Daylon Cortez Lattimore
Daylon Cortez Lattimore, one-month-old, of Forrest City, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, at his home.
He was born Sept. 13, 2001, in Forrest City, and was the son of Kenneth Lattimore and Marquetta Burnside, both of Forrest City.
He is survived by his parents and three brothers, Keyontae Smith of Forrest City, Kenneth Lattimore Jr., of Wynne and Ja-Marie Lattimore of Dallas, Texas.
A graveside funeral service was held on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at Forrest City Cemetery with Rev. John Strong officiating the service under the direction of Clay Funeral Home.
Pearl E. Miller
Mrs. Pearl E. Miller, age 87, of Forrest City, died Saturday, Oct. 20, at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Forrest City.
Mrs. Miller was born Sept. 22, 1914, and was the daughter of Jefferson Franklin Pinely and Delitha Arzonia Flatt Pinely. She worked as a sales clerk prior to retirement and was a Baptist.
Mrs. Miller is survived by one son, Curtis Bittle of Madera, Calif.; three daughters, Janice Collins of Orange Cove, Calif., Patsy Hawkins of Forrest City and Paula Bays of Edmond, Okla.; a sister, Alma Arnold of Clovis, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Miller will be held Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Morgan Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, at 10 a.m., at Morgan Chapel with Bro. Bill Thomason officiating with assistance from Bro. Ken Siler. Burial will follow in Loughridge Cemetery near Colt, under the direction of Morgan Funeral Home.
Wanda Jean Phillips Sain
Mrs. Wanda Jean Phillips Sain, aged 48, of Forrest City, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, in an automobile accident.
Mrs. Sain was born May 30, 1953, in Forrest City, and was the daughter of Louis Phillips and Clemie Conner Phillips. She lived in St. Francis County most of her life, was an employee of Sanyo, and was a member of the Beck Spur Baptist Church.
She married John Henry Sain in 1991, and he survives her, along with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Phillips of Forrest City; two daughters, Laura Cummings French and Terri Jo Cummings, both of Forrest City; two sisters, Linda Elliott of Harrison and Brenda White of Forrest City; a stepson, John Clayton Sain of Clarendon; two stepdaughters, Stephanie Sain of Clarendon and Jade Renee Reynolds of McCrory; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. Services for Mrs. Sain will be held at the Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001, with burial following in Forrest Park Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Norah "Jack" Dawson
Mr. Norah "Jack" Dawson, age 91, of Forrest City, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.
Mr. Dawson, born Dec. 15, 1909 in Forrest City, was the son of Norah Dawson Sr. and Fruzzie Turner Dawson. He was an employee of Woodhouse Mortuary for 50 years where he served as a funeral attendant.
Mr. Dawson was preceded in death by his wife Annie Mae Parker Dawson and is survived by a sister, Mattie Fleming of Gary, Ind. and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation services for Mr. Dawson will be held Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the Chapel of Woodhouse Mortuary. Funeral services will be held, Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Summerfield M.B. Church with Rev. Willie Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Forrest City Cemetery under the direction of Woodhouse Mortuary.
Willie Lee Smith
Mr. Willie Lee Smith, age 67, of Earle, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, at Crittenden Memorial Hospital in West Memphis.
Mr. Smith was born Feb. 7, 1934, in Byhalia, Miss. and was a laborer.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Smith of Earle; six sons, Stanley Lee Smith of Memphis, Willie Lee Smith Jr., Elbert Smith, Freddie Smith, Charles Smith and Steve Smith, all of Earle; four daughters, Jewell Mucherson, Pearline Stevenson and Darlene Spencer, all of Earle and Susie Ann Smith of Blytheville; four brothers, John Lee Smith, George Smith and Eugene Smith Jr., all of Blackfish Lake and Willie B. Smith of Florida; five sisters, Callie Mae Smith, Cora Mae Smith, Gerlean Smith and Bobbie Mae Smith, all of Blytheville and Lillie B. Moore of East St. Louis, Ill.; and 30 grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be held Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001, at 12 p.m., at Friendship Baptist Church with burial following in Paradise Garden Cemetery under the direction of Clay Funeral Home.
Marshall Ford Fussell
Mr. Marshall Ford Fussell, age 75, of Forrest City, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Forrest City.
Mr. Fussell was born Jan. 17, 1926, in Forrest City and was the son of James V. Fussell and Mildred Ford Fussell. He was a salesman, a graduate of the University of Arkansas in 1948 and a Presbyterian.
Mr. Fussell is survived by a son, Marty Fussell of Little Rock; a daughter, Michelle Keller of Little Rock and a grandson.
Graveside funeral services for Mr. Fussell will be held Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001, at 2 p.m., at Forrest Park Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Elton Bernard Rogers
Mr. Elton Bernard Rogers, age 37, of Sherman Oak, Calif., died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at his home in California.
Mr. Rogers was born June 6, 1964, in Forrest City and was the son of Floyd Rogers of Forrest City and Mertha Bridges Williams of St. Louis, Mo. He was a Baptist.
Mr. Rogers is survived by his parents; a brother, Michael Rogers of Forrest City; five sisters, Pamela Rogers, Ella Rogers, Doris Rogers and Yoshilda Williams, all of St. Louis, Mo. and Leatha Cross of Forrest City; and a grandmother, Ideltra Beacham of Youngstown, Ohio.
Visitation for Mr. Rogers will be held Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001, at Brown Funeral Home. Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 25, at 11 a.m., at Stanley Grove Cemetery in Caldwell with Rev. Verlee Lucas officiating the service under the direction of Brown Funeral Home in Pine Bluff.
Matlena Jennings
Mrs. Matlena Jennings, age 80, of Forrest City, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001, at her home.
Mrs. Jennings was born Feb. 5, 1921, in Lee County. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Jennings is survived by her husband, John H. Jennings of Forrest City; one son, Wiggins Alexander, Jr., of West Memphis; two daughters, Kathleen Powell and Earnestine Jones, both of Hughes; one brother, William Robinson of Aubrey; one sister, Maria Vasser of Detroit, Mich.; 19 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; 24 great-great-grandchildren and five great-great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Jennings will be held Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, from 3 to 5 p.m., at Clay Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at 1 p.m., at Days Temple Church of God in Christ with elder Wiggins Alexander officiating the service. Burial will be conducted in Paradise Garden Cemetery on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, at 12 p.m., under the direction of Clay Funeral Home.
Patricia Ann Taylor Thornton
Mrs. Patricia Ann Taylor Thornton, age 37, of West Memphis, died of an apparent homicide, date and place unknown.
Mrs. Thornton was a homemaker and a Baptist. She is survived by her husband, David Thornton of West Memphis; one daughter, Cassie Joanne Cook of Forrest City; two sons, Brandon Cook and Zachary Cook, both of Forrest City; her mother, Bobbie Ann Taylor of Forrest City; one sister, Lisa Gail Gwathney of Harrisburg; and one grandparent, Inez Warren of Memphis.
Visitation for Mrs. Thornton will be held Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, from 6 to 9 p.m., at Roller-Citizen Funeral Home in West Memphis. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at 2 p.m., in the Chapel of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis with burial following in Forrest Park Cemetery in Forrest City, under the direction of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home.
Ann Marie Gambill
Ms. Ann Marie Gambill, age 37, of Greenbrier, died Friday, Oct. 26, 2001.
She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church at Bee Branch. She is survived by her parents, Rev. Gene and Arlyn Gambill, two sisters, Donna Clark of Mabelvale and Carol Haynes of Jonesboro, and a brother, Michael Gambill of Greenbrier.
The funeral was held Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001 at Bishop-Griffin Funeral Home in Greenbrier, with Rev. Jurl Mitchell and Rev. Gaylon King officiating. Burial followed at Thorn Cemetery in Greenbrier.
A. Norene Laws Robbins
Mrs. A. Norene Laws Robbins, age 85, died Saturday, October 27, 2001 at Crestpark Nursing Home in Wynne.
Mrs. Robbins was born March 30, 1916, in S. Francis County, and was the daughter of Robert L. Laws and Alva Mae Watson Laws. She lived in St. Francis and Cross counties all her life. She was a housewife and a member of the Wynne Church of God.
In 1931, she married Ernest D. Robbins, who preceded her in death in 1983.
She is survived by two sons, Delton Robbins of Petal, Miss. and Bobby Robbins of Elgin, Ill.; a daughter, Brenda Gann of Wynne; a sister, June Gahr of ; Wynne, eight grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. Services for Mrs. Robbins will be held graveside at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, at Hughes Cemetery in Forrest City. Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
