four grandchildren, Bryan Dobson, Jillian Caswell, Erik and Morgan Dobson, Brittni Nottingham, four great-granchildren and a brother , Joe Bob and O’Bryant of Texarkana, TX.

Services will be Saturday at 1 P.M. at Texarkana Funeral Home, TX with John Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Ridge cemetery in Prescott, AR at 3:30 PM Saturday.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1 PM today at Texarkana Funeral Home, TX
