William Merle Cox
Mr. Williams Merle Cox, age 86, of Heber Springs, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at Central Arkansas Hospital in Searcy.
Mr. Cox, the son of Elliot Cox and Angeline Adkinson Cox, was born, July 26, 1915 in Hoxie. He was a retired farmer and a Baptist by faith.
Mr. Cox, was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Melba Winters Cox, in 1976. He is survived by three sons, Jerry Cox of Searcy, Larry Cox and Donald Cox, both of Heber Springs; two daughters, Susan Fulton of Checotah, Okla. and Ann Stewart of Forrest City; a sister, Wanda Hamilton of Wynne; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation services for Mr. Cox will be held Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Olmstead Funeral Home in Heber Springs. Funeral services for Mr. Cox will be held Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at 4 p.m. in the Chapel of Olmstead Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Cleburne County Memorial Gardens at Heber Springs.
Iva A. Turley
Mr. Iva A. Turley, age 79, of Moro, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at his home.
Mr. Turley was born Aug. 6, 1922, in Pangburn, and was the son of Andrew Jackson Turley and Flora B. Poole Turley. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion in Marianna. Mr. Turley, a carpenter by trade, was a member of Moro Baptist Church, where he had been a Sunday School superintendent for four years. He lived in Moro for 60 years.
Mr. Turley is survived by his wife, Mildred Turley of the home; a son, Larry G. Turley of Searcy; two daughters, Linda E. Jones of Forrest City and Shirley K. Fowler of Moro; a brother, Gaylon Turley of Cabot; a sister, Edna Burns of Moro; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Turley will be Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Fowler Funeral Home in Brinkley. Funeral services for Mr. Turley will be conducted on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at 2 p.m., at the Moro Baptist Church, with Bro. Bill Elliott officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Moro with Fowler Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
The family request memorials be made to the Moro Baptist Church.
Rev. Robert Lee Franklin
Rev. Robert Lee Franklin, age 83, of Memphis, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, at Methodist South Hospital in Memphis.
Rev. Franklin was a laborer at Memphis Transit Authority.
He is survived by his wife, Mable Franklin of Memphis; three daughters, Marcie Jones, Lakisha Franklin and Ursula Lewis, all of Memphis; five sons, Sammy Franklin, Borris Reed, Jarvis Franklin, Robert Earle Franklin and Terrance Franklin, all of Memphis; and 12 grandchildren.
Funeral services for Rev. Franklin will be held Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at 12:30 p.m., at Riverside M.B. Church in Widener. Burial will follow in West Tennessee Veteran Cemetery in Memphis under the direction of Gillespie Funeral Home.
Estellar Fryer
Mrs. Estellar Fryer, age 88, of Colt, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Forrest City.
Mrs. Fryer was born Aug. 15, 1913, in Marianna, and was a retired farmer.
She is survived by six sons, Samuel Fryer Jr. of Benton Harbor, Mich., Morris C. Fryer of Kileen, Texas, William C. Fryer and Allen C. Fryer Sr., both of Decatur, Ill., Theatrice Fryer of Forrest City and Conery Fryer of Colt; two daughters, Alice M. Emmanuel of Moreno Valley, Calif. and Annette Woods of Colt; three step-sons, Cletus Fryer of Decatur, Ill, and Ted Fryer and Ottie Fryer, both of St. Louis, Mo.; one step-daughter, Wezzie B. McDaniel of Wynne; and 42 grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Fryer will be held Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Clay Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mrs. Fryer will be conducted on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at 10 a.m., at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, with Rev. Connie Moore officiating the service. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery in Colt under the direction of Clay Funeral Home.
Voltaurus Marquis Parchman
Mr. Voltaurus Marquis Parchman, age 22, of Forrest City, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2001, at his home.
Mr. Parchman was born April 19, 1979, in Memphis, and was a store manager.
He is survived by his father, George Rooks of Forrest City; his mother, Alice Fay Parchman of Forrest City; one daughter, Briana Parchman of Forrest City; two brothers, Fredrick Williams of Dallas, Texas and Tony Austin of Forrest City; two sisters, Shaneka Parchman and Dominique Parchman, both of Forrest City; and his fiancee, Felicia Hunt of Forrest City.
The family requests no visitation for Mr. Parchman. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at 2 p.m., at Rising Sun Missionary Baptist Church, with Rev. John Strong officiating the service. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery under the direction of Clay Funeral Home.
Nina Mae Mathes Cooney
Mrs. Nina Mae Mathes Cooney, age 78, of Ash Flat, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.
Mrs. Cooney was born July 27, 1923, in Mountain View, and was the daughter of Herman and Liza Edding Mathes. She was a retired certified nurse's aid for Crest Park Nursing Home in Forrest City and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Evening Shade.
Mrs. Cooney was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene Harris Cooney; on infant son; one daughter, Florence Bell Cooney; two brothers, Claude Mathes and Marvin Mathes; and one grandson, Thomas Eugene Cooney.
She is survived by one son, Tom Cooney of Poughkeepsie; two daughters, Mary Louise Babitsch of Ash Flat and Dorothy Mae Peterson of Evening Shade; two brothers, Melvin Mathes of Cherokee Village and Norman Mathes of West Memphis; two sisters, Elizabeth Watts of Wynne and Flo Luker of Cherokee Village; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Cooney will be Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City. Funeral services will be conducted for Mrs. Mathes on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at 2 p.m., at Calvary Baptist Church at Evening Shade, with Bro. Carl Higgs officiating the service. Burial will follow in the Cooney Cemetery near Williford under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.
Charles Curtis "Tiger" Powell
Mr. Charles Curtis "Tiger" Powell, age 31, of Drummonds, Tenn., died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at the Med in Memphis.
Mr. Powell was an RVAC for Methodist Hospital Central in Memphis and was a member of Central Baptist Church in Brighton, Tenn.
He is survived by his wife, Lea Powell of the home; two sons, Cole Powell and Austin Powell, both of Drummonds, Tenn.; his mother and step-father, Becky Middleton and Eddie Middleton, both of Atoka, Tenn.; his father and step-mother, Frank Powell and Annie Powell, both of Moro; one sister, Rebecca Middleton of Atoka, Tenn.; one brother, Thomas Powell of Millington, Tenn.; five step-sisters, Connie Ostrander and Ruth Wheat, both of Atoka, Tenn., April Jones, Cheyanne Cassidy and Destiny Powell, all of Moro; two step-brothers, David Middleton of Middleton, Tenn. and Joey Parsons of Hughes.
Funeral services for Mr. Powell will be conducted on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at 10 a.m., at Munford Funeral Home Millington Chapel, with burial following in Poplar Grove Cemetery in Drummonds, Tenn., under the direction of Munford Funeral Home Millington Chapel.

Minnie "Pearl" Roberts
Mrs. Minnie "Pearl" Roberts, age 94, of Moro, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at her home.
Mrs. Roberts was born Nov. 30, 1907, and was the daughter of J.S. Hardin and Ada Nesbitt Hardin. She was a housewife and a member of the Moro Pentecostal Church.
Mrs. Roberts was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Roberts in 1976; and one son, Richard "Dickie" Roberts in 1994.
She is survived by four sons, Danny Roberts and G.C. Roberts, both of Moro, Russell Roberts of Portland, Ore., and Ray Roberts of Marianna; four daughters, Linda Traylor of Marianna, Minnie Burroughs and Bessie Mobley, both of Eugene, Ore., and Christine Rutledge of Marianna; three sisters, Eldene Taylor of Brinkley, Jessie Thornsberry of California and Lydia Barnhardt of Florida; 26 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Roberts will be Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Morgan Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mrs. Roberts will be conducted Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at 3 p.m., at Moro Pentecostal Church, with Bro. Rick Needham officiating the service. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Marianna under the direction of Morgan Funeral Home.
Charles Franklin Anderson
Mr. Charles Franklin Anderson, age 53, of Greece, N.Y., died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, N.Y.
Mr. Anderson was a maintenance supervisor and a member of Emmanual Temple Church in Rochester, N.Y.
He is survived by his mother, JoAnn Anderson of Colt; a son, Chucky Anderson of Rochester, N.Y.; a daughter, Tanya DeLancey of Rochester, N.Y.; six sisters, Betty Bolden of Memphis, Della Newborn and Jennette Washington, both of Colt, Ocie Rivers of Rochester, N.Y., Velma Anderson Randle of San Mateo, Calif. and Leola Lucas of Rockford, Ill.; five brothers, Otha Anderson of Leigh High Acres, Fla., Jesse Anderson of DeLand, Fla., A.C. Anderson of Chicago, Ill. and John Anderson and Claude Boyd, both of Memphis and two grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Anderson will be Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Johnson Funeral Home in Wynne. Funeral services will be conducted for Mr. Anderson on Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at 1 p.m., at Pine Tree Church of God in Christ in Colt, with Rev. Leon Sims Jr. officiating the service. Burial will follow in Stanley Grove Cemetery in Colt under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Wynne.
Casey P. "Mutt" Hubbard
Mr. Casey P. "Mutt" Hubbard, age 87, of Forrest City, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at Crestpark Retirement Inn in Forrest City.
Mr. Hubbard, born Dec. 19, 1914, in Forrest City, was the son of Matt Hubbard and Sally Myers Hubbard. He lived in the Forrest City area for most of his life. Mr. Hubbard was a World War II veteran and a member of Good Hope Baptist Church. He was also a retired employee of the Arkansas State Highway Department.
In 1948 Mr. Hubbard married Florence Billingsley and she preceded him in death in 1979. He is survived by a stepson; several step-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services for Mr. Hubbard will be held Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Hughes Cemetery. Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
