John William Stotts
John William Stotts, 83, of Three Rivers Nursing Center in Marked Tree; died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001 at Methodist Central Hospital in Memphis.
He was a retired farmer, a veteran, and of the Church of Christ belief.
He was awarded five Bronze Stars while serving in five major campaigns in the European Theatre of Operations during World War II.
Survivors include two sisters: Virginia Stotts of Lepanto and Marguerite Hattle of West Memphis; and one brother, Joe Stotts of Lepanto.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Thursday at Murphy Funeral Home Chapel in Lepanto, with Bill Jordan officiating.
Burial followed at Potter Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Stanley Hattle, Dean Hattle, Gerald Newman, James Roberson, Darrel Strayhorn, and Edward Allred.
The family requests that memorials for John William Stotts be given to the Lepanto Church of Christ or the Children's Home in Paragould.
Mack Crow
Services for Mack Crow will be at 2 p.m., Friday, Sep.21, at the First United Methodist Church in Marked Tree.
Mr. Crow was born in Magness, Ark. March 8, 1907, and died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001.
Mack Crow was a farmer by occupation, but his hobby was making life better for the people in his community, county and state.
He served on the Poinsett county Tax Equalization Board for 40 years, retiring in 1997 at the age of 90, because he thought "it might be time to have some 'new blood' on the panel."
For 44 years he was active as a board member of the local drainage district helping control the flooding problems in his region.
He found time to serve for 35 years on the School board of the marked tree school system.
For 20 years he was board member of the Solid conservation department.
He served five years as juvenile probation officer for Poinsett County, counseling troubled youth and their families.
Until recently he was an active member of the First Methodist Church serving on its board for 10 years and was a 60-year member of The men's Bible class, all of whom will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Crow and his wife, Bobbie had a great interest in Tennessee Walking horses, and in the 70's won the National Walking Horse Celebration in Shelbyville, Tenn., with their entry, Cool Hand Luke.
Later, they were to repeat their winning with the High Chaparral.
Crow is survived by his daughter, Roberta Crow Price and her husband, Dr. James A. Price of Jackson, Tenn.; a sister, Mrs. Mary Crow Shields of Newark, Ark.; his daughter-in-law, Judy Shaw Crow; his granddaughter, Catherine Price McKnight and husband, Dr. Donald T. McKnight and their children, Thomas, Kate, and Price McKnight of Jackson, Tenn.; two grandsons, Robert M. Price, and wife, Lisa of Franklin, Tenn., and James A. Price, III and wife, Kecia and their two sons, Brandon and Cody Price of Watchung, N.J.; and a host of friends.
He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Bobbie Walt Crow; his son, Mack Crow, Jr.: and two grandsons, Lance and David Crow.
Memorial should be directed to the First United Methodist church in Marked Tree.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at the Murphy Funeral Home in Marked Tree.
Services are under the direction of the Murphy Funeral Home
Mrs. Levoy Nelson
Mrs. Levoy Nelson, 74, of Lepanto, passed away Monday, April 9, 2001 at her home.
Mrs. Nelson was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
She was a salesperson and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by one son and her husband, Hilary T. Nelson.
Survivors include one son, Robert Stutts of Lepanto; one daughter, Ginger Staggs of West Memphis; one sister, Kitty Jabenson of Joplin, Mo.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were scheduled to be held today, April 12, at Murphy Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Gonzales officiating.
Burial was in Potter Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Murphy Funeral Home.
Roger Dean Tucker
Roger Dean Tucker, 44, of Birdsong died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at his residence.
He was a construction worker and an Army veteran.
Survivors include a son, Roger Tucker of Chicago; a daughter, Conesha Nicole Blake of Chicago; his father, George Tucker Sr. of Birdsong; three sisters, Teresa Brown of Tyronza, Carolyn Tucker of Marion and Barbara Holloway of Birdsong; and two brothers, George Tucker Jr. of Memphis and Ricky Turner of Birdsong.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ollie Cuble.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Zion Church in Denwood, with the Rev. Johnnie Miller officiating.
Burial will follow in Gilfield Cemetery at Birdsong under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home of Tyronza.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Lillian Phillips
Lillian Phillips, 83, of Osceola died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003 at St. Bernard's Medical Center.
She was a member of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as an usher and was on the mother board.
Survivors include one daughter, Shirley D. Phillips of Osceola; one sister, Lillie M. Willis of Chicago; one brother, Richard Clay of Chicago; and one grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Phillips, and her parents, James and Mamie Carthan.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29 at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church of Osceola, with the Rev. Cleavland Cain officiating.
Burial followed at Whiteside Cemetery under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home of Osceola.
Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
