Jeremy Don Huckaba
Mr. Jeremy Don Huckaba, 29, of Palestine, died on Tuesday, May 7, 2002, in Palestine.
Mr. Huckaba was born on Nov. 8, 1972, in Forrest City, the son of Donald Lee Huckaba and Frankie Young Huckaba. He lived most of his life in Palestine and was a truck repairman.
Mr. Huckaba is survived by both his parents, a brother, Jason Huckaba of Palestine; a sister, Misty Huckaba Paine of Palestine; his paternal grandmother, Frances Huckaba of Palestine and his maternal grandmother, Virgina Young of Palestine.
Visitation for Mr. Huckaba will be held tonight, May 8, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home in Forrest City. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2002, at 2 p.m.., at Stevens Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Bell Cemetery.
Fair Dean Ward
Mrs. Fair Dean Ward, 82, of Marianna, died Monday, May 6, 2002, in Forrest City.
Mrs. Ward was born June, 11, 1919, in White Hall to J. Harper Lilies and Sofia Chandler Lilies. She was preceded in death by both her parents and her late husbands Jeff Clark and Hal G. Ward, and one son, William Clark.
Mrs. Ward was a homemaker and a member of the First Christian Church.
She is survived by her two sons Herbert J. Clark of Fitzgerald, Ga., and Harold A. Clark of Jonesboro; a daughter Caroline Ward Free of Bentonville; three brothers, J.T. Lilies, Jessie Lilies and John Lilies all of Indiana; five sisters Estine Ennis, Faye Ellen Walls and Frances Lilies all of Indiana, Clara Mae of Hooandsworth, Tenn., Irene Brewer of Forrest City; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Ward will be held Wednesday, May 8, 2002 at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in Marianna from 5 to 9 p.m.. Funeral services will be held at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home Chapel in Marianna at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2002, with burial in Marianna Memorial Park to follow, with Rev. Randy Hall officiating.
The family requests that memorials be made to the American Heart Assocation and the First Christian Church of Marianna.
Henry C. Chism
Mr. Henry C. Chism, age 80, of Forrest City, died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Forrest City.
Mr. Chism, born Jan. 11, 1922, in Earle, was the son of Henard Chism and Nancy Bailey Chism. He lived in St. Francis County for most of his life and was a retired welding instructor with Crowley's Ridge Technical Institute. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War and was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.
In 1980 Mr. Chism married Peggy Cupp and she survives him along with a daughter, Tracey Fortenberry of Paris; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation services for Mr. Chism will be held Friday, May 10, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mr. Chism will be held Saturday, May 11, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Forrest Park Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Tyrone E. Dent
Mr. Tyrone E. Dent, age 28, of Forrest City, died Sunday, May 5, 2002, at University Hospital in Little Rock.
Mr. Dent, born June 18, 1973, in Forrest City, was the son of Jack Anderson and Grace Dent. He is survived by his parents; four sisters, Paula Parks of Forrest City, Yceychie Anderson and Ida Fields, both of Stockton, Calif., and Jackie Reed of Kansas City, Mo. and a grandmother, Ophelia Davenport of Forrest City.
Visitation services for Mr. Dent will be held Friday, May 10, 2002, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Woodhouse Mortuary. Funeral services for Mr. Dent will be held Saturday, May 11, 2002, at 1 p.m. at Redeeming Christian Spiritual Church with Pastor Therother Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Forrest City Cemetery under the direction of Woodhouse Mortuary.
Hattie Harris Hillard
Mrs. Hattie Harris Hillard, age 89, of Forrest City, died Sunday, May 5, 2002, at St. Bernard Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.
Mrs. Hillard, born Aug. 10, 1912, in Widener, was the daughter of Williams and Luiza Harris. She is survived by her husband Bennie Hillard Sr. of Forrest City; four daughters, Hattie Bekley, Louise McKinnely, Ettie McMorris and Vernel Williams, all of Forrest City; six sons, Theodis Hillard, Leo Hillard, Elmo Hillard, Jimmy Hillard, Bennie Hillard, all of Forrest City and Robert Hillard of Rockford, Ill.; 42 grandchildren; 86 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation services for Mrs. Hillard will be held, Saturday, May 11, 2002, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Woodhouse Mortuary. Funeral services for Mrs. Hillard will be held Sunday, May 12, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Union Grove M.B. Church with Rev. Charles Latham officiating. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery.
Perry Thomas Jones
Mr. Perry Thomas Jones, age 54, of Jonesboro, died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at his home.
Mr. Jones, born Dec. 7, 1947, in Wynne, was the son of Vernie Jones and Vina Lee Grant Jones. He was a resident of Forrest City, prior to moving to Batesville and was a member of the Moose Lodge. He was a backhoe operator for many years and served as a district supervisor for Klaasmeyer Construction Company of Conway for over 15 years before his retirement.
Mr. Jones is survived by two sons, Tommy Jones and Michael Alexander, both of Jonesboro; three daughters, Patty Cox and Becky Jones, both of Jonesboro and Lisa Sharp of Harrisburg; a sister, Lori Hughes of Hardy; a brother Ricky Jones of Flint, Mich., and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Marvin Wayne Jones.
Visitation services for Mr. Jones will be held Thursday, May 9, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Chapel of Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home in Wynne. Funeral services for Mr. Jones will be held Friday, May 10, 2002 in the Chapel of Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home in Wynne with Rev. Alvin Swan officiating. Burial will follow in Crosslawn Cemetery in Wynne under the direction of Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home.
Carrie Hamilton McLaren
Mrs. Carrie Hamilton McLaren, age 96, of Memphis, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002.
Mrs. McLaren, formerly of Forrest City, was born July 27, 1905, in the Newcastle Community. She was the daughter of Dewitt Hamilton and Bertha May Waldrip Hamiton and had made her home in Forrest City for all of her life where she was a bookkeeper and a member of the First United Methodist Church.
In 1931 Mrs. McLaren married George McLaren and he preceded her in death in 1938. She is survived by a daughter, Sandra McLaren Wiese of Cordova, Tenn.; a brother, Luther Hamilton of Forrest City; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. McLaren will be held graveside, Friday, May 10, 2002, at Forrest Park Cemetery with Rev. Rex Darling officiating. Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Knox Kinney
Mr. Knox Kinney, age 78, of Forrest City, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis.
Mr. Kinney was born July 22, 1924, in Memphis, the son of Kenneth Hayes Kinney and Ruby Lucille Baird Kinney. He resided in St. Francis County for all of his life, with the exception of three years of service in World War II. He attended Forrest City public schools and graduated in May, 1942, from Columbia Military Academy in Columbia, Tenn.
Mr. Kinney began undergraduate studies at the Citadel in September of 1942, and then volunteered that December for service in the U.S. Army. He served for three years in the 14th Armored Division under General Patton and General Smith. He was awarded two bronze stars for his service in combat. Following his honorable discharge and service in the reserves, with the commission of Lieutenant, he went back to school and received a bachelor of science degree in Business Administration and a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the Vanderbilt Law School in 1949.
Mr. Kinney was licensed to practice law in both Arkansas and Tennessee, beginning his career at Snowden, Davis, Brown, McCloy and Donelson law firm in Memphis. He returned to Forrest City in 1950 to set up his own law practice. He was elected to the Arkansas Legislature in July of 1950, and served four terms. He retired from the legislature without opposition to meet the demands of his practice.
In addition to serving as Forrest City City Attorney for 32 years, Mr. Kinney was named Young Man of the Year by the Arkansas Jaycees in 1956 and served as president of the St. Francis County Bar Association. He was also a member of the Forrest City Rotary Club and the Forrest City Chamber of Commerce. He was a Gideon; a life member of the VFW; and served as past chairman of the Forrest City Planning Commission.
He also was a member of the Arkansas and American Bar Associations; the Arkansas Trial Lawyers Association; the Association of Trail Lawyers of America, the House of Delegates of the Arkansas Bar Association and First Baptist Church.
Mr. Kinney is survived by his wife, Patsy Patrick Kinney of the home; a son, Baird Kinney of Forrest City; a daughter, June Kinney Belew of Memphis; a brother, Clarke Kinney of Little Rock; and one grandchild.
Funeral services for Mr. Kinney were held on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, at First Baptist Church. Burial followed in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Stevens Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
The family requests that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church or to the Gideons International.
Margurite Perry Smith
Mrs. Margurite Perry Smith, age 84, of Forrest City, died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, at Crestpark Retirement Inn in Forrest City.
Mrs. Smith was born Sept. 5, 1918, in Water Valley, Miss, the daughter of Wattie Thomas Perry and Ester George Perry. She was a retired nursing home aide, a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Palestine.
Mrs. Smith is survived by two sons, Watty Noble Smith of Etowah, Tenn., Donald Smith of Caldwell; one daughter, Joann Gracey of Forrest City; two brothers, Aaron Perry of Palestine and Charles Perry of Tennessee; three sisters, Catherine Shipley of Forrest City, Elizabeth McCafferty of Biloxi, Miss., and Frankie Ann Perry of Marion; nine grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren.
Visitation services for Mrs. Smith will be held on Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Morgan Funeral Home with Bro. W.L. Prentiss officiating. Burial will follow in Bell Cemetery in Palestine.
Dorothy Lee Snelson
Mrs. Dorothy Lee Snelson, age 68, of Colt, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at her home.
Mrs. Snelson, born June 24, 1934, in Memphis, was the daughter of William Woody and Liddie Davis McCoy. She was retired from General Industries and a member of the Old Time Pentecostal Church in Widener.
Mrs. Snelson is survived by her husband, Leroy Snelson of Colt; one son, Kenny Mayfield of West Memphis; two daughters, Stephanie Thomas of Crawfordsville and Amanda Deese of Marion; one brother, William "Bill" McCoy of Parkin; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Snelson will be held Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Morgan Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Hughes Cemetery with Bro. Vance Jumper officiating, assisted by Bro.
