Artie C. Versie
Mr. Artie C. Versie, age 79, of Widener, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at Baptist Hospital East in Memphis.
Mr. Versie was born on April 21, 1922, in Haynes, and was a retired farmer.
He is survived by three sons, Artie C. Versie Jr. of St. Louis, Mo., Johnnie C. Versie of Little Rock and Herbert Lee Versie of Aurora, Colo.; three daughters, Barbara Strong of Widener, Katherine Versie of Memphis and Belinda Buford of Bossier City, La.; one step-daughter, Bobbie Dickey of Houston, Texas; one step-son, Nehemiah Fells of Houston, Texas; one brother, Earnest Calvin of Milwaukee, Wisc.; a nd 14 grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Versie will be Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, from 6 to 7 p.m., at Clay Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mr. Versie will be conducted on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, at 2 p.m., at Spring Grove Baptist Church, with Rev. Cedric Coleman officiating the service. Burial will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery under the direction of Clay Funeral Home.
Theodis Alexander
Mr. Theodis Alexander, age 42, of Forrest City, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Forrest City.
Mr. Alexander, born Jan. 2, 1960, was the son of Elbert Alexander and Pearline Boyd. He is survived by his father, of Little Rock; his mother, of Forrest City; six brothers, Larry Smith Dwayne Alexander and Ricky Alexander, all of Forrest City, Theoplis Alexander and Bruce Alexander, both of Little Rock and Clyde Alexander of Chicago, Ill., and three sisters, Shirley Sinclair of Forrest City, Vickie Alexander of Cleveland, Ohio and Tony Alexander of Helena.
Funeral services for Mr. Alexander will be held Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at 10 a.m. at Willis Temple Church of God In Christ with Elder J.D. Alexander officiating. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery under the direction of Clay Funeral Home.
Robert Clarence "Demps" Bowens
Mr. Robert Clarence "Demps" Bowens, age 63, of Chicago, Ill., died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002.
Mr. Bowens, a retired clerk, was born Dec. 23, 1938, in Heth. He is survived by a son, Joel Bowens of Chicago, Ill.; two brothers, Fred Moore of Forrest City and Mack Bowens of St. Louis, Mo.; and seven sisters, Dorothy Young, Virginia Sutton, Edna Harrel and Carrie Fay Washington, all of Chicago, Ill., Henretta White of Madison, Wisc., Sharon Moore of Memphis and Francis Ursery of St. Louis, Mo.
Funeral services for Mr. Bowens will be held Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Days Temple Church of God In Christ with Elder John Henry Jennings officiating. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery under the direction of Clay Funeral Home.
Thomas G. Grobmyer
Mr. Thomas G. Grobmyer, age 48, of Forrest City, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at his home.
Mr. Grobmyer was born Dec. 20, 1953, in North Carolina, the son of W.P. "Bill" Grobmyer and Jo Ann Vernon Grobmyer.
Mr. Grobmyer is survived by two sons, Thomas Joshua Grobmyer of Missouri and Jeremy David Grobmyer of Forrest City; two daughters, Amy Renee Marcoux of Florida and Amanda Grobmyer of Forrest City; both his parents of Memphis; four brothers, W.P. Grobmyer Jr. of Forrest City, Stephen L. Grobmyer of Florida, David F. Grobmyer and James Mark Grobmyer, both of Missouri; one sister, Rebecca Corlew of Memphis and four grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Grobmyer were held graveside on Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Forrest Park Cemetery. Stevens Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
Thomas W. Wilkie Jr.
Mr. Thomas W. Wilkie Jr., age 102, of Forrest City, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at his home.
Mr. Wilkie was born Aug. 19, 1900, in Riverton, Ill., the son of Thomas William Wilkie and Florence Wilkerson Wilkie. He was a postman, a farmer and a member of the St. Francis County Farm Bureau. He was also a member of the Christian Church of Riverton, Ill.
Mr. Wilkie married Paulyne Vance in 1943, and she survives him along with a daughter, Van Paula Wilkie of Forrest City; two sons, Tony Wilkie and Bill Wilkie both of Forrest City; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Wilkie were held, graveside, Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at 3 p.m. at Forrest Park Cemetery with Rev. Larry Kelso officiating. Stevens Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
Marguerite Gordy Woods
Mrs. Marguerite Gordy Woods, age 87, of Memphis and formerly of Widener and Forrest City, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at the Memphis Jewish Home.
Mrs. Woods was born July 13, 1915, in St. Francis County, the daughter of William F. Gordy and Mollie Nichols Gordy.
Mrs. Woods was a native of the Newcastle community, a general mercantile owner and operator near the Widener and Round Pond communities, a lifelong Methodist and an active member of both the Round Pond and Forrest Chapel Methodist Churches.
Mrs. Woods is survived by a son, James Eugene Woods of Memphis; a sister, Ernestine Gordy Dooley of Germantown, Tenn.; and two grandsons, Peter Carr Woods of Washington D.C. and Taylor Woods of Charleston, S.C. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward "Pete" Woods.
Graveside services were held for Mrs. Woods on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002 at Loughridge Cemetery with Stevens Funeral Home in charge of all arrangements.
The family requests that memorials be made to either the Loughridge Cemetery Association at 723 St. Francis County Road 422, Forrest City, Ar. 72335, or the Memphis Jewish Home at 36 Bazeberry Rd., Cordova, Tenn. 38018.
Frances Ann Ellis
Mrs. Frances Ann Ellis, age 51, of Forrest City, died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, in Pine Bluff.
Mrs. Ellis, born May 27, 1951, was the daughter of Robert and Maxine Simmons Harris. She was a housewife and a Baptist.
Mrs. Ellis is survived by her husband, Gary Ellis of Forrest City; a daughter, Teresa Brown of Russellville; a brother, Robert Harris of Forrest City and a sister, Linda Barber of Forrest City.
Visitation for Mrs. Ellis will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 30, 2002 at the Morgan Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Gaylon Hendrix officiating. Burial will follow at Hughes Cemetery.
Judy Carol Martin
Mrs. Judy Carol Martin, age 51, of Heth, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at the University of Tennessee William F. Bowld Hospital in Memphis.
Mrs. Martin was a member of Gladden Baptist Church and a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald Ray Martin of Heth; a daughter, Lisa Morton of Heth; a son, Ronald B. Martin of Wynne; four sisters, Mary A. Melton of Parkin, Minnie E. Pittman of Bartlett, Tenn., Dorothy Grantham of Wynne and Jimmie Lou Loveless of Colt; two brothers, Bill May and Bob May, both of Parkin; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services for Mrs. Martin will be conducted on Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at 10 a.m., at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home, with burial following in the Crittenden Memorial Park Cemetery in Marion, under the direction of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home.
William Peyton Coats Sr.
Mr. William Peyton Coats Sr., age 78, of Judsonia, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at the White County Medical Center in Searcy.
Mr. Coats was born March 10, 1923, and was the son of H.L. Coats and Alma McAndrews Coats. He lived in St. Francis County most of his life and was a veteran of World War II.
Mr. Coats married Nola Jean Cole in 1945, and she survives him along with one son, William Peyton Coats Jr. of Judsonia; a brother, Loy H. Coats of Indianapolis, Ind. and two grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Coats will be Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Stevens Funeral Home. Graveside funeral services for Mr. Coats will be conducted Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Forrest Park Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Jerry Wayne Culver
Mr. Jerry Wayne Culver, age 53, of Forrest City, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Forrest City.
Mr. Culver was born Nov. 16, 1948, and was the son of Jessie Culver Sr. and Katherine Eaton Culver. He was a deputy jailer for the St. Francis County Sheriff's Department, and was a member of Beck Spur Baptist Church.
Mr. Culver is survived by his wife, Sherry Culver of the home and two brothers, Jessie Culver Jr. of California and Charles Culver of Forrest City.
Visitation for Mr. Culver will be Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Morgan Funeral Home. Graveside funeral services for Mr. Culver will be conducted on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at 11 a.m., at Hughes Cemetery, with Bro. Wes Beaver officiating the service. Morgan Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mary Hardrick
Mrs. Mary Hardrick, age 70, of Forrest City, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Crestpark Retirement Inn in Forrest City.
Mrs. Hardrick was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Lloyd C. Hardrick and two sisters, Jenette Johnson Wilburn and Arlean Dunlap, both of Camden, N.J.
Visitation for Mrs. Hardwick will be held Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Kennedy Funeral Home.
