Mary E. Bohannon
Mrs. Mary E. Bohannon, age 78, of Forrest City, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Forrest City.
Mrs. Bohannon was born Aug. 7, 1923, in Forrest City and was a retired nurse.
Mrs. Bohannon is survived by two sons, Charles Washington of Sacramento, Calif. and Dennis Bohannon of Forrest City; four daughters, Valerie Jean Washington and Priscilla Haynes, both of Forrest City, Carolyn Rucker of Little Rock, and Gwendolyn Peeples of Dallas, Texas; 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Bohannon was held Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Funeral services for Mrs. Bohannon will be conducted Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at 10 a.m., at Rising Sun M.B. Church, with Rev. John Strong officiating the service. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery under the direction of Clay Funeral Home.
Steven Wayne Bryant
Mr. Steven Wayne Bryant, age 38, of Wynne, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, in Albuquerque, N.M.
Mr. Bryant was born Oct. 29, 1963, in Forrest City and was the son of Cleo and Mary Janice Bryant of Wynne. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Forrest City, and he was a roofer.
Mr. Bryant is survived by his parents; a daughter, Summer Young of Marianna; a son, Steven Bryant of Wynne; a sister, Debbie Vaughn of Wynne and two brothers, Larry Bryant of Marianna and Gary Bryant of Memphis.
Visitation for Mr. Bryant will be held Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Morgan Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mr. Bryant will be conducted on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at 2 p.m., at Morgan Funeral Home with Bro. Ken Walls officiating the service. Burial will follow at Hughes Cemetery under the direction of Morgan Funeral Home.
Bertha "Bo" French
Mrs. Bertha "Bo" French, age 90, of Goodwin, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, at Crestpark Nursing Home in Forrest City.
Mrs. French was born June 29, 1911, in Blackton, and was the daughter of Charles Pitts and Bessie Blankenship Pitts. She was a housewife and a member of the Goodwin Baptist Church.
Mrs. French married Everett French in 1940, and he preceded her in death in 1982.
She is survived by a brother, Elmer Pitts of West Memphis and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Mrs. French will be held Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, from 12:30 to 2 p.m., at Goodwin Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with burial following in Salem Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Mario Buchanan Jr.
Mario Buchanan Jr., age seven-months-old, of Forrest City, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at his home.
Buchanan, born June 25, 2001, was the son of Mario Buchanan Sr. and Terri F. Smith, both of Forrest City.
He is survived by his parents; a brother, Larry Williams of Forrest City and his grandparents, Lola and Albert Johnson, both of Forrest City.
Graveside services for Mario Buchanan Jr. will be held, Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at 12 p.m. at Shady Grove Cemetery in Blackfish with pastor Chester Rolfe officiating. Woodhouse Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Ruben Milton Matthew
Mr. Ruben Milton Matthew, age 64, of Forrest City, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at Crestpark Skilled Nursing Home.
Mr. Matthew was a carpenter.
He is survived by his wife, Florida Matthew; six daughters, Deborah Langeford of Little Rock, Gwendolyn Cannon of Memphis, Angela Matthew-Wills of Atlanta, Ga., Jacqulyn Belt, Shajuana Matthew and Veronica Matthew, all of Forrest City; two sons, Kenneth Matthew of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Andre Matthew of Memphis; a sister, Elmeter Crawford of Memphis; a brother, Eugene Matthew of Chicago, Ill.; 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Matthew will be held Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, from 12 to 5 p.m., at Kennedy Funeral Home, followed by a wake from 6 to 7 p.m., at Kennedy Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mr. Matthew will be Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at 11 a.m., at the Church of the Living God, with Pastor Mitchell Dedner officiating the service. Burial will follow in Paradise Gardens Cemetery in Edmondson under the direction of Kennedy Funeral Home.
Carl Chapman
Mr. Carl Chapman, age 67, of Little Rock, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, in Heber Springs.
Mr. Chapman was born Nov. 26, 1934 in Forrest City, and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Will Chapman of Forrest City.
He is survived by two sons, Phillip Chapman of Hensley and John Chapman of Little Rock; two daughters, Connie Null of Jacksonville and Debbie Weatherford of Bryant; two brothers, Ray Chapman of Forrest City and Bill Chapman of Oklahoma; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation for Mr. Chapman will be Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at Stevens Funeral Home. Graveside funeral services for Mr. Chapman will follow the same day at 1 p.m. at Hughes Cemetery in Forrest City, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Althema Griggs
Ms. Althema Griggs, age 62, of Forrest City, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at her home.
Ms. Griggs was born April 22, 1939, and was the daughter of Omega Griggs and Pearl Anderson Griggs. She was a retired teacher from the Forrest City Junior High School and was also a member of the Rising Sun Missionary Baptist Church in Forrest City.
Ms. Griggs is survived by her son, Reuben Griggs of Forrest City; an uncle, Bishop James Anderson of Nebraska; and one aunt, Edna Fryer of Nebraska.
Fuenral services for Ms. Griggs will be conducted on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at 1 p.m., at Morgan Funeral Home, with Bishop James Anderson officiating the service. Burial will follow in Forrest City Cemetery under the direction of Morgan Funeral Home.
Anna Beth Lewis
Mrs. Anna Beth Lewis, age 80, of Little Rock, formerly of Forrest City, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at the Baptist Hospital in Little Rock.
Mrs. Lewis was born March 14, 1921, in Fort Smtih. She was a retired school teacher and a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Lewis married J.D. Lewis in 1945, and he preceded her in death in 1999, along with one son, Jimmy Lewis in 2000.
She is survived by a son, Mike Lewis of Camden; and one granddaughter.
Funeral services for Mrs. Lewis will be conducted on Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at 2 p.m., at Stevens Funeral Home, with Rev. Rex Darling officiating the service. Burial will follow in Forrest Park Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
V.A. Pate
Mr. V.A. Pate, age 93, of Colt, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Cross Community Hospital in Wynne.
Mr. Pate was born Dec. 22, 1908 in Crenshaw, Miss. He was a retired rice farmer and a member of the Crossroads Original Church of God.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Bell Pate; and one son, Ruben Wesley Pate.
Mr. Pate is survived by one son, Jack Pate of Colt; three daughters, Maudie McKenzie, Nell Watlington and Emmaline Holland, all of Colt; two sisters, Rilda McCoy of St. Louis, Mo. and Mary Turnbow of Flint, Mich.; 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Pate will be held Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Kernodle Funeral Home in Wynne. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at 10 a.m., at Kernodle Funeral Home, with burial following in Hughes Cemetery in Forrest City, under the direction of Kernodle Funeral Home.
Anthony Logan
Mr. Anthony Logan, age 30, of Forrest City, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital East in Memphis.
Mr. Logan, born Oct. 29, 1971, in Forrest City, was the son of S.T. Logan and Evelyn Patton Logan, both of Forrest City. He is survived by his parents.
Visitation services for Mr. Logan will be held, Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Woodhouse Mortuary. Funeral services for Mr. Logan will be held Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Woodhouse Mortuary with Rev. John Strong officiating.
