Avis Ellene Williams Johnson
Mrs. Avis Ellene Williams Johnson, age 77, of Shirley, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002.
Mrs. Johnson was born Aug. 9, 1924, the daughter of Shirley Williams, and is survived by a son, Jimmy Johnson; threee daughters, Louise Borden, Shirley Newman and Barbara Bass; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Johnson were held Wednesday Feb. 27, 2002, in the Chapel of Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Clinton. Burial followed in Weaver Cemetery in Shirley, under the direction of Roller-McNutt Funeral Home of Clinton.

Robert Goad
Robert Goad, 56, formerly of Forrest City, died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at his home in Tyler, Texas. He was a 1965 graduate of Forrest City High School and lived in the Forrest City area until 1969. He was recently retired from the Tyler school system. He was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Dell Goad of Forrest City and by his wife, Reba Goad, also of Tyler.
Survivors include three children, Robbin Goad Nicholas, Clay Goad and Allen Goad, all of Whitehouse, Texas; a sister, Paulette Goad Kelly of Memphis and two grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete, but are under the direction of the Lloyd James Funeral Home in Tyler, Texas.

Alfred Glenn Melson
Alfred Glenn Melson, 46, of Rixeyville, Va., died Thrusday, Feb. 28, 2002.
He was born May 10, 1955, in Alexandria, Va., the son of Albert Lee Melson and Jessie Lee Locklear Melson. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
He was preceded in death by his father.
In addition to his mother, survivors include a former wife, Lois Fay Holden; one son, Ivan Glenn Melson of Culpeper, Va.; a daughter, Rebecca Anne Melson of Albuquerque, N.M.; three sisters, Juanita Woodward of Culpeper, Va., Cheryl Ann Haga of Manassas, Va., and Colleen Roseberry of Culpeper Va., and two brothers, Ronald Kenneth Melson and Albert Lee Melson, both of Boston, Va.; one grandson and a host of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, March 7, 2002, at 2 p.m. at the Laughridge Cemetery. Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper, Va., is in charge of the arrangements.

Otis Lee Davis Sr.
Mr. Otis Lee Davis Sr., age 91, of Colt, died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at his home.
He was born Nov. 3, 1910, a son of Andrew and Aremenda Rice Davis. He was a farmer and a Protestant.
Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Agnes Frost Davis in 1985, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Surivors include five sons, Robert Davis of Jacksonville, Scott Davis of Colt, Otis Davis Jr., of Beebe and John and David Davis of North Little Rock; six daughters, Allene Boles Laws and Ruby Colvin of Forrest City, Fern Smith Giudice of Arizona, Martha Myers of Wynne, Dorothy Baskins of Colt and Rachel Davis of Baton Rouge, La.; 35 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 7, 2002, from 6-8 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Home of Forrest City. Funeral services for Mr. Davis will be Friday, March 8, 2002, at the Morgan Chapel. Burial will follow at Forrest Park Cemetery, under the direction of Morgan Funeral Home.

Willie Mae Ison
Mrs. Willie Mae Ison, 64, of West Memphis, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at the home of her daughter in West Memphis.
Mrs. Ison leaves her husband, Tommie Earl Ison Sr. of West Memphis; two daughters, Virginia Green of West Memphis and Earlene Moore of St. Louis; eight sisters, Tealor Blaxton of Seffner, Fla., Marie Mull of Chicago, Joretha Howard, Juanita Edwards and Maxcine Artis of West Memphis, Mattie Noble, Flossie King and Lossie Lipscomb of Forrest City; two brothers, Calvin Jimmerson of Forrest City and T.J. Jimmerson of West Memphis, 12, grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 8, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Anthony-West Memphis Funeral Home Chapel North, and Saturday, March 9, 2002, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the 15th Street Church of God in Christ of West Memphis. Funeral Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church, with Burial in Paradise Garden.

Sylvester Jackson Sr.
Mr. Sylvester Jackson Sr., age 79, of Heth, died Sunday, March 3, 2002, at his home.
Mr. Jackson leaves a daugher, Rheamonia Glenn of Earle; four sons, Thaddis E. Jackson, Sylvester Jackson Jr., and Clifford Jackson of Heth and Richard Jackson of Earle; a sister, Tommie Hamilton of St. Louis; 23 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 9, 2002 at 11 a.m. at Friendship M.B. Church of Heth, with burial in Jackson Cemetery in Heth, under the direction of Anthony Funeral Home, West Memphis.

Charles Franklin Lee
Mr. Charles Franklin Lee, age 81, of Forrest City, died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at his residence.
He was a World War II Navy veteran, a member of University Christian Church in Memphis, and a field technician for Burroughs. He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Lee, and two sons, Barney Lee of Memphis and David Lee of Collierville, Tenn.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Lee will be held Friday, March 8, 2002 at 10 a.m., at Forest Hills East Funeral Home, with burial following in Forest Hills Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.

Maggie Verser
Mrs. Maggie Verser, age 90, of Blytheville, died Wednesday, March 6, 2002 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Blytheville.
She was born Feb. 12, 1912, to Charlie and Missouri Parks in Oklahoma City, Okla. She was a homemaker and a member of the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church of Blytheville.
Mrs. Verser was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Green Verser.
She is survived by three sons, Robert Lee Verser of Florida, Nathaniel Verser of Forrest City and Johnny B. Verser of Kokomo, Ind.; four daughters, Urlee Coleman of Madison, Mary Lee Gaston of Blytheville, Zeopha Phillip of Widener and Annie B. Thomas of St. Louis; a sister, Ada Jackson of Pine Bluff; and a host of great and great-great grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Verser will be held Friday, March 8, 2002 from 6-8 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Blytheville. Funeral services for Mrs. Verser will be held Saturday, March 9, 2002 at 2 p.m. at the St. Paul Misionary Baptist Church of Blytheville, with Rev. Horace Howard officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens in Blytheville, under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home.

Bobbie Cleo Parker
Mrs. Bobbie Cleo Parker, age 79, of Palestine, died Saturday, March 16, at the Baptist East Hospital in Memphis. She had been in poor health for the past several years.
Mrs. Parker was born Sept. 17, 1922, in Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Jeb Andrew Watkins and Emma Miller Watkins. She lived in Palestine most of her life, was a past employee of Reltoc Manufacturing, and was a member of the Palestine Church of Christ.
Mrs. Parker married Jack C. Parker in 1959, and he survives her along with one son, Charles Lobban of Pasadena, Texas; two daughters, Sandra Pruett of Gadson, Ala., and Barbara Ann Dodson of Houston, Texas; one sister, Marie Hendrick of Little Rock; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home.
Funeral services for Mrs. Parker will be held at the Palestine Church of Christ at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2002, with burial in Bell Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Henry F. Allen Jr.
Mr. Henry F. Allen Jr., age 70, of Forrest City, died Thursday, March 14, 2002, at his home.
Mr. Allen, born June 6, 1931, in Cross County, was the son of Henry Allen Sr. and Agnes Lunsford Allen. He lived in the Widener area for most of his life and served as mayor of Widener for 18 years. He was a veteran of the Korean War and a member of Widener Baptist Church.
In 1952 Mr. Allen married Lavinia Dickerson and she survives him along with a son, Wayne Allen of Forrest City; two daughters, Judy Sweet of Forrest City and Phyllis Tatum of Hickory Flat, Miss.; three brothers, Tobe Allen, of Nebraska, and Bruce Allen and Stanley Allen, both of Pascagoula, Miss.; two sisters, Paula Stallings of Arizona and Sue Weatherford of Pascagoula, Miss.; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Agnes Lynn Allen, in 1959.
Funeral services for Mr. Allen will be held graveside, Friday, March 15, 2002, at 3 p.m. in Widener Cemetery. Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Queen Esther Davis
Mrs. Queen Esther Davis, age 63, of Forrest City, died Friday, March 8, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.
Mrs. Davis, born Jan. 19, 1939, in Biscoe, was a retired cook from the Chicago School District.
Mrs. Davis is survived by her husband, Eddie Davis, of Chicago, Ill.; two sons, David Ticey Jr. and Towalo Johnson, both of Chicago, Ill.; five daughters, LaVerne Williamson, Duanita Holloway and Sherry Johnson, all of Forrest City, and Tina Johnson and Lynda Johnson, both of Chicago, Ill.; a brother, Charles Haynes of Forrest City; a sister, Earnestine Hoskins of Chicago, Ill.; a stepson, Prophet Lee of West Memphis; 40 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation services for Mrs. Davis will be held, Friday, March 15, 2002, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the chapel of Clay Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held, Saturday, March 16, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Christian Redeeming Spiritual Church No. 1, with Rev. Therother Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery under the direction of Clay Funeral Home.
